After nine days of garbage collectors being on strike the city centre is becoming extremely filthy. The tourists don't seem to mind too much though, I saw several of them photographing each other in front of the rubbish heaps.

Noooo! I have such wonderful memories of Amsterdam precisely because it's is, was, so gorgeous!

And so it will be again, fear not!

I think the authorities will call a halt to it any day now, before it becomes a real health hazard.

Seeing the sign on the building, "...Artistique", I could almost imagine that the pile of trash is some modern artist's attempt at social commentary with a sculpture made of garbage.

As bad as it looks, I can only imagine how some areas must smell - by grocers and restaurants...EEEWWW!

And the only spot of niceness amidst the ugly, are the prints/photos of trees and plants in the windows.

That, and the Art Nouveau paintings and sign. I love the look of that building, that's one reason why I picked this particular rubbish heap.

The temperatures lately have been very low for the time of year, so fortunately the smells are not as bad as they could have been. (Every disadvantage got its advantage, as our famous philospher Johan Cruijff used to say.)

Great shot.

I haven't been following the news that much, but I was biking through A'dam yesterday and it seemed like most of the mess was cleaned up. Did the strikers get what they hoped for (salary increases?)

Yes, they reached an agreement for the time being, so the strike was ended on Monday.

Thank you!
