The Post That LJ Forgot

I've noticed that in the past few weeks the only thing I post about is VM. I think it's because I've been avoiding this post, so let's dig in, shall we?

Now that that's done I might be able to get back to "normal" posting. I have about four picspams half-planned out in my head. And only two of them are VM!

TV whoredom

I watch way too much TV. Good thing Smith was cancelled. *deletes*

I was really worried about the avi files looking like crap on my new TV, but they really really don't. In fact, they look amazing. I mean, as amazing as a downloaded file can look, anyway. I'm a very happy camper.

Yesterday I was waiting for a friend to call me back and tell me she was ready to go to IKEA, so I started translating an episode of Conan. The first two guests weren't all that interesting (I was crossing my fingers for John Krasinski, because I knew he was just on the show), but total score on the musical guest: The Decemberists! Yay!

I made a bunch of icons yesterday and today, and I uploaded them to my Scrapbook, where I promptly realized that it's impossible to find them (I do wish there were options for sorting images), so I created a new album where I'll upload all the new ones I make and then I'll move them after a month or so.

Apparently half my friends list was born on this date

Happy birthday, bellanut, shannigansx and mrmonkeybottoms! *throws confetti*

I'm translating Martha today, and it's pretty much torturous for me, because it's a wedding special and I'm the least girly girl that ever was. My idea of an ideal wedding is pretty much what my parents did: eloping to a foreign country.

I just don't get the fascination some girls have with the perfect several hundred thousand dollar wedding, with the most expensive gown, the most perfect food, the right table setting, flowers in bunches... I just don't get the point. Because to me it seems that the more lavish the wedding, the less interest in the actual marriage. This is one thing where I agree 100% with Oprah: the point of the wedding isn't the actual event, it's the marriage that follows. Too many people seem to lose sight of that. If they even think of it in the first place.

In other news, I watched Collapse )

I'm almost done with all the caps, except for the British comedies. But the Firefly gallery is finished, and I've also uploaded all my Farscape episodes to date, and I only have one X-Files episode left.

Also, vm-caps.com is fast approaching half a million views. (Actually, since I deleted all the views from the season 1 .avis along with the images themselves, it's surpassed that number by now.)

I have very obvious favorite caps, like this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this and this one. But then there are the ones that seem to not get as much notice somehow, like this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this and this one. Probably because of the subject matter, but gah, is the show ever gorgeous!

So, does anyone want to link me to their absolute favorite caps?

P.S. If this turns out to be true I will kiss the feet of the first Showtime executive I see. (Thanks for the link, roniabirk).

Aaaaand ETA: Yay, Bradley Whitford's going to star in Sorkin's new show Studio 60! This must be a birthday present just for you, Steph! *g*

Despite my assertions that I may have to download Grey's Anatomy again if my flist started squeeing in earnest, I just can't bring myself to watch Meredith. Any time I even contemplate it, my entire mind just rebels against the horribleness that is the lead character and I can't do it. Too bad, but what can you do?

I uploaded my Gilmore Girls caps and added seven episodes of Friends to the US comedy show cap directory. Unless someone requests another season 5 episode, I think that's it for my Friends capping project. The screencap post has been updated.

In conclusion, I really miss VM and TWW. *goes back to reading fic to fill the void*

Sunday

Someone on my flist linked this Mensa intelligence test.

Yesterday I really missed VM, so I put on the fifth disc of season 1 and half-listened/turned to watch when something was about to happen while making icons. Actually, while making bases. I cropped almost 200 bases and made about ten icons. Typical.

I'm guessing it was brought on by cadhla's excellent post on Veronica and the fact that I spoiled myself for Wednesday's episode (which I really don't regret. At all).

Then I watched BSG (actually, I hardly even watched, that's how bored I was by it) Collapse ), My Name is Earl (funny as always) and The Office. Collapse )

I really should be translating Alias (I'm doing the Arvin Clone episodes and am feeling extremely uninspired. At least SpyMommy is returning soon), but all I really want to do is read really long and angsty fic, especially of the Josh/Donna (I'm gonna miss TWW. *sniff*) and Buffy/Spike variety. Anyone got any recs?

Project Runway, Project Catwalk, BSG, etc.

None of you guys are posting today and it's driving me nuts. Therefore, I will now be forced to spam you. Let's start with some TV talk.

Project Catwalk
I also watched the first episode of the British version with Liz Hurley, but it's been two days and I can't remember it. Not a good sign. Also? The one thing I can remember is thinking some of the designs were downright ugly. However, the fact that they had to shop for materials at a DIY-type store makes me think that maybe, just maybe, things will improve.

Elsewhere on the TV front, I'm not really enjoying Gilmore Girls right now. The West Wing feels seriously stalled (though I have not yet watched last night's episode) and I wish they would just do something. Anything. I forgot to watch Scrubs last week, but I enjoyed the first two episodes.

I'm still very conflicted about BSG, because it feels like they're dropping the ball. Collapse )

Interesting things learned from the old friends list

Well, first of all, there are apparently evil people on it. Specifically, molly_may for linking to Qwyzzle yesterday, which led to me spending four hours this evening solving puzzles. I quit at #34 - seemed like it would take way more brain power than I had available at the time. Further sign of evilness? I couldn't get it to work in Firefox so I had to use IE.

Apparently VM isn't returning until the 25th. I'm kind of grateful because I get the feeling I'm going to be very busy in the next couple of weeks.

Logan is gay.

A large portion of my spoiler-free friends have gone and spoiled themselves for VM. Personally, I'm thinking of doing that for BSG.

hobviously linked to a post on BSG and how Kara/Lee is somehow a sign of 'shipper entitlement. And I totally don't get it. Maybe it's because I'm a 'shipper (in general, but not really a Kara/Lee 'shipper), so I come at it from a different perspective, but I think the biggest problem I have is that I don't see the kind of overwhelming prevalence of Kara/Lee 'shippers that the post seem to indicate. Maybe I just have a very skewed friends list, but I feel like I know almost as many Lee/Laura 'shippers as Kara/Lee 'shippers.

Apparently The Office (US) doesn't suck! Who knew? Everyone's watching it right now, so I gave in and downloaded some episodes. Collapse )

There's a new Gilmore Girls episode tonight! I'd almost forgotten that the show would be returning.

The region 1 release of Doctor Who 2005 season 1 has been delayed.

Aaaand I think that's all the news that's fit to print.

(no subject)

As a translator I have a few language pet peeves. One of them is that Swedes tend to write words that are supposed to be one word as two words. I just found one of the funniest examples of how wrong you can go when you don't know Swedish well enough. I'm reading an ad for a camera and it says "lätt använd". Translation:

Lätt använd - slightly used.

What they meant to put was:

Lättanvänd - easy to use.

*headdesk*

Saw Home Part 2, and I have to agree with most of my flist that it didn't live up to the greatness that was Part 1. I also talked to a friend and fellow BSG fan and she said something that made me start to think. She said that she was bored by the show for the first few episodes and that it wasn't until episode 4 and 5 that she started finding the show interesting again. And I actually kinda agree. I know most people say that 4 and 5 were weak episodes and that 1-3 were amazing. And I agree that 1-3 are good plot-wise, but character-wise I feel they're really lacking. And then that's reversed in 4 and 5. It sort of seems like they can do one or the other but not both.

And that, coupled with the fact that the characters are not as strong as I like, may be the reason why I like the show, but I can't love it and obsess about it like certain other shows I could mention.

I hope everyone down in Louisiana is safe and sound. Even though it seems that the worst possible scenario was avoided, it's still going to be devastating by the time it's over.
