OK, not so 'work safe' ...not that you should be reading LJ at work anyway ...

Stuff Mr X gets up to when not taking pics of young ladies in clubs/bars etc.

I went to the O2 On Sunday for Foo Fighters. I am so wishing I'd seen them before, somewhere smaller! The Millennium Dome was something of a let down, especially for a gig on a Sunday night. It's bloody huge and 20,000 people all squeezing through the main door just doesn't work. Neither does having to walk right the way round the outside (inside) of the arena to get to block 'H' *scream*. On the way out it took 20 mins to walk from my seat to the front door. The tube couldn't cope and even though we weren't the last out or the last on the tube, we had to run @ London Bridge to catch the last Northern Line tube to Kings Cross. Other people weren't so lucky ...and of course, they didn't have such an easy route home as Mr X did to Hornsey... Oh, the Foo Fighters were most excellent ;-)

I also saw Stardust at the weekend. After reading some LJ reviews and listening to Jonathon Ross putting Ms Danes down, I wasn't expecting that much from the film. Well, what a gem of a film it turned out to be! I've not enjoyed a film in a Cinema as much in years! Far more entertaining than Harry Potter, special effects more convincing than Spiderman, excellent acting and Claire Danes looking all glowie and star-like ... It's funny but the only thing I know Claire Danes from is My So Called life, where she is always frowning, and then 13 years later, in the first scenes in Stardust she's still frowning!

£220 bargain DSLR's, but that's not the final price

I sold a camera this week; a Canon 350D with warranty for £220. I bought my first DSLR for £2,000 five years ago. Back then, few people had one and I felt kinda special. Now everyone and their mother has one, well my Mother has one (and my Dad too). It been quite an exciting year camera wise. Prices keep coming down, especially with Pentax DSLRs hovering around the £300 mark and the new Canon 400D around £365. The problem is, there is a catch. The bait are the stunning photos people post on the WWW. So, all you need is a DSLR and you'll get the same. Alas it's not as simple as that. Firstly, the camera may be cheap, but the lenses aren't. Even inexpensive lenses cost a lot. A simple Sigma 24-70 f2.8 is around the £280 mark. It's about the minimum you'll need to get a chance of decent gig photos. A simple portrait lens is £250 for a 85 f1.8, and so the list goes on.

Anyway, back to cameras. Nikon is about to launch their D3, which is their first 35mm DSLR. It's the camera every Nikon fan has been waiting for. The D300 will also be along soon, which will be an improved D200. Canon's 1Ds mkIII will be along before Christmas, providing 21MP images. This is rather nice, as it allows pretty detailed poster size prints to be made. I have a number of 30x20 inch prints on my wall at home and they could all do with a little more resolution. Anyway, the camera I can (nearly) afford is the 40D. I've had my 20D for a while and if there is one thing I'd like to improve its the Auto-Focus. The AF in the 40D is all new and improved. I'm hoping this will make taking photos in clubs that much easier...
