Cyclist and bike shop owner training for triathlon hit by car. Car stops, driver gets out, yells at her, runs over her again. She's was in a coma for nearly a month and has only started speaking yesterday, and speaks briefly like a stoned three-year-old. The DA refuses to press charges against the driver and apparently, that's just that.

"Last month, a dear friend of mine named Jan Morgan was hit while riding her bicycle training for an Ironman. It was a straight road (no turns or hills) and the sun could not have been in the driver's eyes. The car hit them from behind at full speed. At first glance you might think this was an accident. BUT Robbie Norton, the woman who hit Jan, got out of the car, looked at Jan, yelled at her for cycling in the road, got back in her car and ran Jan over again. There were multiple witnesses who stopped Robbie Norton by dragging her out of the car.

Reddit, the problem is, we've just learned they do not intend on pressing charges. Reason? The District Attorney, Forrest Allgood, says there are no laws in Mississippi to protect cyclists from this."

Infuriating. Unbelievable.

Trek 1.1.

Mind = absolutely blown to bits.
Ass = sore, but getting better.
Me = happier than I've been in a long, long time :D

So much to say, and most of it will be boring if you're not also an obsessed, addicted cyclist like I am. But some key points:

* My first serious road bike. Until now it's been MTBs and MTBs converted into hybrids.

* If riding a bike feels like flying, then riding a road bike feels like breaking the sound barrier a foot above the ground in a fighter jet aircraft.

* It's so unbelievably light that I giggle like a schoolgirl every time I lift it up, which I can do with one hand.

* The speed. OMG the speed. I don't know what I've been doing all this while not riding a road bike. 50 is the new 30.

* Addicted like never before. No turning back now, I'm done for :D

The Leopard Trek team announced it would leave the Giro d’Italia tonight, following the tragic death of Wouter Weylandt in a crash on stage 3.

"Leopard Trek was allowed to cross the line first in memory of their fallen teammate Wouter Weylandt. The team completed the neutralised fourth stage today, with the team's eight riders crossing the line, arm in arm ahead of the field, along with Weylandt's close friend Tyler Farrar of Garmin-Cervelo."

The stage was "neutralized," meaning everyone rode at a steady, uniform pace as opposed to competitive racing; each team took a turn leading the race, and all riders slowed and fell back to allow the Leopard Trek team to ride ahead and cross the line first, in tribute to their fallen teammate.

I'm pretty sure this doesn't happen in any other sport.

What name would you give to your car or bicycle, and why?

My bike's name is Phoenix, after the Egyptian mythological firebird that dies and is reborn from its own ashes. This represents a resurrection of once-dead dreams and life goals. Hopefully it won't be the only one.

If you had to give up swimming, skiing, hiking, or biking for the rest of your life, which would you choose, and why?

I don't swim, hike or ski. But I think I'd rather give up oxygen before giving up cycling. Just sayin'.

Just got back from my three-point ride (Delhi to Gurgaon to Faridabad to Delhi).

The plan was:
Ride from home to my fiancee's place for dinner
Ride from my fiancee's place to work in Gurgaon
The next morning, ride from work in Gurgaon to Faridabad to meet up with an old friend who I haven't seen in years, then ride back later that afternoon / evening.
