ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

You don't get anything clean without getting something else dirty.

I've got a bit of an Internet problem and I don't know what it is or how to fix it. But since LJ/DW people know everything, I'll ask here.

Ever since I came back from London, there are some websites that I can't reach. All the other websites work fine, but with some of them I get a time out most of the time. Sometimes I can reach them, but when I want to click further I get the time out again. Most notably this happens to all the Amazon sites (.de, .uk, .com).

I can reach Amazon just fine on my iPhone. My brother, who uses the same provider and lives pretty much next to me) can reach the site as well without any problems.

I've tried everything I can think of (deleting cookies/cache, ipconfig /flushdns, turning modem off), but nothing helps. And I have the problem in both FF and IE. I can't even ping any of the Amazon sites.

Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.

Anyone know why my Firefox doesn't like any imeem.com videos? I can watch videos from YouTube and other sites like that without a problem. But with imeem.com videos don't even load. There's just this round pulsing thingy in the middle, but nothing else happens. I can watch the imeem videos on IE without a problem.

Today's been kind of... exciting for everyone who has a Dreamhost account. They had a tiny (*coughs*) billing problem, but they're busy fixing the problem. My account has already been corrected. Yay.

Other than that there's nothing I can report. I've been feeling down in the last couple weeks, but it's already getting better. Hopefully.

Oh, and I wanted to pimp pic52, which is almost like the pic365 community, except that instead of posting a picture every day you just post one picture every week. Way easier for me to do. It's really fun.

This afternoon I did my laundry (very exciting!) and after about half an hour I realized that I'd forgotten to add the washing powder *headdesk*. I stopped the program, put in the washing powder, and started the whole thing again. Bah.

I got an email from my provider that they are upping the download and upload speeds again. Starting with November I'm going to have a max. download speed of 25.6 MBit/s. Wohoo!

A few comments on my TV watching:

I tried watching a few of the new shows, but I probably won't watch any of them again except for Moonlight, which I really like. Vampires are fun!
Chuck is fun, but not fun enough for me to keep watching. Journeyman is just boring. I wasn't impressed by Bionic Woman and Reaper either. I thought Pushing Daisies was cute and sweet, but just a bit too cute and too sweet for my taste.

Oh, and apparently they are going to start airing Psych on German TV. RTL, Tuesdays, 22:15.

Firefox was so very slow this morning! Scrolling through my friendslist was a no-go, because every few seconds Firefox would freeze for a few seconds until I could scroll again for a few seconds and so on. I had the same problem this afternoon and it took me a while until I finally had the bright idea to start Firefox in save mode. Of course, everything was working great in save mode, figured it was one of the extensions I'd installed. It's working fine again, but I still don't know for sure what extension the troublemaker was.

Not only is Firefox making trouble, people on and offline keep annoying me. I find myself wanting to defriend half my friendslist*, but of course I don't do it**. Instead I'm friending even more people. What the heck is wrong with me?

Since many people make a post when they trim their friendslist, I'm wondering if people actually want posts like that. I've never done a post like that, because I don't really see the point. Some people will always take it personally no matter what you tell them.

* Wouldn't it be great to have a defriend button for RL people? With one click they would disappear from my corner of the world. Yay.

** Because I'd feel very, very guilty. Really, what's wrong with me?!?

And now just a few impressions of TV shows I watched:

You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist.

This afternoon _sushi_ and I went to the fair that opened today (yesterday?) where we made a little trip on the Venturer Simulator (a space roller coaster trip), bought dried fruit (soooo yummy!), and just looked at all the stands that are pretty much the same like every time I go to the fair ;-).

On the way home we had ice cream, because it was a very sunny and warm day! And Sushi told me more about Prison Break than I ever wanted to know... and that was pretty much everything from season one and two ;-).

This morning I finally installed StumbleUpon for Firefox and wow, this thing is really, really addictive. It also amuses me to no end that I stumbled on one of ari_'s sites (this one in case you wonder).

Too much of a good thing is wonderful.

