Author's Notes: Just a little thing, set in the near future. Thank you to my darling newssodark for looking it over for me!
The thing is, they absolutely cannot keep their hands off each other. Give them a minute alone in a room together and they gravitate toward each other like magnets.
The heat rises quickly between them - it always has - so quickly it almost scares Luke. After waiting for what felt like forever with Noah, Luke and Reid almost had sex the first time they kissed each other. They sparked, right from the start. Hate, sparks, snark, sparks, understanding, sparks, lust, sparks, sacrifice, sparks, love, sparks, sparks, sparks.
One night, not long after they finally decided to give things a shot, Luke went over to Reid’s place for pizza and a movie. They pretended to watch the DVD for about five minutes before ignoring it in favor of getting to know the inside of each other’s mouths better. Reid’s hand slipped under Luke’s shirt as they kissed, stroking the skin on his back, then tugging at his shirt, trying to pull it off.
Luke pulled back. “Wait.”
Reid froze. “What’s wrong?”
“Uh,” Luke cleared his throat, embarrassed. “Can we slow down a little?”
“Okay. Sure.” Reid tilted his head. “What do you mean? Exactly?”
“I just, I’ve only ever been with Noah, and we were together for a while before we, you know,” he shrugged, a blush creeping up his neck.
“How long’s a while?” Reid asked, reaching out to grab a drink from his bottle of water on the coffee table.
“Almost two years.”
Reid choked, and Luke had to thump him on the back while he coughed and spluttered.
“God, you must think I’m such a stupid kid,” Luke said after Reid had regained his equilibrium.
“Well yeah,” Reid said, his voice sounding a little raw. “I always did but now I think you must be kind of insane too.”
Luke’s eyes widened comically and Reid cracked a smile. “I’m kidding, Luke,” he said, reaching out to cup his cheek, his thumb stroking gently across Luke’s cheekbone. “There’s no rush. I’m not going anywhere,” he reassured Luke, who exhaled in relief.
“You don’t expect us to wait two years though?” Reid asked, horrified.
Luke grinned and slapped Reid’s arm, leaning in to place a soft kiss on his mouth.
“No really,” Reid said when Luke pulled back. “You don’t, right?”
Luke just laughed.
Reid was a real trooper about it, backing off a little and making sure he didn’t get too handsy with Luke.
That was apparently a turn-on for Luke, and he jumped Reid’s bones less than two weeks later.
Even now, Luke’s still not entirely sure how they go from zero to a hundred so fast, but they do. One minute they’re kissing chastely and the next their shirts are off and their hands are down each other’s pants. Luke feels like he should be embarrassed about it, or something. Noah rarely initiated sex, and so often there was a reason for them not to do it; lack of privacy or yet another breakup or someone being kidnapped or shot or paralyzed... Luke figured that sex just wouldn’t be a huge part of their life, and he was okay with that.
Reid, on the other hand, can’t get enough. He touches Luke whenever he has a chance; energetically kissing him hello when he shows up at the apartment while Luke blushes under Katie’s amused gaze. When they’re out at Al’s or Java, Reid hooks his foot around Luke’s ankle, pulling their legs close to tangle together under the table. And Luke’s gotten so used to feeling Reid’s hand on his cheek that now he leans into the touch before it’s even made.
And sex with Reid is... amazing. Reid has no problem initiating sex. Any chance he gets. Luke doesn’t either.
It’s not that sex with Noah wasn’t good; it was, after they’d gotten past their early fumbling. It was loving and gentle. Sex with Reid can be like that, but it can also be rough and hard. And Luke loves it that way too. Reid never makes him feel embarrassed by that. He loves to make Luke lose control, to make him swear and to scratch and to leave bite marks.
And Luke gets a thrill knowing how much Reid loves it when he does that thing with his tongue. He loves knowing that a lick followed by a gentle nip to Reid’s right nipple will drive him crazy. He loves that Reid’s discovered all the places on his body that can make him groan and beg and shout, and that he’s found Reid’s places too. He loves that Reid takes as much pleasure in making Luke feel good as he does in getting off himself.
In the beginning, when he was first falling for Reid, Luke was cautious about going further. He was scared that he'd end up getting hurt, he worried about what his family would think of it all, and he was so used to mixed signals and endless drama with Noah that he didn’t know how to handle Reid’s straight-talking approach.
Luke’s not blind to Reid’s faults. He can be a jerk, his ego is enormous and he’s curt to the point of rudeness. But Luke also knows that Reid will always tell Luke exactly what he’s feeling. He’s never once had the doubts with Reid that he had with Noah - What’s he thinking? What’s he feeling? Does he really love me? Does he love me as much as I love him? Am I doing enough for him, am I being a good enough boyfriend?
Reid appreciates Luke in a way he’s never experienced before. He’s a little giddy with it.
Sometimes they’re just doing ordinary shit – watching TV or something – and Luke will feel like he’s about to burst with happiness. Sitting close to Reid, tucked protectively under his arm, he finds himself grinning like an idiot. He catches Reid’s eye and Reid will huff and roll his eyes, but he’ll pull Luke a little closer anyway and kiss him on the lips before turning his attention back to the screen.
Luke keeps waiting for it to wear off. To stop feeling like a teenager stupidly in love. He’s still waiting. But the weird thing is he’s never felt like more of a man.
