Forever and a day

It's been a loooong time since I updated. I'm not even sure why since I have been watching tons of stuff and have had things to say about them. I think the problem is just that it eventually got to be so much that it just felt overwhelming to post about it. So I figured I'd start writing and see how long I can go before get tired of it.

Okay, I think I've used up ALL THE WORDS now. Sorry about the word vomit and if you struggled through all that, I'm truly sorry. Cookie?

I'm at work and while we're on hiatus from translating The Daily Show, I feel it's my obligation (MY OBLIGATION, I TELL YOU!) to keep up with what's happening on the show so I'll be on top of my game once it starts back up in September. Which is why I watched last night's episode first thing when I came to work. So here's the question: Good employee or BEST. EMPLOYEE. EVER? I think we all know the answer to this.

Of course, it's my last week before my vacation and there's not much happening right now, so I'm feeling particularly slackerish (and not very guilty about it either. If it was busy, I'd work. Since it's not, I'm okay with goofing off. And hey, speaking of goofing off, does anyone play the app Wordfeud? 'Cause so far I'm only playing against one person and I need MOOORE so I can waste even more time at work. I'm jackall if anyone wants to play.)

KDRAMAS! Oh god, I love it so much right now. (Once I've exhausted the good crop again, I'm sure I'll burn out on the mediocre ones in no time, but for right now: LOVE.)

I also started watching Joseon X-Files last night, but I fell asleep 15 minutes in. No reflection on the drama, it was just after midnight and I didn't sleep much the night before. I'm watching it because I've heard positive things, but what I really want right now is a drama that satisfies my id. Like, a totally 'shippy, fun romp with a dash of angst (why hasn't Myong Wol the Spy finished airing again! It looks like it'd fit the bill perfectly!)

I haven't uploaded icons to my Scrapbook for ages. I think I'll do that when I get home. Just as a note: if you're ever interested in any of my icons, just steal them from my userpic page, or you could be in for a looooooong wait.

I write LJ posts, therefore I am?

My job is so awesome sometimes. Like today, the Daily Show file was late so the translator and I made our own fun by having an extended email conversation using really bad translations of English idioms. (And I'm not even counting the fact that I get paid to watch The Daily Show. Every. Single. Day.)

I am seriously obsessed with City Hunter, checking the Tumblr tag several times a day. I'm even to the point where I rewatch and notice things that make me want to write meta. Meta! About a kdrama! I don't even know, you guys, how come this drama is so GOOD?

Of course, I forget everything I want to say if I don't write it down immediately. Collapse )

The rumors are wrong. I am, in fact, not dead

Last week was a close call, though, when I got sick on Tuesday morning and still had to work all week (racking up 50 hours total for the week. Fun! Except not.)

I really needed more than just a weekend to recharge, but that's all I get, so I tried to make the best of it. And by "make the best of it" I mean "buy the last charms I need to complete my Pandora bracelet". Collapse )

Other things that have happened:

  • I finally got myself that new cell phone I was talking about a few months back! And yes, I ended up getting an HTC Legend after all. I LOVE IT. Don't know how I ever lived without it. I've read two books on it so far, I've got two True Blood episodes awaiting viewing, I've become addicted to Mancala, Reversi and Unblock Me (any other game app recs would be most welcome!) and it's the only way I've been able to stay sorta up-to-date on my Twitter feed for the past two weeks.

  • I've been fairly good about keeping up with TV. Well, considering... Collapse )

  • I uploaded a bunch of icons today.

man plans, the flying spaghetti monster laughs

I worked all weekend, and yesterday I'd about reached my limit so I told my boss that I was going to "sort of" take today off (only doing the bare minimum, like delivering files and answering emails). HAHAHAHA! Forgive me while I wipe away my tears of indescribable horror at not having had a day off for 11 days straight laughter.

Just out of curiosity I counted up the number of emails I'd written today at four thirty. OVER 80! And that was just the emails. WHY IS THIS MY LIFE?!

Needless to say, I worked more than eight hours today anyway and I'm so ready for the weekend to come, you have no idea.

I haven't really been finishing many Dramas lately (except for my rewatch of Coffee Prince. It was even better this time around, and the pacing issues are solved by just FF-ing through all the boring stuff), but I've started plenty. I've started keeping track of them in this sticky!post. I figure you guys were probably getting sick of my All Drama All the Time posts. =)

The newest Firefox release (?) is screwing with my LJ log-in, but only when it comes to Scrapbook, so posts to acapaday have been spotty lately (my album for that is private and since I can't log in I just see the public albums).

It wasn't until last night that I realized that I could access Scrapbook with Chrome. Which is a pain, but better than nothing, I guess, until either Firefox or LJ rights itself.

Now I just have to figure out if I have the energy to do some capping for a cap game tomorrow...

You know you're from Sweden when...

Collapse )

Well, that was a whole lot of stuff you never wanted to know about Sweden.

When I left for work this morning I was right in the middle of the last episode of Boys Over Flowers. Yep, I'm going to finish this puppy, no problem! And actually, the point where everyone else seems to have quit in disgust (about halfway through?) is when I started to become really really amused with the show. So it seems that I'm the one full of epic fail in this case, not the show. (Well, okay, maybe the show too.)

I think the reason I started enjoying it was that I finally just gave up caring about the main love triangle and instead started noticing things like Lee Min Ho's waddle (have you ever noticed that he holds his head really still when he walks, making him look very much like a duck on dry land? This cracked me up more times than it probably should have), and how fun the minor characters could be. Also, I got invested in the Yi Jung/Ga Eul 'ship for a while there, but then it got annoying with the long lost love thing, just like in Hana Yori Dango. Blech!

