Do you have a remarkable phobia? Does your phobia have a large impact on your life?
I have a bizarre fear of a cluster of holes, which I believe is called Tryptophobia. It isn't so much that I'll run and hide upon seeing them, but more that the sight or thought of it makes me feel really uncomfortable and sick and I can't look at it longer than a few seconds without feeling really horrible. Like I'm about to vomit. It's really specific too.. I can take polka dots, those are fine. One giant hole, maybe two- no prob. I like swiss cheese, even. But things like lotus seed pods are absolutely disgusting to me. Or a disarray of black dots, blech! I don't know how it developed, but it came about a couple years ago.
I've mentioned this fear to a few of my friends, as it's interesting to me how strange the mind reacts to things.
I used to be incredibly phobic of ghosts, the cause of which was repeatedly seeing the scene in the movie "Three Men and the Little Baby" as a child and overhearing my parents talk about the "boy" you can see standing by the window and pointing him out. That scarred me for more than half of my life. I couldn't look out the car windows when we drove by cemeteries or open fields or dark roads. I literally closed my eyes and even plugged my ears til I was someplace familiar. I couldn't even enter homemade haunted houses or talk or hear anything even remotely related to ghosts. I think I overcame the fear once I found out not too long ago that the "boy" was a cardboard cutout of one of the actors they forgot to remove from the scene. Heh. I still refuse to watch that scene over though...
