Previously in my life...

I spent New Year's Eve (or as we call it: Silvester) with my mom, my brother and my friend S. eating good food and playing board games. It was quite a lot of fun, even though I didn't win once. Boo! We watched Dinner for One, watched some fireworks and then we all went home. It was pretty nice.

The not so nice part was that I woke up with a cough, a runny nose and cramps. Meh. Since I worked between Christmas and New Year, I was able to take off the Friday and Monday after the New Year (January 6th is a public holiday here), so it kinda sucked that I had a cold the whole week I was home. At least I got to sleep in and I was able to watch Austria kick ass at ski jumping (Vierschanzentournee!!!). Yay!

I'm also quite enjoying the new WoW expansion that came out last November. It's really fun and the garrison stuff is pretty cool, although quite time consuming. However the Molten Core run I did was awful, it took ages and we wiped constantly. At least I got my Core Hound mount. It looks hilarious when my little gnome rides it. Heh.

I booked my flights for Fedcon in May and for the Queen + Adam Lambert concert in Frankfurt. So excited for it!

Previously in my life...

I did a two week long extra job, which was quite exhausting, but yay extra money! Basically, I worked 8 hours, got home and did the same job I do at work for 4 more hours. Kudos to all the people with two or more jobs, because, damn, that's really very exhausting! Also, you hardly have any free time anymore.

After having had long hair for a few years, I chopped it all of last week. Well, my hairdresser did the chopping and the styling and everything and it looks really good! Got so many compliments! (Although, it made me wonder if I really looked that awful with the long hair.)

I cried many happy tears when Conchita Wurst won the Eurovision Song Contest 2014! I never really thought that I'd actually ever see Austria win, but how awesome is Conchita? She's great and really beautiful and I've read and watched a lot of interviews and she's just incredibly sweet and charming. And I've been a fan since before she won the ESC, I thought it was great that we sent her! :)

Oh! The reason I'm actually writing this post is because, it's Fedcon time! I'm so excited, because Nichelle Nichols is one of the guests and I'm so, so looking forward to meet her! There are tons of other guests there as well, like Alexander Siddig and Amanda Tapping. It's gonna be a great con! Whee!
Also, spending time with mabiana, chani_atreides, novalee17 and padfootie! :D
On the downside, I have to get up ridiculously early for my flight tomorrow morning. Do not want!

The weekend after Fedcon I'm going to be in Vienna for Alpha Con, a Vampire Diaries and Teen Wolf con. Not that I've ever seen the Vampire Diaries...

The universe may not always play fair, but at least it's got a hell of a sense of humor.

It's been almost three weeks since the accident and I'm mostly fine. The knee and hip doesn't hurt at all anymore, but the ankle is still giving me trouble. Walking, climbing stairs up and down and some movements still hurt, but that's to be expected. Who knows how long that's gonna take, according to the doctor who saw me at the check up I shouldn't be so "impatient". Meh.

I've got an appointment with my attorney (well, the one that my insurance company assigned to my case) on Tuesday and let's see what they've got to say.

In the past couple months we've had quite a few game nights, which I'm really enjoying. I really love board games and I don't mind losing as long as we have a good time. Unfortunately, not everyone sees it like that. There have been a couple bad moments with people being sore losers and also the one couple tends to fight with each other while playing against each other. It can get a bit frustrating, but mostly it's fun times!

My friend S is really into the Print & Play games and the two of us have tried out a few of those. We've tried Gods, which was nice to play. Also Hive, which was really fun to play. But this one is probably not for someone who can't stand insects at all! There was another tile laying game we played, but I can't remember the name of it.

It's Oscar night and I've got tomorrow off so that I can watch the whole thing live. It's become kind of a tradition for me to do that, even though I haven't seen even half of the movies (or a third or a fourth) that are nominated.

But I finally got to see Gravity in 3D today! I've wanted to see it since it came out last year, but I never managed to see it and no one wanted to go with me. But then I found out that one cinema had an Oscar special today, where they showed all movies that are nominated for Best Picture. So, I went to see it and it really didn't disappoint! The 3D was fantastic and I really enjoyed the movie! :)

To try to be better is to be better.

- Pimping mfac, which is a fannish advent calendar run by saba1789. It's already the 10th year she's doing it and it's going to be awesome. Also, there will be a guest entry by me! The first door opened today!

- Last week I baked Vanillekipferl. It's pretty much the first time I baked anything since I was a teenager and had cooking classes in school. They turned out quite good, even my mom and brother liked them. :)

- I went Christmas shopping last week and I've bought all the presents! I'm mostly done with Christmas shopping. Yay! :)

- Woke up to the news that Paul Walker died. So sad. :(((

- Orlando Jones is a gift to fandom. ;D

Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think.

Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world.

* I haven't been on Tumblr in over a week and I don't really miss it much. At this point, I'm never going to catch up (not that I was ever able to catch up with Tumblr). To me it's only good for pretty pictures anyway. I hate reading stories or meta or anything else on it.

* It's been so incredibly hot here in the past few weeks and I hate it with a passion. To me anything over 20-25°C is awful. It has been over 30-35°C on a regular basis. Last week they recorded the hottest temperature in Austria ever, it was 39,9°C (luckily not where I am, but still). They expect to get close or break that sometime this week again.

I've never worn so many dresses and skirts like this year. And people keep being surprised to see me wear dresses and skirts! And they give me compliments! It's weird. On the other hand, some of those have an added "you're so brave wearing that". Newsflash; even fat people with flabby arms can wear dresses! And sometimes it even looks good! Who knew???

* I haven't read a (real) book in months! Instead I've been reading lots and lots of Teen Wolf fanfiction. Wohoo! Who needs books if they have Derek and Stiles pining for each other?

