Catching up is all I seem to do these days

So much TV to catch up on!

I'm watching a ton of other stuff. Still haven't given up on Revolution, but I'm close. Same with Up All Night. Nashville is turning out to be trashy fun, but I wish they'd lay off the women being at each other's throats. I just want awesome female characters interacting and loving each other, why is that so impossible for television to deliver! Oh, except The Bletchley Circle delivered it in spades! And was only four episodes long. *sigh* Last Resort has settled into a humdrum existence, which is a shame. (I mostly want Ben Covington and Taylor Townsend to meet and mack on each other. I'm not sure how this is ever going to happen, so my interest in the show is dwindling fast.) I'm actually enjoying The Mindy Project more and more, and I hope they find their footing. Once Upon a Time is no slouch when it comes to women, but the crappy CGI just takes me out of the moment Every. Damn. Time. I had hoped they would have wizened up by the time season 2 rolled around.

Thanks to my awesome job I have access to season 2 of The Hour. But I've been holding off on watching it because what if it's amazingly awesome and I'll have no one to talk to about it? It's a hard knock life, I tells ya!

This past week I also finally started watching The Lizzie Bennet Diaries on YouTube (along with half of Tumblr it seems) and Collapse )

Forever and a day

It's been a loooong time since I updated. I'm not even sure why since I have been watching tons of stuff and have had things to say about them. I think the problem is just that it eventually got to be so much that it just felt overwhelming to post about it. So I figured I'd start writing and see how long I can go before get tired of it.

Okay, I think I've used up ALL THE WORDS now. Sorry about the word vomit and if you struggled through all that, I'm truly sorry. Cookie?

(no subject)

A couple of years ago, on the first day of winter, we had people in Stockholm who were stuck in traffic for seven hours (black ice was the culprit if I remember correctly). I thought that was bad, but this NINE DAY traffic jam has to take the cake. Holy crap!

The only shows I'm keeping up to date with are reality shows. I may get spoiled for True Blood, Eureka, Mad Men, et al whenever I venture outside my flist (and sometimes even when I stick close to home - mostly through no one's fault but my own), but knowing one thing about an episode won't completely render it pointless the way knowing who gets booted off does for a reality show.

Today is the day

I finally filed my tax return today, and barring any problems, should have a refund coming my way in about a month and a half. And I'm considering spending some of it on the exact same thing I splurged on with my last tax refund: an eReader. Since buying the first one about a year ago I've read about as many books as I did in the six-seven years before that combined. So I definintely consider it a worthwhile investment. And the one I have my eye on has the exact features I was looking for last year: touchscreen and 16 level grayscale, with the additional feature of wifi. And BeBook even has their own rebranded version (is it bad that I almost want to buy the BeBook rebrand just because I think the splash screen is so much prettier?)

GOING TO SEE IRON MAN 2 IN LESS THAN THREE HOURS! Woohoo! I haven't been this excited about seeing a movie in a long time. I just hope my high expectations don't lead to a big letdown if the movie doesn't live up to the original.

Since I decided against watching Modern Family this season, naturally I'm now translating it. NATURALLY. Because god is punishing me (god being my boss, of course). My biggest contention with the show was Phil, but I have to say I'm pretty okay with it anyway. I mean, I'm getting paid to watch it, so having to suffer through Phil isn't as bad as it could have been. (Just from the pilot, he ranked right up there with Michael Scott as embarrassing characters I couldn't stand to watch. And while the other episodes - I'm up to 1x03 - haven't been as bad, I'm pretty sure I could grow to loathe him.)

I'm a little surprised that it's labeled a mockumentary at Wikipedia, though. It doesn't feel at all as a mockumentary except for the talking heads they do. I haven't made it far into the series, but does the mockumentary format become more prominent at some point?

I have almost no TV to talk about because all I'm doing right now is reading regency period romance novels and watching Kdrama(s) recommended by typicrobots. Some of what I've watched since my last TV post:

I hardly post anymore, but I still feel like I'm much more active on LJ than I've been for a while now since I post daily to acapaday. I often have that sudden inspiration of posting about something, but then I always think that that one thing isn't enough and can never think of another subject to post about and then I just give up on the whole idea. I'm not sure why I have that block, I used to post about just about anything, just about any time I felt like it.

In other TV news, even though I enjoyed the Cougar Town pilot, I haven't watched a single episode since. Eastwick was starting to bore me by episode 3, and when the cancellation came, it just became one less thing to catch up with. Still watching and enjoying: The Good Wife, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, White Collar, Castle, Dollhouse, etc. My reality shows are all losing their shine this season. I mean, it's been a steady decline over the past few seasons, but this season there hasn't been a truly excellent reality season in the bunch.

Ugh

After a few months of not complete and utter horror, I thought that 2008 might make a comeback and not turn out quite as atrocious as I thought it would be. Well, I guess it was just saving up for this past week, because I can now officially say that 2008 is just a huge ball of SUCK.

I am so ready for this year to be over.

A few of my favorite things I've picked up from my flist in the past few months:

Via oxoniensis: WallMaster. I used to use a different wallpaper changer, but I hadn't acquired a new one since I got my new computer (and was just using a very boring default wallpaper), but this freeware has me hook, line and sinker. Collapse )

Via txvoodoo: Append your gmail address to create however many different addresses you want.

So, you can have an address like yourname+spam@gmail.com to give out to any site you don't want emails from (or who you suspect might sell it to spammers) and then create a filter for emails to that address go directly into the spam folder. Personally, I mostly use it to automate tags, so that +etsy emails get the etsy tag, +paypal emails get the paypal tag, etc.

Nifty!

Things I've watched since my last post:

  • How I Met Your Mother 1x01-3x20

  • CSI: NY 1x01-1x05

  • Greek 1x01-1x13 (I think.)

  • Project Runway Australia 1x01 (I think I'm going to like it.)

  • Shear Genius 1x01-1x02 (Too early to tell, really, but I've agreed with the bootings so far.)

  • Hell's Kitchen 4x14

  • My Boys 2x04

Things I have not watched:

  • The Mentalist pilot (that's up next!)

  • The Middleman 1x03-1x04

  • Hell's Kitchen finale (don't spoil me!)

  • THE MILLIONS OF SHOWS I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF WATCHING/REWATCHING

I just realized (thanks to afrocurl), that the albums I've been uploading to lately have been set to private. I've fixed it, so here are the caps I've made lately (not all of them new):

Pushing Daisies
1x01 - Pie-Lette
1x02 - Dummy
1x03 - The Fun in Funeral

How I Met Your Mother
2x11 - How Lily Stole Christmas

Good PR and bad PR

For the longest time, I've been pulling for NBC. They're the underdogs of the big four, they seem to be more willing than most to foster good shows and they do have some great programming. They're pretty much the only network that I've ever felt some modicum of affection for (with ABC and CBS I just don't care and with FOX there's outright hate), but during the writers strike they've eroded that goodwill and the last bits crumbled today when I read that they sacked the entire writing staff of Days of Our Lives. Wow, what TOOLS.
