Caveat Reader: I'm not in a good mood right now, and that led directly to writing this fic. It's a non-nice Leverage AU, and as Leverage is kind of fandom's comfort show, it's probably not really interesting even to fans of the show.

Title: Reverse Leverage
Fandom: Leverage AU.
Rating: PG18, just to be in the safe side.
Warnings: Probably doesn't induce happiness, so it's not really Leverage, I guess.

The bedside lamp exploded. Sophie kept her rhythm.

"Parker is feeling playful tonight, isn't she? Perhaps you should sniper-proof your window."

"That would only encourage her to upgrade her ordinance. This way she gets her fun shooting up my furniture whenever she gets bored."

"Is she really bored?" said Sophie, tracing the curve Nate's throat with two fingers. "Perhaps our little girl with the gun fetish likes to watch." She looked over her shoulder at the open window and smiled. "I think that's why Hardison lets Eliot do those things to him. It's kind of sweet, you know."

"Hardison is scared of Eliot."

"And you aren't?"

"His type of killer is methodical. As long as he gets what he wants, he will stick to the plans. It's the crazy ones I worry about."

Sophie's smile became wider, her movements more insistent. "You don't mean me, do you?"

"It depends. What personality is fucking me tonight?"

Sophie shook her head slowly. "I'm not telling."

"I can make you," said Nate, even, serious, and truthful. His eyes were as dead as always, and she remembered the web of threats, blackmail, bribes, and psychological manipulation through which he kept together this very profitable little crew of his.

It had all been terribly exciting ever since he left the FBI. Even the minority of her selves who wanted to kill him agreed on that.

I liked this, but am I detecting a theme in your fic writing?
Sep. 3rd, 2009 09:50 pm (UTC)

I have Themes, yes. And Issues. And a lot of time just a lazy imagination. If you see any pattern in what I write that you feel is veering from "consistency" into "predictability" or even "mania," please tell me, so I can work it out.

...yeah, OK, there is a not-so-small part of me that loves this team even more than the original. You're shocked, I know. :p

:D :D Very much so.

I'm just going to sit over here and pretend I didn't read this la-la-la. And, you know, not at all, ever, wonder what would happen if Leverage embraced sci-fi genre conventions and had the team encounter a mirror universe that looked just like this. Nope, not wondering. At all. Ever.

If I have nightmares, I'll cry. And it will be all your fault.

Oh my goodness. I <3 you so much. That's an awesome idea! *imagines Nate with a goatee*

Couldn't do it. We have Hardison on this team. He would take one look, recognize the mirror 'verse, and haul everyone's ass out of there. At warp speed.

Great point. It just goes to show, every team *needs* a Trekkie. Precisely for situations like this one.

I think Hardison would want to wait around just long enough to see which of the ladies' evil counterparts would be the obligatory bisexual dominatrix in black leather. Then he'd get them the hell out.

Bonus points of it's mirror!Nate or mirror!Eliot instead of one of the girls. Double bonus points if it's Hardison's evil twin who is the kinky one. Kinkier. Whatever.
Sep. 4th, 2009 06:27 pm (UTC)
*dies* Poor guy. That could totally happen to him.
Sep. 4th, 2009 06:38 pm (UTC)
And you know evil!Hardison is totally a narcissist, so he'd hit on regular Hardison. Parker would be thrilled--threesome with twins!--and everyone else would think it was hysterical, right up until evil!Hardison kidnapped Hardison and dressed him in fetish-gear and they had to go and save him from his evil self. Eliot would mock him forever. It would be adorable.

The Eliot/anti-Eliot showdown would be epic. Shades of the Two Live Crew Job, only they'd spend three hours staring at each other, smirk, and walk away.
Sep. 4th, 2009 01:58 am (UTC)
Oh, yes, that'd be cool. Although I don't think Eliot might want to let anti-Eliot walk away if he can avoid it. He strikes me as someone with a very developed sense of personal honor, and to see an anti-self like that must be very galling.
Sep. 4th, 2009 02:48 am (UTC)
True, but I could see anti-Eliot as having a highly developed personal code of honor as well. Just...an evil one. Sort of like Artemis Entreri. Very disciplined and methodical, disdaining "petty" crimes like rape and random torture, but willing to kill instantly and without pity. Alignment-wise, Eliot strikes me as strongly chaotic good. A lawful evil counterpart would work for him.

And if they were entirely evenly matched, a fight stalemate could be more harmful to them than not fighting, because then neither would be in any position to aid his team.
Sep. 4th, 2009 02:51 am (UTC)
True. I like the characterization in terms of alignments :).
Sep. 4th, 2009 03:40 am (UTC)
I see Eliot, Sophie, Parker, and Hardison starting off as chaotic neutral, with ex-lawful-now-neutral good Nate dragging them up the alignment scale to chaotic good. Seriously, if there ever was a fallen(ish) paladin, it's Nate.

Good point. If they ever do that episode not in a million years, there would have to be at least three fights.

(1) The Leverage team meets the anti-Leverage team for the first time and gets their collective ass handed to them because they're so freaked out. Winners: Anti-Leverage.

(2) Nate realizes that fighting their doubles is impossible, and sends each member to fight someone else's double. Unfortunately, anti-Nate had the same brainstorm and, through a comic series of misadventures and wrong time/wrong place, everyone ends up facing off with their own double anyway. Stalemate.

(3) The Leverage team sets a series of ambushes and goes all out in the craziest badass display of talent and dedication this season, with each member facing off against someone else's counterpart in five separate locations. Just as the anti-Leverage team recovers and starts to take the fight seriously, the Leverage team runs like hell, and the cops bust in and arrest anti-Leverage. Actual fights: Stalemates. Winners: Cops. Moral victory: Leverage.

Because, if our team is too crazy/good/badass to be beaten by anyone, then their doubles are too crazy/evil/badass to be beaten by anyone. So far, cheating is the only way to beat Leverage. Thus, cheating is the only way to beat anti-Leverage. And this way, anti-Leverage is available for another appearance after their inevitable jailbreak.

*approves* We need to steal ourselves an episode... and shoot this.

You be the mastermind. I'll be the amateur narratologist. I'm not really trained for anything else. :-D

Re: must ... not .. squee ...

I think they'd have lot of fun in the CSA universe. Or die very rapidly, I don't know.
