Does anyone want to start a new religion? - a contemporary one?

I'm not saying its time to invent a new God or whatever (maybe it is?). I'm fed up with hearing the discussion of the present in the context of the past, like 2000 years ago people had a better understanding of the world today.

It has to be a religion without set belief, 'cause no-one should be excluded.
It should be founded on the principle of freedom, so long as your freedom does not interfere with other people's carrying out of that right (unless they allow you, or whatever).
(I'm gonna have to think of the basis for this religion later..)

I wanna see if the system works where religion is respected in the world, or if the socially accepted genesis of an 'actual' religion is temporally restricted to about 2000 or 3000 years ago (Which i personally think is BULLSHIT and elitist).

I think we need some ideas people! ('ideas people', not 'ideas, people')

HAHA! this is how i can be buried at sea..

Edit II:

"The BBC and Channel 4 are risking a Muslim backlash by showing 'blasphemous' cartoons of the prophet Mohammed that have caused outrage in the Islamic world."

Ok, I understand why people might get a little upset over a picture. People get really attached to these guys, but idealising over the representation of your chosen messiah is not the way to go. Note to the uninitiated - Jesus wasn't white. Hundreds of pictures of him are wrong, some might even say its racist - but where's the violence? kidnappings? chanting?... [no? are we past that? really!? awesome...]

Value today holds more than its worth.

Tradition should not take value away from progression. The world is full of fundamentalists - those who believe that there is a certain, ideal (fundamental) truth to life (just so long as you have the right tools/knowledge to see them) - and this makes them believe everyone else is wrong, with a passion.

I think what people should do is switch from ideals to ideas. To take a quote from an awesome cartoon..

"The world is the All, and I am the One"

now repeat..

(In other words.. you are part of a whole, not the personification of it - your 'unbiased opinion' is not as you see it)

I had some clearer thoughts on what I wanted to say today.

I have a real problem with the world today, there is no room for contemporary belief. The views that will always be widely acknowledged are those which have a large following (religion, society, politics). Take religion for example; people aren't wrong for believing in one - it is a positive concept. However, when religions become so big (World Religions) that their members believe that their thoughts are bigger and greater to the extent that for someone to put out a challenging view to them should result in public punishment of those who express this disagreement. The effects of 'that cartoon' saw not only the expression for punishment of the creator, but those who also showed it as an element of world news (and were thus either highlighting the audacity of the picture, or the extent of the Muslim reaction), and even the nation to which the creator belonged.

Belief is not wrong. Religion is based on belief, but so are other things. Yet, because some religions have been around for millenia they hold a special position in the world that eclipses the significance of contemporary thought. I don't believe that a book written outside of social memory should be used as guiding principals for modern life. It does this so much so that new thinkers cannot express without the fear of a backlash. A good example is the problem with religious jokes - they are just jokes, yet the significance of the religions they are talking about saw laws (laws, no less) created to prevent such expression. I'm not saying jokes should be the foundation of social values; I just believe that contemporary thought is suited to contemporary life, while tradition based on an unchanging written text, which can only be interpreted in so many ways, will only limit human potential.

"The entire Ænima CD will sync up with Tim Burton's movie "The Nightmare Before Christmas". Both the sound and many of the lyrics will correspond to the movements and actions of the movie as well as the actual story and "feeling" of each scene. To synch the CD up with the movie, first begin The Nightmare Before Christmas. The touchstone logo will appear, and as soon as the "lightning bolt" completely disappears start the CD. You will be able to tell if it is correctly synched fairly quickly, as soon as the ghosts appear on the tombstones you will see that their lip movements almost exactly reflect the songs lyrics."

SNK Boss Syndrome

"Dan has a move known as the Otoko Michi which parodies Akuma's Shun Goku Satsu. The Otoko Michi is performed by doing the command for the Shun Goku Satsu in reverse. However, unlike the Shun Goku Satsu, which can take off more than half of the opponent's lifebar, the Otoko Michi takes off a minimal amount of life from the opponent, but leaves Dan with only 1% of life. This move, unlike the Shun Goku Satsu, is considered highly unreliable and only used for humiliating an opponent. However, in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, it is the strongest single Hyper Combo in the game, and in SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom, it not only does considerable amount of damage when used, but he loses no life from perfoming it: this is due to the fact that it is his Exceed attack, all of which need a low amount of life remaining to become useable to begin with."

I found it dude!! - that crazy Dan attack!

our bodies contain traces of 500 chemical that did not exist in 1920. [12 Dec 2005|11:28am]

you know that thing called science? it fucks shit up no end.

Like the title quote from howies - in 85 years chemicals that are not natural have accumulated through the food chain and worked their way into the world system. This bioaccumulation happens because what you eat gets infected, and although it isn't a large amount, its not like your only just gonna eat that one is it? The more that is eaten, the more it accumulates..

just think, in a matter of centuries humanity has destroyed its natural ecosystem so we can be comfortable in our constructed environment, yet humans have been around for hundreds of millenia without leaving the slightest scar.

you cannot know the long-term effects of science without testing, and without that testing its not actually science (i.e. the study of visible and empirically measurable phenomena) - its theory. I don't particularly want to trust our planet to these people who think they have it all worked out through equations and estimations, that's what showed science to be a problem after the late 60's. New science through technological development aprés WWII - how could science do wrong in such a positivist environ? The long term effects weren't considered because they did not matter. They do now.

Evolution did not stop you know. We still adapt to our environment, but we construct that environment and thus we influence our evolution ReiCollapse ). Who thinks that humans know what they want and should have in life? Our dreams may show what we desire, but they would cease to be dreams if they were real RhysoCollapse ).

People at a certain point in time may know what they want, because at a certain point in time you will want something and that will be dictated by society and technology - and through time both change, and thus so do our desires. So what about the people after us? don't they deserve what they want? and what happens to creativity? if the world works towards a single goal, doesn't that undermine diversity?

If we continue working at a global scale to map out a path for our development, are we not destined to stagnate? either that or were going to become so specialised in creation for creations sake that a whole load of useless S.H.I.T. will be invented just to make us more comfortable, and so someone can make money. I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to try and make a living, i just think if your going to invent something it should solve a problem, not an inconvenience.

Dream Theater are awesome - cheesy as fuck - but AWESOME

Its like they brought together a monstrous drumming machine, 2 amazing musicians, a singer and a guy on a keyboard and what was spawned was just 'too good', hence cheesy-ness. I get they're feeling its a musicians band, and anyone who likes them for any other reason, well, is a bit crazy (sorry folks, i have an opinion for once)

i don't know why i felt the urge to put this in my journal though..