Being the productive employee that I am, I have spent several hours looking at Drama vids on YouTube this week, and stumbling upon a bunch of Coffee Prince vids have made me ache to rewatch it, so I'm probably going to be doing that soon.

I have so much to watch now (I can finally watch Capital Scandal!!!) that I don't even know where to start.

What I Did on My Summer Vacation

(An Essay by _jems_.)

  1. Watched Kdramas.

  2. Um...

Haha, you think I'm kidding, but I'm NOT. On Monday, my first official vacation day, I watched 15 episodes of Goong. That's over 16 hours of TV watching in one day! That takes dedication, let me tell you. (Also, it cracks me up to think that I'm getting extra pay to veg out in front of the TV for two weeks. And I don't mean that I have paid vacation, I mean that in Sweden WE ACTUALLY GET PAID MORE WHEN WE'RE ON VACATION. This country sometimes... *shakes head* ... *also, stays here forever*).

Honestly, it feels like entire countries have dedicated their television-making industries to delivering to me my favorite 'ship trope: asshole!boy falls for protagonist!girl and sets off on a path of redemption.

Collapse )

Let's see, where did we leave off...? Collapse )

Shows what I have downloaded but not watched:

  1. Attic Cat.

  2. Boys Over Flowers. (So, I had planned to watch this right after Hana Yori Dango, but EVERYONE kept saying they couldn't finish it, and I started to see it as a personal challenge to watch all 25 episodes. But I figured that might kill this whole obsession dead if it is indeed as bad as everyone keeps saying. So I'm putting it off until the feeling passes.)

  3. Capital Scandal. (I keep saving this one because I figure I'll need a palate cleanser after BOF. Heh.)

  4. City Hall.

  5. Goong S. (Anyone watch this? Since no one recced it along with Goong I'm just going to assume it sucks and go from there.)

  6. Nodame Cantabile.

  7. Oh! My Lady. (If for no other reason than this gif by typicrobots. CUUUUTE.)

  8. Que Sera Sera.

  9. You're Beautiful. (in progress)

Now I just have to decide what to watch next...

Why are there only 24 hours in a day?

You know, you'd think a job where you watch South Park all day is pretty sweet, but it so isn't. OMG, most boring work EVER. I'm so sick of South Park that I could puke. And I haven't even gotten to the seasons where the show started to suck so much that I quit watching. Ugh.

Work is insane this week, but instead of letting my long work hours interfere with my Drama watching, I'm letting it interfere with my sleep. I'm only sleeping five hours a night right now so that I have time to put in about six hours of Drama watching after my 12 hour work days.

Since my last post I've:

  • Finished My Lovely Kim Sam Soon (Cuteness! Best pacing of the Kdramas I've seen so far!).

  • Finished My Girl (Learned a lot of interesting things about Korean family relationships. Enjoyed the female lead a ton.)

  • Finished Hana Yori Dango season 1 (It's so much more stylized than the Korean dramas I've watched. Is it bad that I actually miss the hour-long episodes? I mean, 46 minutes, what the hell is that?! That's just WEAK. ;-)

  • Watched three episodes of Hana Yori Dango season 2.

Waiting for me (on my new hard drive I had to buy because the old one was full):

  1. Boys Over Flowers.

  2. Capital Scandal.

  3. Full House.

Still have to get:

  • Hana Yori Dango movie (Wait, this isn't episode 2x11, right? It's all very confusing.).

  • EVERYTHING ELSE EVER!

I'm having so much fun with this, you guys don't even know. I've missed being completely obsessed with something like this. Usually it's a 'ship, but I'll take a genre.
αΩ | ♋ | ugh

(no subject)

Even though I woke up more than ten hours ago, I still haven't rid myself of my morning sluggishness. Of course, this may have something to do with staying up all hours of the night, hemming trousers of all things. Yeah, I don't even know why I felt that that was something I needed to do at two am, but whatever.

And then I spent the day translating The Colbert Report, which I'm not convinced was the greatest of ideas considering how ineffectual my brain is today, but it's not like I had a choice. It's kind of fun translating the global edition (the credit word is "globallsy" in case you're curious), none of that censoring nonsense, so those "fucking squirrels" remained intact. =)

After almost 20 days of keeping track of TV episodes (new episodes only. Apparently I made this decision at some point, I'm not even sure when), I've averaged about 6.5 episodes a day. I'm pretty freaking impressed by that since I don't feel like I've been watching all that much TV. Of course, once I start marathoning any of the many many MANY shows I plan to rewatch, that number will go down. I think. I should probably never underestimate my powers of television watchage.

So, I just finished watching all of Titus (which I'd translated a few episodes of, but hardly seen any of the rest, as I discovered) and now I can't decide what's next. So therefore, a poll!

Also, I finally uploaded a bunch of new icons. I've been making loads lately (I have a lot of spots to fill), but it wasn't until this weekend that I felt I actually got some I could use. I hate losing my icon-making mojo like that, because the only way to get out of it is to work through it. And there's nothing worse than making sucky icon after sucky icon, thinking "what if they never stop sucking?". Whatever, they're uploaded now, and maybe I can start with a clean slate.

Happy Day 3: Okay, I'm the saddest person ever, but discovering the Stay on Top and Opacity functions on the Stickies program that Tissa linked to the other week made me practically giddy today. I LOVE this application.

Other things making me happy today:

  • It was my last day working in the office until next year. Because I took the coming two weeks off, the week after that I'm working from home, and the week after that it'll be January 5th, 2009.

  • It's going to be 2009 soon! This miserable excuse for a year is finally coming to an end. About freakin' time.

  • The second episode of Leverage aired! Not that I've had time to watch it, mind you, but at least it aired.
