i know we southerners are used to hurricanes but, our lives are built for it. it's sad that some of y'all are poking fun at parts of the east coast. irene might "only" be a cat 3 but that will be devastating to nyc/nj, not to mention the entire eastern seaboard. have some heart. do we really forget that quickly? katrina/rita weren't that long ago. think about how that felt and show some compassion for what most are about to experience for the first time. :(

What is my perfect crime? I break into Tiffany’s at midnight. Do I go for the vault? No, I go for the chandelier, it’s priceless. As I’m taking it down, a woman catches me. She tells me to stop. It’s her father’s business; she’s Tiffany. I say no. We make love all night. In the morning the cops come, and I escape in one of their uniforms. I tell her to meet me in Mexico, but I go to Canada – I don’t trust her. Besides, I like the cold. Thirty years later, I get a postcard: I have a son, and he’s the chief of police. This is where the story gets interesting. I tell Tiffany to meet me in Paris, by the Trocadéro. She’s been waiting for me all these years, she’s never taken another lover. I don’t care. I don’t show up. I go to Berlin. That’s where I stashed the chandelier.

This stuff'? Oh. Okay. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select out, oh I don't know, that lumpy blue sweater, for instance, because you're trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise, it's not lapis, it's actually cerulean. You're also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar De La Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves St Laurent, wasn't it, who showed cerulean military jackets? I think we need a jacket here. And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of 8 different designers. Then it filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic casual corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and so it's sort of comical how you think that you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you're wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room... from a pile of stuff.

my sister finally had her baby last night (well, early this morning really). i cant believe she made it this far. he was only 2 weeks early.

she went to the hospital last night around 10. i got there around 11:30. her water broke on her own which we totally didnt think would happen. she started pushing at 2:35am. robert and i were in the room with her during the whole birthing process. it was the coolest thing i have ever seen. i had seen videos of a birth before but it is totally different when its happening in real time and you have an emotional connection to the people involved. so amazing to watch!

baby caden was born at about 4:35am and was 19.5 inches long, 6lbs and 12oz. he has my dad's nose and big feet. he is so precious.

anyway, i have been up for 24 hours now so i need to go take a nap. i just cant help it - i want to tell everybody the good news. :)

pictures later. i am about to pass out. thanks for the prayers over the last couple of months. it has been a rocky road but both mom and baby are doing well.

xoxo.

it is snowing in austin. sure its quite pathetic in comparison with my friendlies up north but i will take what i can get. some of the little ones in my apartment complex got their coats on and were throwing snowballs outside. i sat on my porch sipping hot chocolate and watched them for a while. it made me happy.

but now it is back to studying for finals. school is such a life ruiner sometimes. especially since i know the snow will be gone in the morning. bummer.
