Dear Yuletide Author

I can't quite believe it's Yuletide time again but apparently it is(!) so, welcome! I'm really looking forward to reading what you come up with, because I love Yuletide and these fandoms and characters/people.

I am astralis at AO3 and tallshipandstar at Tumblr, which is where I spend most of my fannish time these days. My Tumblr is mostly skating centric these days, which is more a reflection of how much there is of these fandoms on Tumblr and not my feelings about one over the other.

Generally, I love stories that fall somewhere on the spectrum between "fluff" and "angst" (how's that for vague?) and prefer a positive or happy ending. I'm a sucker for physical affection, platonic or otherwise - cuddling, bed-sharing, hand-holding, you name it. I also adore chosen and found family stories, friendship fic, and characters saving the day, or just making it through the day. I'd prefer it if the fic stayed away from rape, non-canonical character death, and graphic sex/violence, just because those aren't really my thing.

Thank you, Yuletide author! Whatever you end up writing, I really hope you enjoy it as much as I'm looking forward to reading it.

Dear Yuletide Writer

Dear Yuletide Writer, whoever you may be:

Hi!

And welcome! My Dear-Whatever-Fest-Writer letters tend to be a squee-fest of things I love, and I've decided to just run with it instead of trying to find other words than "love". I'm really looking forward to fic in any of these fandoms, because they just make me happy.

And now, the fandoms:

Dear rarewomen author

Dear Rarewomen author

Thank you for offering whichever fandom it was we matched on! Rarewomen is one of the highlights of the fannish year for me and I'm really looking forward to reading what you write. I'm pretty easy to please, but if you're looking for something more specific, here goes (and feel free to pick and choose!).

Generally, I love, love, love female friendship in all its forms, whether it's hanging out doing not much of anything or saving the world. I love happy-ish endings - where things might not be perfect, but they're good enough - or just plain old happily-ever-after (with an exception for Racetrack, because yeah. And possibly also Sonya). Graphic sex and violence isn't really my thing but I'm totally fine with some references/brief descriptions/what have you. I'm not a huge fan of AUs where the background world becomes entirely different, because one of the things I love about all my canons is that world. So coffee shop AUs etc aren't really my thing, but what-ifs or slightly altered worlds are awesome and interesting.

I am tallshipandstar at Tumblr.

Dear Yuletide Writer

Hi! Thank you for signing up to write one of these fandoms, because these fandoms are awesome and all of them make me inexplicably happy in various ways. I can't wait to read what you write.

*I'm pretty sure every second sentence in this letter includes the word "love", and I've decided to embrace it because I really do love these canons and I really would love so many different things you could write about.

What I love: friendship or mentoring relationships, especially between women; worldbuilding; fics dealing with identity, tough choices, chosen family or the concept of "home"; characters who knew each other as children meeting again as adults; missing moments from canon; cuddling and bed-sharing; relationships where things aren't perfect but both parties are really working on it and there's a sense of hope that they'll get there in the end.

What I'd rather not read (generally, or specifically for these fandoms): rape and character death are the big ones.

Dear Author - Fic Corner

Dear author

Welcome! And thank you for offering to write for one or more of these books, because these books are awesome and so are you.

If you already have something in mind for one these prompts, then by all means, write it. And if you don't, or if you'd like a little more guidance, then here's some stuff that I hope will help. In all cases I've requested my favourite characters; feel free to pick and choose among them and to throw in anyone else you like.

Generally: I think the highest rating I requested was Teen and Up, but if the story needs a higher rating, go for it. My tastes don't really lean towards graphic violence or porn for the sake of porn, but I also think sex scenes in particular can be used to illustrate a relationship between characters, if that makes any sense at all.

I'm tallshipandstar at Tumblr, although it tends to be fairly TV oriented.

Arctic Air, and the weirdly inconsistent writing thereof.

Because, really. I love this show. I love the female characters and the humour and the scenery and the planes and I ship Krista/Bobby like I haven't shipped anything for years.

But but but but. Season two, looked at as an arc, is... weird. They seem to have this odd recall for small things - Blake's first aid skills, Mel's use of the word "porking" to refer to his daughter's sex life (which he needs to stop doing right now, seriously) - but then they just seem to leap from plotline to plotline in a way that makes me feel like whole episodes - mostly to do with Bobby and Krista's relationship - have disappeared into the ether, never to be seen again.

Dear author

Hi! And welcome! And thank you! I'm really looking forward to this - I love all these ladies and can't wait to see what you come up with.

Generally, I love, love, love female friendship in all its forms, whether it's hanging out doing not much of anything or saving the world. I love happy-ish endings - where things might not be perfect, but they're good enough - or just plain old happily-ever-after (with an exception for Racetrack). I'm not a huge fan of AUs where the background world becomes entirely different, because one of the things I love about all my canons is that world. So coffee shop AUs etc aren't really my thing, but what-ifs or slightly altered worlds like we saw in SG-1/the Eureka timeline shift are awesome and interesting.

As I understand it, rarewomen matching works on a single character basis, so please don't feel like you have to include anyone other than whoever you matched on. I've mentioned ships in a few places just because I'd rather not see them broken up or the character in question paired with someone else but please don't feel you have to write ship fic. Gen is awesome, and all of these fandoms offer so many opportunities for it because there's so much to say about these women and their worlds.

Optional details are, of course, optional.

Anyway.
