Sherlock 4x02

I liked it more than the previous one.

  • I laughed at Miss Hudson's last I'm not your housekeeper.

  • Apparently, John's subconscious isn't that bad at reverse-engineering Sherlock's deductions when he cares to.

  • Sherlock's little but entirely true smile when John said Nobody is untouchable feels to me to be one of the foundations of their friendship, his genuine pleasure at seeing that side of him.

  • (paraphrasing from memory) "I'm not a malingerer." "You faked your death for two years!" "... Apart from that!"

  • It makes Doylean sense, and may even make Watsonian sense (*high fives himself*) but, Mary, if you think that the best way for a John traumatized by your death will be to get him back in Sherlock Holmes' orbit, then you have a rather questionable understanding of coping mechanisms, and/or you have decided that John not only "missed the war," but needs a steady dose of unpredictable sociopaths (loose term, I know) and dangerous situations to fully function. Because if you died then he's your daughter's sole living parent, and if you're a half-responsible parent, you'll only get him in the kind of danger that's inherent to being Sherlock Holmes' blogger, sidekick, emotional punching bag, enabler, main friend, and so on, if you think that's safer for him than moving to Toronto to work in some nice quiet Mycroft would monitor the hell out of, which would be the safe thing to do.
