Merry Solstice

Merry Summer Solstice everybody.

This has been a pretty shit mid-summer's day really. We should have been celebrating our win against Brazil and our entry into the semi-finals but it's all gone a bit wrong.

I must admit I'm dissapointed. This is the first world cup since 90 that I really feel we've had a chance, we could have done it. I didn't even think it from the offset, despite the events in Munich of 9/1 but the world since 9/1 hasn't really changed that much. Our problem? we should have been more confident.

The first twenty minutes before that goal had me worried, England just didn't seem to be putting its whole into it - it was as if we were scared of Brazil when really we shouldn't. Brazil were playing good but no better than us in previous games and we should have been more confident, and we were - After that first goal - For those 25 odd minutes we were playing fantastic. We should have hung onto that when Brazil equalised but I think the term Gary Liniker used "deflated" fitted quite well - after Brazil Equalised it was as if we gave up! - Okay we should have really got a second goal when we were in top in the first half but after the first half it was as if we had admitted loss from the offset and as a result Brazil gaining the lead was the last nail in the coffin and it was as if nobody thought we had any chance.

But we did. Brazil on ten men and Svenn had plenty of chances to do a few subs but waited until 78 minutes - far too late in my opinion... Its pointless saying what we should have done but this is one match we could have won, I suppose it just boils down to Luck relaly. Seaman doing that fall and missing that goal.

And I feel sorry for Seaman. In all the last matches he was absolutely fantastic, everybody siad so but in his last world cup it will be that goal that gave Brazil the lead that he will be remembered for. Shame really, he's been excelent and his only big mistake happened to be the one that came at the wrong time.

And the people who say we could have won had we got through weren't being optomistic. In a cup when Argentina and France are out before the quarter finals anything can happen - even an England win. And its not as if we were shit.

The worse thing is even though Brazil beat us we're probably the second best team in the cup yet because of how it's worked out we get nothing. Had Brazil been in another group so that we didn't meet them to the final things might have been very, very different.

So it's left me pretty underwelmed really. Ahh well. At least the anti-football league have something to be happy about.

Ambitions

I was at work today and when I finished at six I went around the other side of the bar for a few drinks. I had three heinekens in 45 minutes costing me a total of 7.20 and it lead me to thinking - I drink in an hour more than I earn in two. (I earn 4.50 an hour)

And that, is not a good thing

So I have decided my carreer ambition of life. To be in a job where I earn more in an hour than I can drink in that time.

Makes sense I think. Lets hope oneday I fulfill it.