Over the years, I've come to the conclusion that a huge sign that I'm falling out of a fandom is the moment I start readings lots of books. Lots of books for me, because I'm probably never going to outgrow the slow reader thing.

So last year, I've been reading more books than usual: the year I fell out of Merlin fandom. Now, no books in sight: Hello there, Teen Wolf! Wohoo!

* Next weekend I'm going to visit mabiana and Sunday evening we're going to see Robbie Williams in concert! Wohoo! Can't wait! :D

space - the final frontier

Hope is necessary in every condition.

Thursday early in the morning, I managed to give my glasses a tiny push (while I was trying to turn off the alarm clock) and they fell off the night table. One of the glasses popped out of the frame. Meh.

Luckily I prefer to wear my contact lenses to work, so it wasn't a big problem. But when I'm home I usually wear my glasses (because I'm just too lazy to put the contacts during the weekend), so I had to get them fixed asap. After work, I went to my optician and while he was able to fix the glasses, he thought that it's probably only a temporary fix. The frames are old and not very stable and all. So, I thought, "what the hell" and picked out new frames!

And while I was there, we also did a check up on my contact lenses, which are already three years old (I have hard contact lenses) and I'm going to get a new pair of those too.

And because I've been such a loyal customer (25 years!) I got a rather big discount on the glasses! Yay! No discount on the contact lenses, but I don't really pay much for them anyway, because most of it is payed for by the insurance company.

I changed my cable provider package (which now includes TV, Internet, land line) and I got an additional channel package, which includes SyFy (stupid name). Even though I don't really watch much TV (on the actual TV), I just had to watch these past few days, because Star Trek! They air a couple episodes of Voyager and after that a couple episodes of TNG and wheeee! Happy Trek feelings! :D

And I already watched a crappy SyFy movie (Metal Tornado!), just because Lou Diamond Phillips was in it. I love him! <333

Cherish all your happy moments: they make a fine cushion for old age.

- It's my mom's 58th birthday today and we went out to have lunch at an Indian restaurant. It was my mom's and my brother's first time having Indian cuisine, but they both seemed to like it. There was also cake in the afternoon! Yay.

- It's also my LJ's 11th birthday. So yay for that! :D

- My friend S not only gave me Arrow to watch, but also all three seasons of Haven. I have now watched the first four episodes, I'm not quite sold yet, but it's interesting enough that I'll keep watching.

- I haven't finished a book since November. I totally blame Teen Wolf for that!

- Speaking of Teen Wolf... Tyler Hoechlin's face!!! His smile!!! I just... yeah. *flails*

- Oh, oh, Community is coming back on Thursday! I so can't wait! I've missed that show so much!

- I was feeling quite awful a couple weeks ago. Went to the doctor and said I had bad heartburn. Got meds and it's a bit better now. Well, I was feeling better this past week. In any case, I haven't slept as much as the week before where I just couldn't get enough sleep. Stupid body.

- Gregor Schlierenzauer won two ski flying competitions today and he's now at 48 victories, which is the most victories of any other ski jumper ever (the previous record was Matti Nykänen's 46 victories). He's only 23 years old. It blows my mind.

- The ski racing world championships start tomorrow. Wohoo!

The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

I'm too lazy to do the proper end of year meme, so I'm just going to mention a few things about Collapse )

Unlike last year, where I was home alone, I rang in the new year at a friends place. There was yummy food and cake and piggy muffins! We played games and watched the fireworks at midnight outside. Was back home at about 4 am or so. It was nice!

It's back to work tomorrow. I really, really don't want to.
princess leia (excellentnotion)

The heads of strong old age are beautiful beyond all grace of youth.

I think it's too early to be up on a Saturday after the world ended. I think we all deserve to sleep in until noon at least!

Yesterday was a good day. I had the day off (the only day I had off over Christmas/New Year) after the lady boss canceled my vacation days from January 2nd - 4th D:) and I had my Birthday lunch at the Running Sushi place. The food was really great.

And later that day, there was cake and alcohol! Yay. And there were presents! Wohoo! My brother gave me the entire Babylon 5 collection! And mom paid for my latest Tupperware order (yeah, I know Tupperware! ;)). I also got a lovely little London themed purse from mabiana!

Thanks everyone for the Birthday wishes yesterday! <333 *hugs you all*
lewis and hathaway (veradee - shareable)

If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough.

There were a few things that I wanted to write about, but then I never did (the story of my LJ/DW life!). Oh well.

* One of my co-workers retired and she invited us out to dinner at a nice restaurant, where the food was delicious and then a group of guys out on a Polterabend (stag night) crashed our dinner and flirted and gave us shots and stuff. They were pretty hilarious and the soon-to-be-someone's-husband wore a bee costume!!! Poor guy. ;)

After dinner a few of us went out to the Altstadt (old town), which is pretty much just one bar after the other. We went to one bar, which was tiny and filled with smoke (still coughing thinking about it, also we don't have a general no smoking law here, woe!). I had one drink and then I went home, because ugh. The others went on to another bar that was just as tiny and filled with smoke (which is why I went home).

* OMG! Flashpoint is back! I love that show even though it makes me cry a lot. I heard it was to be the last season of the show. :(((

* Yesterday, I finished levelling my 7th level cap character in WoW! It's a resto druid, a tauren girl. :) I levelled her in a pair with liriel_'s orc warlock, good team, and Li seemed to be quite in awe that she managed to get a warlock to 85. ;)

And now I'll enjoy my 7 level 85 toons for three days (!) before the next expansion comes out and they raise the level cap to 90. Heh.
