oh, you've done a remarkable job of peeling back the sam layers, all those details of how she feels in her own physical and emotional container. the echo of her hopes and awareness work beautifully with the ending which is very fine.
and yay that the advisor has gotten in touch. *hugs*
Thank you... interesting that you picked out the ending, because part of that was letting Sam draw conclusions that I know won't bear up, and part is just justifying them the way that I would if it were me. So that it sounds perfectly reasonable is both marvelous and terribly revealing about me, I think. Probably why I wouldn't let myself think about it too much.
*hugs back* Hope it lasts with the advisors attention.

ah, i know what you mean about not thinking *too* much. but part of what struck me about the ending is how it fits in juxtaposition with what we knoew about sam, and what you show in the story. all those layers that work together to keep pushing her along her road, and make her wonderfully human. er, i hope that makes sense...it's hard to articulate.
and yes, i hope the advisor sticks around too. *more hugs*
Oh, good, with the human part. One of the mistakes I think is made with Sam is letting her be too perfect and have no flaws on the show, so I like that she comes to conclusions that maybe aren't the right ones, that we've seen her be adventurous and self-sufficient and fun and exciting and yet she thinks what she needs is normal and easy.
I'm not sure Sam can deal with easy, and I'm hoping now that she tried normal, knows she can do it, knows it's not what she wants, that she'll open up to the possibility of something a little different.

good point about how the appearance (or actuality) of perfection diminishes the portrayal. some vulnerability layered in with the genius makes the whole dynamic more intersting to me. and i think you're right about how the illusion of "easy" and "normal" is a powerful attractor for her...even if the reality of it might not be enough for her in the long run.
