If there is one person, or more, on your friends list who makes your world a better place just because they exist and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

Happy birthday, _m_h_n! :D

Of heb ik "na de elfde februari" verkeerd geïnterpreteerd en ben je pas op de twaalfde jarig? In dat geval ben ik vast en zeker de eerste die je feliciteert. Lang zal je leven en al dat soort dingen! :)

You Have A Type B+ Personality

You're a pro at going with the flow
You love to kick back and take in everything life has to offer
A total joy to be around, people crave your stability.

While you're totally laid back, you can have bouts of hyperactivity.
Get into a project you love, and you won't stop until it's done
You're passionate - just selective about your passions

Oh yes, I got this mousepad for Christmas:

It features a print by Hiroshige and makes me smile every time I look at it. ^^

I have been going through my friends' journals in the past few days to catch up. I haven't read everybody's yet, but I'm getting there, s l o w l y but surely. I didn't go to bed until 5:30 on 1 January, which is a new lj record (well, I said I didn't do New Year's resolutions), and last night it was not much better, 5:15. That was not because of lj though. Just when I wanted to log off, the radio dj I was listening to finished his show at 2:00 by playing an old Caroline classic which I hadn't heard in ages, "Still you turn me on" by ELP. It really took me back, and so I spent the next few hours hunting through 21 pages of Googled results (with several Russian websites causing Safari to crash, which was bloody annoying), before I finally found a site where I could listen to the whole song.

I must say, for a song that intends to be taken seriously, it sure has atrocious lyrics: hereCollapse ) If it were a poem, it would be worthy of reallybadpoetry's scalpel. But I just love the music, and Greg Lake sings like a god here. Of course I had to play it at least 7 times, together with "From the beginning", before I finally logged off. *sigh*

A Dutch saying goes: "Men moet de dag niet prijzen voor het avond is." Meaning: "One should not praise the day before night has fallen." I should have waited with my review of 2004 until it was truly over, but who could have guessed that that already less-than-great year had one more trick up its sleeve? I don't mean for me personally, my holidays were lovely, but of course I'm referring to the appalling news from SE Asia. With every news bulletin I heard, the death toll had risen by another 10,000. 126,000 and counting, it is incredible. Those figures are beyond comprehension to me. My commiserations to all those who have been personally affected by this disaster.

My wish to everyone: may the new year be better than its predecessor.

2005 started off well for me. On my walk in the park this morning a spotted woodpecker crossed my path, which was a lovely surprise. I had heard it before, but never seen it until now. Shortly after I also saw (for the third time) the flock of green parakeets. They seem to be thriving. I like to think that these sightings are good omens for the new year, and I went home smiling.

When I was brushing my teeth this afternoon, a splitting headache descended upon me from out of the blue. Since then I have been eating Finimal tablets like chocolates, but to very little avail, so for the rest of the day I have mainly been keeping quiet. Still, it was a good day.

It's lovely to be back. But OMG, how am I ever going to get up-to-date with my friends page again?? There are about 9 or 10 pages of new entries to read! Very inconsiderate of you. ;)

So much to learn, so much to discover... This website is way too addictive for my own good. I've been here for the better part of the afternoon and all of the evening, even skipping dinner, so when I eventually got hungry it was too late to start cooking and I resorted to opening a packet of crisps instead.

I have looked at several communities and I noticed that some people ask politely if they can add someone. Oops. I hope it isn't bad netiquette to add without asking, I couldn't find anything about it in the FAQ. I have posted on forums before, but as I said, something like Livejournal is completely new to me. I don't mean to offend anybody, I just prefer adding people quietly, not drawing too much attention to myself, especially when I don't have a lot to show for it yet, and let people check me out if and when they feel like it (welcome, maldeluxx!).

Well, I should really logoff now. Fortunately I have the day off tomorrow. And I hereby solemnly promise not to spend it in front of the computer. (At least, not the whole day, anyway!)
