HELP PLZ

Um. Guys. I have a major problem here.

Right, so I didn't really download anything -- it downloaded itself. That's not the point, though. The point is, I'M FUCKED.

Here's the story. I work as a hostess/waitress at a restaurant, and usually when it's slow, I use the internet on one of the two computers at the front to check my LJ, Facebook, and email. I've been doing this for a few weeks now, and my boss is fine with it. The problem is, while I was scrolling through my f-list today, a warning message popped up telling me that there was some kind of porn spyware on my computer and that I would have to remove it by clicking "OK". I panicked and closed the message/browser window. Sure enough, there were three new icons on the desktop: Uncensored Porn, BDSM, and Child Porn. No matter how many times I deleted them, they just reappeared a few seconds later.

After that, the warning messages kept popping up from a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in my desktop tray. This probably makes me sound like the biggest idiot in the world, but at first I thought they were genuine, so I clicked OK. It took me to some site (I think it was something like spywarescannersite.com) that started "scanning" my system for spyware. I closed the window immediately, but the messages (and occasionally a porn website pop-up) kept appearing on the screen. As you can imagine, that was an issue, since anyone leaving the restaurant would have seen the screen from behind me. (I ended up leaving one of the warning messages minimized, which for some reason stopped all the pop-ups.)

I... don't know what to do. I did a shitload of research and came up with nothing. The spyware doesn't look like XP Antivirus. I do vaguely recall it mentioning XP Scanner or something like that, but I have no idea what that is. The operating system, btw, is Windows XP and I was using IE. I checked Add/Remove Programs, and there were only a few programs listed, all of which I recognised.

Can anyone help me figure out which spyware/malware/virus/whatever this is? I don't know shit about computers, as you can probably tell. Oh, and for the record, my boss knows, lol. She didn't get angry, since it wasn't my fault (honestly, where did the spyware even come from?), but obviously she wants it fixed, too.

Off to go watch Thursday's episode of SYTYCD now. Still don't know who got into the top 20, but I heard Cooper and Brandon didn't. Fuck that shit.

found your problem.

Now the guy never did what they asked, so there's no chain of "what happened."

Here's what I recommend. Join the site, create your own message just like that guy's, explaining the problem. Run the program suggested in that initial thread, and have your results file ready to post in response. Basically, in the G2G forum, they help individuals solve infection problems. They've helped me before!

Good luck! (and maybe troll around the G2G forum for better answers -- I have to dash and only had time to look up that one thing!)
