The language of fandom/fanfiction

Back when I really got into fanfiction, most of the stories I found were written in English (and that meant I had to get better at English if I wanted to read ;-). Over the years German fandom got bigger and there are quite a lot of stories written in German. I've read and written fanfiction in German, but I do prefer reading and writing (when I write) in English. Why? Because as strange as it sounds, it seems easier that way.

I watch most of my favorite TV shows in English. I couldn't read or write in German, because I don't even know some of the terms in German since I have no clue how they translated some of the stuff (they dub shows and movies over here). Sex scenes seem strangely unerotic in German... not that all sex scenes written in English are erotic ;-). And the selection of fanfiction written in English is so much larger and for some fandoms you don't even find fanfiction in German.

These are just some of the reasons why I prefer English to German when it comes to fanfiction, but I wonder how other non-native English speakers feel about it. Do you prefer reading/writing in English or in your mother tongue? Why?

Do you prefer to read fanfiction in

Do you prefer to write fanfiction in

What's your native language?

I'd love to hear about the why in the comments :-).

ETA: I think I should have added a "don't care" option. Oops. Sorry about that.
