αΩ | Φ | bang bang

After a few months of not complete and utter horror, I thought that 2008 might make a comeback and not turn out quite as atrocious as I thought it would be. Well, I guess it was just saving up for this past week, because I can now officially say that 2008 is just a huge ball of SUCK.

I am so ready for this year to be over.

Someone asked me recently which day my favorite TV moment this year aired, but I have tried looking for the comment and I can't find it, and I can't remember who it was, so I'll just tell you here: it was the Feb. 1 airing of The Daily Show.

I can't decide if this icon is over-sharpened or not. I think so, but when I zoom in it doesn't look like it.

ETA: I've been trying to find a Greasemonkey script that allows you to view all LJ links in your own style, but the only one I've found also make journals into your own style. This wouldn't be a huge problem if it didn't also do it to my friends page and reloads it every time I try to view it. It's really annoying. Does anyone know of one that doesn't do that?

(no subject)

After the US election two years ago, this is what I had to say:

I really feel that this outcome will mean that America and the world will be worse off in four years, just like we're worse off today than we were four years ago. How much worse? Well, that depends on how much the American public is willing to put up with.

I guess we have our answer: The American public will put up with anything, considering they're hardly blinking an eye at having their basic human rights taken away.

The disgust I feel for Bush cannot even be expressed in words. He's committing war crimes and pardoning himself for them retroactively and he's not being impeached?

"Land of the free" my ass! "Land of the free to be tortured" is more like it. And now every American citizen can join in the fun since you no longer have any rights. Congratulations!

In other news, I'm getting the Generator Layout of Doom, and no matter what I do I can't get my old layout back, so I figured I could at least go and change my comment pages to the default style, but I've been to every single settings page I can think of and I can't find it.

Fixed! Thanks for the help.

Happy birthday to Ashley and Clara!

VM-ness and price gouging

For those of you wondering, apparently someone talked to Regina on Monday.

You know that post from the other day? Oops, spoke too soon.

Oh my god, people have no shame!

I finally took a look at CNN's New Orleans coverage (still pictures have been more than enough for me till now) and it's just worse than I ever thought possible. A few days ago I was so angry at the people who looted (not the people who went in for food, but the ones who went in for profit), but now? I understand why they're so angry. I'd be pissed as hell too if I thought I'd been abandoned by everyone in a drowning city.

Yesterday there was much VM-ness with the new promo and all. Not to mention the fact that the Titus I translated had Wanda Varner! It was coming at me from all sides. Oh, and there was also Bill (Kill Bill, that is).

I also cancelled my Amazon.co.uk order for the VM soundtrack and ordered it from Amazon.com instead. They lowered the price and I realized I could include it in the GG s4 shipment, thus saving money on shipping, so I figured it was for the best. It'll take longer, but it's not like I don't have most of the songs anyway.

And since Steph asked (and I can't be bothered to go look for the comment), I answer to: Jems, Jennifer and Jen. But not Jenn. =)

Rewatching Sports Night I heard Crimson and Clover and immediately wanted to watch VM. God, I miss it so much.

Speaking of VM, I don't understand how people can complain about the term LoVe (which I think is pretty darn inventive, funny and pithy) while at the same time using the term WeeVer completely seriously. That's one of the worst ship names I've ever heard, mostly because it immediately makes me think of Reavers, which of course leads me to...

The Serenity screening in Edinburgh and the fact that I really really want to see it and it's just a hop, skip and a jump from here. I mean, who knows when I'll actually get to see it? So so tempted.

Also, have you seen firefly_daily? I'm really enjoying the commentary. And the caps are so pretty. Love that cinematography.

I'm avoiding work today because I'm well into translating Alias season 3 Collapse )

The award for most stupid thing said in the past week goes to...

It's an upset! It's FOX News! /sarcasm

Anchor John Gibson said that Rove deserved a medal for outing Valerie Plame. So, in other words, the people who work to preserve the security of the nation should be revealed to the enemy? There's a concept that'll take the nation by storm. I know, let's tell everyone Sydney's a spy and that way we'll kill two birds with one stone.

BTW, the link in the previous paragraph goes to a video of said event.

Watching someone being utterly humiliated is fun!

Okay, so bailunrui linked to this webcast of White House spokesman McClellan. The reporters are just pounding him into the carpet, relentless in their questions about Rove and his involvement in the reveal of the CIA operative.

The hypocrisy is just astounding! You know what I'd really like to see now? The special prosecutors coming forward and saying: "Hey, talk all you want". Heh, now that would be funny.

Oh, and how bad is it that he couldn't pronounce those names from the statement? Just practice before you go out there and make a dumbass of yourself. Also, I think he pronounced Srebrenica wrong. Every other time I've heard someone pronounce it, it's been Srebre-nietzsche (like the philosopher) and he pronounced it Srebre-nike. That's just so offensive and downright rude, especially as the statement was about the anniversary of the massacre that occurred there. And it's not like the town is unknown, if you've watched the news in the past ten years you're bound to have heard it. But hey, I, and every newscaster ever, could be wrong.

I'm capping The Peacekeeper Wars and it's kind of tiresome. Three straight hours, and the encoding is pretty shoddy, so it's hard to get good shots. Too bad the mini DVD isn't up to their usual high quality standards (though with those prices the quality had better be damn good!). I also want to cap it pretty thoroughly so I won't ever have to go back. Looks like I'll end up with about 2000 caps. Oy!

Got the first two seasons of Moonlighting and the entire run of Sports Night earlier today, so I'll be settling down to watch those at some point. I'll probably cap some of it too, because I haven't found DVD caps for either of them. Though, granted, I haven't been looking very hard. Any episode requests?

Since my addressed person comma rant I've become more aware of why exactly it bothers me so much. I can usually understand the author's intent, but when it's written wrong I invariably go back to the sentence and try to figure out ways that the written way would make sense. Like, the other day I read this:

"Nothing man."

Now, I'm guessing most people just pass it by, go on their merry way. Not me. This is my thought process: "Hmmm, 'Nothing Man'. I wonder if he's anything like Batman? What would his special powers be? What would the nothing-signal look like? Just a regular old light? So every time there's a restaurant opening he comes rushing in to save the day. That would piss me off, running to the rescue and finding out it's all just a big waste of time."

Do you see why this becomes bothersome? I completely lose the thread of the fic. And this happens every single time. Sometimes I can't find a way to make the original mean something else, but most of the time I spend a good minute dreaming up scenarios.

Political post...and screencaps!

People were angry yesterday, and believe me, I understand. I made an extremely ranty post, felt it wasn't really directed at anyone on my friends list, just me spewing, and posted it privately. Today I watched The Daily Show and cried. Because I felt just as heartbroken as they did.

On the election I do have this to say: I really feel that this outcome will mean that America and the world will be worse off in four years, just like we're worse off today than we were four years ago. How much worse? Well, that depends on how much the American public is willing to put up with.

And in slightly less inflammatory news: Veronica 1x06 Return of the Kane screencaps.
