six's sexy legs

May I never miss a sunset or a rainbow because I am looking down.

I finally got my first two massages this past week and they were so good, but way too short! I got them early in the morning, which is really nice, but especially on Friday it made me drowsy as hell. And then I got a headache and for once I decided to leave work early. Hah!

For a little over a week now the fan of my graphics card has been very loud, especially when I first start the computer. Sometimes it quiets down again, but sometimes not. It's very disconcerting, but I tried to ignore it as much as possible. Well, until yesterday, because then the the monitor turned black twice while I was playing WoW. Rebooting the computer worked, but I couldn't play anymore. Woe!

Things like that always happen on the weekend! Because it was already so late, I couldn't go out and buy a new graphics card anymore. And of course, around here, stores are closed on Sundays. I will buy a new graphics card tomorrow after work with the help of my brother, who hopefully will also put it into my computer.

Of course, now that I know I can't play WoW, I really, really want to. Even though sometimes I go days without opening the game. DDD:

I just want it to work again! *whines* At least, I can do normal things on my computer without the graphics card overheating.

On the upside! I finally booked my flights for Fedcon! Whee!

And! Camp Sparkle is a go! Booked my flights and everything and this year we're going to Brighton! :D I can't wait to see everyone again!

Laughter is an instant vacation.

Wednesday it took me several tries to boot my computer, it made weird clicking noises, but it eventually did start and after it ran normally. Thursday, the booting process took ages and again with the clicking noises, but it only took one try to start. And then, over the course of yesterday and today, the clicking noises (which I assume came from the HD) got worse! Not only while booting, but also while the computer was running. D:

The whole thing freaked me out and because I sort of panicked (and because I'm lazy and didn't want to deal with some computer repair person) I went and bought a new computer. Yay?

I'm in the process of installing all the programs and moving files from my external HD (yay for regularly - once a week! - backing up my data). All the important programs (FF, Thunderbird, WoW) seem to work. :D

In other news, I started uploading some of my old fanfiction to AO3. Meep! Still scary! But I already got my first kudo and comment! (Thanks again, saba1789! <333)

Next week all the shows are coming back! Looking forward to a few, like Community! <333

You don't get anything clean without getting something else dirty.

I've got a bit of an Internet problem and I don't know what it is or how to fix it. But since LJ/DW people know everything, I'll ask here.

Ever since I came back from London, there are some websites that I can't reach. All the other websites work fine, but with some of them I get a time out most of the time. Sometimes I can reach them, but when I want to click further I get the time out again. Most notably this happens to all the Amazon sites (.de, .uk, .com).

I can reach Amazon just fine on my iPhone. My brother, who uses the same provider and lives pretty much next to me) can reach the site as well without any problems.

I've tried everything I can think of (deleting cookies/cache, ipconfig /flushdns, turning modem off), but nothing helps. And I have the problem in both FF and IE. I can't even ping any of the Amazon sites.

Happy Birthday, turps33! I wish you all the best! *hugs*

I got myself a new mouse! Yay! It's a Razer Deathadder, which feels really nice in my hand, much better than the spare mouse I used for the last couple days. I haven't played WoW with it yet, but it should be okay. And very importantly, it has a blue glowing mouse wheel! Awesome! :-D

Efficiency is intelligent laziness.

After postponing it several times, I've finally had my annual appraisal interview at work today. The lady boss seemed to be happy with my work in general and especially with me being her substitute. Which is good, yay!

In two months our department moves to new office rooms. I can't wait! The new office is really nice, quiet and there will be 4 people max per room. Right now, my desk is in the biggest room with 12 people. That really sucks and it's loud and yeah, I'm so looking forward to only sharing a room with three other people.

My mouse broke! Woe! And my spare mouse is weird and it doesn't fit as well in my hand than my old one and I really miss the extra mouse button for WoW playing purposes. I wonder if I should get myself a nice gaming mouse. Hmm.

ETA: And thanks _inbetween_ and elsmoka for the vgifts! ♥♥♥

Procrastination isn't the problem, it's the solution. So procrastinate now, don't put it off.

