Rebecaving myself

Qwyzzle once again has me enthralled. I just went to check on when I last posted about it, and it was over a year ago, and until a few days ago I still hadn't gotten past level 34. That was an entirely evil level. But I've been plodding along since then, making it all the way to level 61, and now I'm stuck again. OF COURSE.

Also, I don't think I could manage more than the occasional level without hints from the forum. It's HARD. /whine

And! I hate that I have to use IE for it. Though, since it's the only thing I use IE for I decided to make my last solved puzzle my home page.

It's really bizarre to be translating Conan and have a Swedish band as the musical guest, but not being able to translate Peter Bjorn and John into Peter Björn och John, because it's a band's name, not the members' name. Well, it is the members' name, but they made it into a band name. Okay, now I'm confusing myself with all these names.

I'm still enjoying My Name is Earl, but mostly just on a superficial level.

Scrubs this season...I don't know, it's not doing it for me. Not even the musical (with the exception of Guy Love) did all that much for me.

Still liking Ugly Betty, though I will never understand why anyone would think Walter was a good character to have on the show. Can he just go away now?

Oh, also, Tim Gunn leaving Parsons for Liz Claiborne makes me anxious for Project Runway, but I'm trying to convince myself that Liz Claiborne would probably consider the show to be great publicity. Plus, the scheduling conflict for season 4 was Tim's commitments at Parsons, but now that's no longer an issue...

Jems' Law?

I think we need a new fandom law, akin to Godwin's Law, that states that anyone who posts any variation of "get a life" in a fandom-related forum automatically loses the argument. Who's with me?

I'm translating a movie right now, and I really wish that when they give me these kinds of assignments, and then shave five days off my deadline, they could at least mention that there's a lot of Danish in the movie. I hate translating Danish because it's too similar not to recognize, but different enough that I can never be completely sure of a correct translation. Fortunately, I have a Swedish translation to base it on, but I still don't appreciate the extra work so close to the deadline.

Got another DVD set in the mail. When I got the notice to pick it up I figured it would be season 7 of The West Wing, but it was My Name is Earl. I already watched the bloopers (because that's what I do) and I have to say that of the four DVD sets I've gotten this month, they're second only to Arrested Development's (sorry, but nothing can beat Jason's "fluffer" line). And they were even longer than the Office bloopers - 20 minutes.

Also, Victor Hammer needs to come back to VM because I miss the pretty. I didn't realize just how much until I saw DVD quality MNiE episodes.

I'm thinking of blowing off work for the rest of the day (despite the encroaching deadline) and capping the Office season finale, an episode of VM and possibly BSG's "Downloaded".

Should I?

Yes.

No.

Yes, but obviously you should be capping [insert fandom here] instead.

You suck, I only just got to work.

I ordered a whole bunch of movies online today. Mostly just ones I feel nostalgic for and want to upgrade to DVD status. And yesterday I bought three movies, none of which I've seen, but they were cheap and I don't think any of them are horrible. Oh, and I just found What's Eating Gilbert Grape in a bag. I bought it weeks ago. Oops. And I also ordered the first two seasons of Northern Exposure for 17 pounds. I can hardly even remember the show, but I've been wanting to watch it again and 17 pounds! I mean, come on!

I went to a nursery and bought cuttings earlier. Two hibiscus plants, one with yellow flowers, one with red. Two bougainvillea plants, one white, one purple, and two passionflower plants, one blue and the other is white, I think. I fully expect half of them not to make it, as per usual, but it's a pretty cheap way of getting nice plants by summer.

Now I just need to buy soil so I can repot them. And dig up pots. Shouldn't be hard, I've got millions of them.

I've been toying with the idea of finishing up my TWW capping before the end of the show. It's 60 episodes, which would probably mean something like one episode a day, which is totally doable. The question is whether or not to tackle the project.

Hey, Steph, I totally forgot about the upload until I sat down to watch the episode earlier (it's been so long!). It's in the usual directory now, though. =)

I also pre-ordered the Serenity DVD today. Is it bad that I now practically feel entitled to download it? I mean, come on, I've waited years for this film and I've tried to see it, but another month and a half?! That's just not fair. There's no way I can stay unspoiled for that long, people are already getting rather lax about cut-tags.

Oh, and in case it wasn't obvious by the above paragraph, when Serenity was pulled from the international market, I'll give you three guesses which country didn't get a cinema release. And the first two don't count.

Still bored. I resort to spam.

It's been about a month since the fall season really got under way, so I thought I'd do a recap of what's what and what's not. Viewable, that is.

(I'm just looking at this site, I can't really be sure they've got everything. But I think they do...except they don't have foreign shows, like Hex.)

HOLY CRAP, that was long. And rambly. Oh, and I wonder when Scrubs is returning...

I've also been translating Alias season 4, and man, I'd forgotten how much I hate Syd's reaction to Jack killing Irina. Jack probably doesn't help matters by not explaining things, but you'd think after all they've gone through and all he's done for her she'd at least give him a chance. I mean, the man refused to give up his search for her even when it landed him in prison! Ungrateful little bitch... *grumble grumble*

And I've been rewatching Wonderfalls. I only meant to cap an episode, but then I started watching and soon I'll have seen them all again. Out of order, because apparently I wasn't willing to admit I was doing a rewatch so I skipped around.

I really do think Jaye is my favorite female character in a long time. Maybe my favorite female character ever. And the actress has a lot to with it, because she's the reason Jaye can be sarcastic, sad, shocked and happy all in the space of one scene and still be believable.

My favorite part about the show is Jaye's relationship with her family. How she starts off trying to act like they're just a nuisance and ends up realizing how much she loves and needs them. I love the whole screwed-up bunch and the thought of all the missed opportunities there makes me want to cry.

I think the only weakness, at least from my point of view, is Eric. I just find him boring. And I kinda 'ship him and Jaye in the same way I 'ship Mal and Inara - until something better comes along. I think it's the whole "they're destined for each other" thing that I fight against with every fiber of my being. Kinda funny since the whole show is about surrendering to destiny, but there you go.
