I suck at computer stuff

I know I said I was determined to get back on track with comments, but then something weird happened to my monitor and I went into avoidance mode and read TWW fic instead.

As for my monitor? Well, the lights suddenly dimmed. In that "I have to turn the Brightness and Contrast up to 100% to get it to even approach normal levels" way. So, does anyone know what could cause something like that? It happened while I was away from the computer (with the monitor on), so I have no clue if the cat accidentally stepped on the keyboard and did something, or what. It's almost as if a bulb burned out.

Also, I remember when installing Photoshop 7.0 there was a guide for adjusting your monitor, but now I can't find it (I was thinking I could maybe try tinkering with that, because right now anything dark comes out black, no doubt due to the contrast being turned up fully), so does anyone know how to start that guide? Or do I have to reinstall the program?

I'm extra bummed because Lyssa re-opened icon_spark and even though I want to, I can't do anything because I don't know how the icons actually look. They might look like crap on anyone else's monitor.

Wonder Woman=6?

I was just looking at Tricia Helfer's imdb page and on a whim I clicked on a Message Board discussion (something I've never done) and someone said that she should be considered for Wonder Woman and something in me just clicked. Wouldn't she make a kick-ass Wonder Woman? She's tall enough, she'd look amazing in the suit and she can actually act. Novel concept for an action heroine, I know.

Someone should really tell Joss.

Still haven't seen last night's Gilmore Girls. Don't really feel motivated to. Which might explain my almost undeniable temptation to spoil myself for the show. So far this season I can barely even remember to download it, much less watch it, and I'm thinking this latest spoiler that's got everyone in such a state might just intrigue me enough to ratchet up my interest a few notches. Oh well, it's not like I have to decide right now. The spoilers will still be there when I've made up my mind - one way or another.

Thanks for all the help on the computer issue yesterday. I ran three spyware scans, deleted a bunch of unnecessary files, but I think what really did the trick was the defrag. Stupid Windows for telling me it wasn't necessary! From now on I'm doing regular defrags, I don't care what it tells me.

In other news, I didn't finish until well after nine yesterday, so I never got to finish translating Nocturne. Can I just say that I think the fight between Syd and Vaughn at the end must have been very therapeutic for both the characters and the actors? Well, I just did, so I guess that means I can.

And now I'm off to pick up a mystery package! It's either VM s1 and AD s2 or GG s4 and the VM soundtrack. I know which one I'm hoping for...

Oh wise friends list...

I'm going slowly insane. My computer is getting more and more sluggish and I'm not exactly sure what I can do to make it faster. So, what should you do to maintain your computer? Clear cachés? Defrag? Clear temp files? Uninstall programs you don't use?

I'm trying not to do any unnecessary printing, having an actual paper free office, and I haven't printed anything out for months now. But my computer is slowly giving up the fight of having the subtitling program, browser, Word/Adobe Reader, dictionary and sometimes e-mail client open at the same time.

I remember the manual for the subtitling program "suggesting" that you have 40 GB of free hard drive space in order for it to run at optimal efficiency, but I've found that 30 GB has been sufficient up till now. Maybe I just need to find 10 more GB somewhere? Deleting all my music files should do half the trick, at least.

Any advice would be appreciated.

In other news, YSI now has this pop-up window that shows you the progress of the file you're uploading. Much better.

Oh well, back to translating Alias. Will the fun never stop?
