#7 Tutorial

I'm on a roll.

For Photoshop; not translatable.
To get a nice colouring, your base should have a very little colour and contrast; otherwise the outcome might be ... bad :D

>>

Other icons made with the same/similar technique:

Take your base, duplicate it and set to Screen as many times as you need.
In this case I duplicated it two times, set both to Screen 100%.

Now you'll need to select the top Screen Layer and go to Image>>Adjustments>>Variations.
Press once the 'Original', then once the 'More Yellow', then the 'More Red', and again the 'More Yellow'.
Make sure that the little arrow is right in the middle between Fine and Coarse.
Confused? Look here.

>>

Go to Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >>Selective Color
Reds: C: -100; M: +100; Y: +100; B: +100
Yellows: C: -100; M: -30; Y: +100; B: +55
Neutrals: C: +28; M: +14; Y: -16; B: -10
Blacks: C: 0; M: 0; Y: 0; B: +100

>>

Again Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >>Selective Color
Reds: C: -100; M: +100; Y: +100; B: -10
Yellows: C: -100; M: +25; Y: +100; B: 0
Neutrals: C: +23; M: -5; Y: -22; B: -8

>>

Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Levels
RGB:
Input Levels:  10, 1.05, 255
Output Levels: 0, 255

RED:
Input Levels:  0, 1.00, 255
Output Levels: 0, 255

GREEN:
Input Levels:  6, 1.02, 255
Output Levels: 0, 255

BLUE:
Input Levels:  0, 1.02, 253
Output Levels: 0, 255

>>

Layer >> Flatted Image
Filter >> Sharpen >> Sharpen
Edit >> Fade Sharpen >> Opacity 25%
(You should definately experiment with this number.)

Next go to Filter >> Surface Blur, set Radius to 5 and Threshold to 5. And/or take blur tool and blur the sharpened and pixel-y areas, so skin looks clean and smooth.

>>

The very last touch - text 'so it begins', font NewsGoth Cn TL, size 14; and the little text brush.

And you are done.
