Various and sundry

  1. Am I the only person who thinks that Brad Pitt is wholly unremarkable? Like, zero charisma (except for when he played Tyler Durden and I think most of that was in the writing).

  2. I spent the afternoon installing my new DVD/surround system, and of course I can't find a sound cable to connect the TV to it (so that I can get surround sound for my computer). OF COURSE. I probably have about a billion of them somewhere, but a fat lot of good that's doing me now. I'll probably pop out and buy one tonight - I'm not wired for patience.

  3. The rain that was forecast only showed up intermittently, so I haven't done much capping. I only capped PotC: Dead Man's Chest and the Eureka credits so far. And nothing has been uploaded. Go me! /sarcasm

  4. I recently switched to a new layout that goes all wonky with images that are 600+ px (on my widescreen, at least), and suddenly it seems that everyone on my flist is posting HUGE images uncut. What's up with that? I think I'm going to have to go find myself that Greasemonkey script that cut images over a certain size...

  5. While I did continue watching Studio 60 when it picked back up, I haven't seen the last few episodes, and I think I'm done. I can't imagine the kind of fundamental shift that I need in order to care has taken place, so... In the end it wasn't anger that made me stop watching, it was apathy. As is usually the case for me.

  6. Hi, Laura!

Long and pointless

You know, the car alarm that has been going off every 30 seconds for the past, oh, FIVE HOURS can just shut the hell up right now!!!

I hate people sometimes.

Since I doubt I'll be able to sleep I might as well write Collapse )

αΩ | … | bored now

Am bored. Send refreshments.

I am translating what may be The. Worst. Movie. Of. All. Time. A definite contender! You'd think that with Judd Nelson and Tricia Helfer in the mix I'd be at least partially entertained, but so far, not so much. It's just painful.

So, in my effort to avoid work today I created new keywords for my icons. I left the old ones for the most part, because I hate when it defaults to the default icon just because the name changed, but I'm phasing out the old system, which had become horribly mismanaged.

The new system is Collapse )

I also got a chance to watch Studio 60 Collapse )

New VM tonight tomorrow! I'm neither excited nor apathetic about it. I think I'm still in caps=good mode, which has been my default mode for this entire season. I've come to realize that what Rob wants from the show ("Just renew us, PLEASE, I'll do anything") isn't what I want. Much better to go out in a blaze of glory than fade away, I say.

zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Why is it that you always want to watch the stuff you've loaned out? Today I, in rapid succession, wanted to watch Firefly, Serenity and Green Wing. All on loan. All to the same person.

Instead I watched a new British show I found called Jane Hall. It's okay, I guess, but the real treat is watching people you know from other shows (I love how insenstuous the British TV industry is. Much like the Swedish TV industry). Guy from Green Wing plays one of the main characters. Only he's, like, the anti-Guy. All touchy-feely and nice. I'm a bit creeped out to tell you the truth. And then we have Mickey of Doctor Who fame. He hangs upside down from a window naked. All in all a good time.

I've been keeping a vigilant eye on my flist for download links for the version of O Holy Night that played on Studio 60 on Monday, and jesouhaite47 came through with the goods. Yay!

buffyx wrote a post about Dick and other VM stuff that I almost completely agree with. I'm not in complete agreement, because I am not, in fact, writing Taylor fic.

Sundry

I've tried making an icon out of this scene since...well, since it aired. Now I'm afraid to go look at it on one of my two other monitors because about half of my icons are scrapped because they look like crap on one of my three monitors, and I'm thinking this one will probably be a dud too.

I also uploaded frame-by-frame DVD caps of that scene here. Because I am insane. And I (like to pretend I) have no shame.

I finally figured out a way for me to get through Prison Break: skip anything that has T-Bag, skip most of the things that have to do with any of the convicts who are not related by blood, space out during most of the scenes with the brothers, ignore Michael's Mary Sue-ish tendencies and watch in fascination any time Sara is on-screen.

I've been watching Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares this weekend, because nothing is more entertaining than Gordon Ramsay on a rampage. (Though why does he insist on changing into his work clothes on camera? Trust me, I do NOT want to see his flab.)

Mondays are a good downloading day.

P.S. Is anyone else having issues with LJ? I keep getting errors.

Comment stalking for the win!

So, comment stalking has once again paid off, and I now have a script that has useful links from the LJ user icon menu. And I found a few more that I just had to install. All of them:

  • LJ useful user popup. The one I already mentioned. I don't like that it disables the actual user icon, so when LJ starts linking the user icon from their own menu (like I saw mentioned somewhere) I might uninstall this.

  • LJ Thread Unfolder with "Unfold all". My favorite find! One thing that really annoys me are the collapsed threads on entries with more than 50 comments, but with this script you can open them up "in situ", as it were. You can open specific threads (without being redirected to another page) or open all of them! LOVE!

  • LJ Friend-Of Unhide. Yes, that's right, hidden friends of lists become visible. Because I'm a nosy bitch. *g*

  • LJ Instant Comment. I probably won't use this much since there's no way to change your user icon, but I like the idea of being able to comment directly from my flist instead of having to go to a new page.

  • LJ New Comments. This is actually the one that got me to install Greasemonkey in the first place. I've mentioned it before.

There were also a few more I found when I went looking for the links above:

  • LJ Clean Friends. It automatically LJ-cuts quizzes so you don't have to see them. And it limits the width of images so your flist page doesn't go all wonky. My flist seems pretty light on the quiz-taking, so I don't know if this is even necessary.

  • LJ: anonymous posting warning. I'm not afflicted with this problem, but a lot of people seem to have issues with LJ logging them out without warning. Good to have in case it starts happening to me.

  • LJ collapser. You can hide the body of an entry on your flist that you've already read. I'd really like to use this, but it says it reboots with every refresh, so I'm going to wait for a better version that has some sort of...cache, maybe?

I've finally gotten back to capping VM season 2. My Mother, the Fiend and One Angry Veronica are up at vm-caps.com. Less painful than I had feared, but I've still got the major hurdle of Donut Run to go.

I keep making icons like crazy, I don't know what's wrong with me. I was up till four am last night just because I was having fun. Of course, I spent so long staring at this icon that I could no longer see who it was. Can you tell who it is?

I keep forgetting that I have an episode of BSG to watch, but I have watched other stuff:

Brazil is playing ummmm, Paraguay, I think, Ecuador (apparently) at my local arena in under an hour (and by local I mean I hear the crowds and if I only had a window in my apartment that faced that way and if I was higher up I could probably watch the game) and there is a lot of activity outside, people scrambling to find parking spaces, no doubt. Which is exactly why my only trek outside today happened much earlier in the afternoon.

I watched some more TV.

The momentum wore off a bit in the two weeks since I saw the premiere, but I'm officially excited for new VM today!

And I'm hoping for lots and lots of picspams in vmpicspam. I was a bit worried when 200 people had friended the comm in 24 hours because I thought my bandwidth would go through the roof. Only...people just linked to outside picspams (except for me and Laura). Now that's not right. I though people who had never done a picspam before might join in because it's so easy when you just have to hotlink. Or is the problem that people don't know exactly how to hotlink/picspam?

Now where's the Studio 60 screener? That's the one I really want to watch, but since the reviews I've read have been rather muted (and we're talking Aaron Sorkin fans here), I can see why they don't want the screener out there, killing the buzz.

In other news, I've also managed to rewatch season 1 of Farscape over the weekend. What? It's easy when you don't have to actually watch in order to rewatch. Watching while sleeping, making icons, working - all perfectly acceptable.