I have one email account where I usually get tons of spam. In the past week I haven't gotten a single spam email. I think I'm scared! No really, it's very eerie!

I started this big project that I call "getting rid of all the clutter I don't need anymore," which kept me pretty busy this past week and I'm not even close to done. So far I've managed to declutter the storage room, the anteroom, the bathroom, parts of the living room. Still have to do the rest of the living room, the kitchen, and the bedroom... those are going to take at least another week or two. What? I'm slow and I have lots and lots of stuff that I don't need anymore and what's worse, it takes a lot of time to decide if I should really get rid of it.

What I really need to do, though, is stop buying so much stuff that I don't use anyway. Too bad that most of those things are so shiny! By the way, anyone want any of these old Collapse )

My baby brother had his birthday last Thursday. He turned 29, which means that he's now just as old as I am (since I'm 29 + 1) and next year he's going to be older than me! Wohoo! ;-)

Oh, before I forget, the awesome kyuuketsukirui wrote me a SGA story. It's called Not Like Years Ago and it's so good. John and Rodney are teachers! :-)

If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.

Happy Birthday, claire! I wish you all the best! *hugs*

In the middle of last night my framed Robbie Williams poster fell off the wall! Wah! The poster wasn't damaged, but the glass was broken. The wall in the living room looks so bare without half naked Robbie on the wall. *pouts*

I've been using Firefox for a while now and it's really great, but there's one thing that just drives me crazy. I always have lots of tabs open, but I've noticed that Firefox seems to randomly close tabs. Most of the time it's just a couple tabs, but a few days ago it closed half of my open tabs! WTH? I need them! There were stories to read and posts to reply to and other stuff. Opera didn't have that problem.

Work was dreadful! So much to do and so very hot (we don't believe in a/c :-/), but now it's the weekend. A long weekend even. Yay :-D.

And tonight I'm going bowling again. It seems this bowling thing is a regular thing now.

Also, Coca-Cola Zero is of the awesome!

Life is a sexually transmitted disease.

A very Happy Birthday to sinden and temve! I wish you both all the best, lots of slashy stuff and everything you want for yourself! *hugs*

It's a sad, sad thing. I'm gonna miss you New Atlantis and your high res pictures. :-/

There was a fandom love meme in musesfool's journal here, which I totally missed, because I always miss cool stuff like that and for some reason they also always happen when I'm a) at work or b) asleep. *sigh* But luckily there's a continuation in roguewords' journal here. Love on!

I'm still finding my way into figuring out Firefox. There are a few things that I really miss about Opera. For instance that Opera jumped back to the last active tab after closing the current tab. Or that Opera would do the same when you just clicked on the current tab. I also miss having the links to all the tabs in the sidebar and I would love to have the sidebar on the right side and not the left. If this actually does work in Firefox, I haven't figured out how to do it yet.

I've installed several add-ons and extensions, which are very nice to have, especially the scripts for LJ. I also love the Coloring Tab one. Heh.

Yesterday, I deleted all the bookmarks in my del.icio.us account. I'm trying to figure out how to use it more effectively... or to use it at all. There aren't actually all that many sites that I bookmark, most of my regular sites are always open in my browser and/or I have the URLs memorized, the few that aren't are placed in the statusbar of my browser. Everything else I have in my bookmarks is just there and I always forget to check them out.

I tried to bookmark stories I liked or stories I wanted to read in del.icio.us, but after a while I didn't see the point in it anymore, because the stories I liked I saved to my hard drive and the ones I wanted to read were open in a browser tab (btw., I managed to reduce my open tabs from 115 to 68 this weekend, wohoo!).

Some people use it as a reccing tool, but then I have a recs journal, which I haven't used in about a year. Oops. I'm a very bad fan!

And now I go to clean out my car... *sniffs*.

First things first, but not necessarily in that order.

For some reason I decided to try out Firefox, even though I do love Opera a lot. So far, there are a few things that I love about Firefox, but also a few things that I really miss about Opera. So, I ask you friendslist, what is so great about Firefox and what are your most favorite extensions that you can not live without. Learn me.
