My strange week [18 Oct 2007|09:27pm]
This week I visited Edinburgh for a wedding and saw many folk I have not seen in years.
I took part in a reality TV show which has been on every morning.
I coped with my workload comfortably for the first time ever.
Kevin and I bought a house (it's boring, suburban, tiny and BEAUTIFUL).

Big week. However, none of it compared to my brother returning from Afghanistan. Today I recieved a text saying he was on a beach in Cyprus (they army call it decompression. You cannot send a bunch of fighting men straight back to their families).

You know those noises you do not realise are there until they stop? For the last 7 months I have been wound up so tight. It was not just fear he would die (around 1 in 36 of them have though, Bloody hell), it was fear of injury. Many of them have suffered terrible injuries.
I am Roo's next of kin and would have had to tell our family if something had happened to him.

Everytime the news reported injuries or fatalities, my whole family has sat awake waiting for my phone to ring. It has been really tough. Now it's over and I have spent the whole day feeling like sobbing with relief. Which cannot measure up to what he feels. I am extroadinarily proud of Roo - thank you to those who wrote to him.

If anyone spots photos of the wedding online, I'd love to see them.

Be on ITV news [22 Aug 2007|07:27pm]
I will post it again lest people have missed it.
Today's debate was on whether our troops should be in Iraq or not, tomorrow's is on the high levels of personal debt this country is facing.

Get involved.
------------------------------------------------
ITV needs citizen correspondents. People who will record 30 secondish clips of their opinion via a phone or webcam and upload it to their site so it can put them on the TV news.

I have been doing it for weeks and it is really really fun.

It needs eloquent and articulate people.
You lot all have endless opinion on your blogs, why not share it with ITV?

The better the quality of opinion offered, the more debate and discussion. It's important - TV news should be a discussion, not a monologue.

I think this is a chance to be part of something really important.

ITV phoned me today and are even willing to supply web cams to people who are really keen but don't have them.

If you want to get involved, email uploaded@itv.com and tell them you want to subscribe. If you could mention my name (buttering them up with my usefulness - you never know, I might apply for a job one day) that would be great.

Liz Bartram is the online producer involved - you can email her at LIZ.BARTRAM@ITN.CO.UK or ring her on 0207 430 4707 if you need to discuss how to upload or want to ask for a webcam (I think you'll have to be pretty keen to bag the freebie).

Get involved! It is satisfying and important.

Remember, Dark Lantern is only on Friday and Saturday and then you'll have missed your chance to see my favourite show this fringe!

Details found here: http://www.edinburghguide.com/festival/2006/fringe/review_theatre.php?page=d#dark_lantern

GO SEE IT!*

*I could be tempted to go again, it was that good. Maybe give me a shout if you're heading along and I will see if I can come.

I have been reviewing this festival and I have seen some fabulous productions. Nothing I have seen has made me want to write a note here to urge you lot to go. Until now, I’ve just left my recommendations on the Edinburgh guide website.

I HAVE to recommend Dark Lantern (http://www.edfringe.com/shows/detail.php?action=shows&id=DARKL)

I have not been so moved, compelled and honestly frightened by a play in years. 6.30pm everyday, at that community hall café/bar/venue on Montgomery street. There’s only a week left of its run and you would miss something amazing if you don’t go and see it.

The audiences are tiny which is unfair for such an amazing show.

I have had an accident with some fake tan.
I have orange palms and a streaky body.
I look like a new species of Thundercat.

Dark City tonight.

There's a good chance Sian and I will be interviewing Covenant tonight.

If you have a burning question you've always wanted to ask them then do comment and I will see if it fits in with our other questions.

Pushkin [10 Feb 2006|11:14pm]
Died today in 1837 (of wounds inflicted in a duel)

"I have outlasted all desire,
My dreams and I have grown apart;
My grief alone is left entire,
The gleanings of an empty heart.
The storms of ruthless dispensation
Have struck my flowery garland numb-
I live in lonely desolation
And wonder when my end will come.
Thus on a naked tree-limb, blasted
By tardy winter's whistling chill,
A single leaf which has outlasted
Its season will be trembling still. "

It's only pretentious, rhyming, often predictable poetry, but I like it.

Kevin is cutting his hair off tomorrow...