Last week my computer monitor died while I was playing WoW, which is not really the best of times for a monitor to stop working. Since then, I've used my brother's spare monitor. But today I bought a new monitor and it's so shiny! It's big and it's a widescreen and even better it's a touchscreen! It's the most awesomest thing ever! I can do things without touching my keyboard or my mouse!

Health-wise I'm feeling almost back to normal. My voice sounds almost like me again, there's just this persistent cough. Hope to get rid of it soon.

Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.

I was feeling pretty miserable on Monday. In the evening I took the temperature and I was actually surprised that I was running a fever (I very rarely get a fever). After some thinking, I sent the lady boss a text message that I wouldn't be able to go to work on Tuesday. Went to the family doctor early Tuesday morning, who wrote me a sick note for the rest of the week. Yay?

I've been home the last few days, still feeling miserable, coughing my lungs out, still running a bit of a fever, and all that other crap (head ache, sore throat, etc.). I read a bit, played a bit, slept a lot! But now I'm starting to get a bit bored.

Earlier today, I was playing WoW and was in the middle of running a dungeon, when all of a sudden my monitor decided to stop working. Monitor went black, I still heard the game, but I couldn't see anything anymore. Disconnected the modem, forcefully turned off the computer and called my brother to bring me his spare monitor. Good thing he still has a spare, but it's so much smaller than my monitor. At least I can see things again.

Everything passes. Everything changes. Just do what you think you should do.

Happy Birthday, thebratqueen! All the best! *hugs*

I'm slowly getting used to my new computer (so fast!) and Windows 7. I love the Aero Peek effects and I think I'm a tiny bit in love with the post it thingy. You can make notes and stick it on your desktop and they look like post it notes! Awesome!

And I figured out why I had problems with my backup/sync tool that I've used so far. Turns out that the trick is to use it as an administrator and then it works like a charm. \o/

In not so good news, one week after my computer died, my brother's computer died, too. :-( He now thinks of buying the same computer I have.

In better news, since it's December soon I want to pimp mfac! mfac is a multi-fannish advent calendar made by the awesome saba1789. Over the course of 24 days you will get pretty pictures, recs, icons, and more. It's really, really awesome and if you don't believe me you can go to the journal and see the entries from the last few years. ♥♥♥

And a reminder for the Christmas/winter holiday/New Year's cards: relevant post on LJ or on DW.

I have not lost my mind - it's backed up on disk somewhere.

Happy Birthday, lilysaid! I wish you all the best! *hugs*

After my computer died, I went out and bought a new one yesterday. Go me! It's a computer with a large harddrive and Windows 7, which will take quite some time to get used to after using XP for so long.

I liked XP! I new exactly where I could find things. It's really embarrassing how long it took for me to find the option to unhide the hidden folders. But after I found that, it was no problem to copy the Firefox and Thunderbird profile from my backup and voila, I've got most of it back.

Most of my programs seem to run fine under Windows 7. I also managed to copy the whole WoW folder and so far it seems to run fine with this computer. I just need to find a new and decent backup/sync program, because my old one doesn't seem to like Win7 all that much. :-/

Also, it was harder than I thought possible to change my wallpaper. Usually I'm not that much of a noob when it comes to computers. :-/

In any case, things seem to run fine so far with my shiny new black computer! \o/
life is banana

Reality is the leading cause of stress amongst those in touch with it.

My computer died a spectacular death today. I was about to watch the latest episode of Legend of the Seeker when the screen went white and I couldn't do anything anymore. I managed to turn the computer off, but it wouldn't turn on again.

My brother, who came by immediately bless him, tried a different monitor, opened up the computer and did some other stuff, but it seems to be deader than dead. Luckily for me, I made a backup on Friday. It already crashed on Friday, but I managed to turn it back on and make a backup, so all I lost are just the few things since Friday evening.

But still! :-/

I'm currently online with my old laptop that was still lying around on my living room floor since last year. The laptop of course is very out of date and slower than slow. But until I get a new computer, I have to make do.

But my brother and mother promised me that they would give me some money to pay for a new computer (it's the birthday and Christmas money from both of them). So, yay, for small favors.
