Non-notable Stuff

* Secret Warriors #6: Nick Fury has always struck me as one of the unappreciated masterminds of the Marvel U... right until it turned out Hydra has been messing with him for decades. I hope what's going on now leads to a satisfying payback.

* rivkat linked to a Youtube video of the table reading of the 13th Middleman episode!

* Got Apocalypse Hotel accepted for the January 2010 issue of Antipodean SF.

* Sent away the latest issue of Frontier Economy. Nothing of much note there.

If such a thing were not a dramatic storyline impossiblity, I'd like AIM to pull a double cross on their historic masters at HYDRA to be the ones to take Osbourne out of power, restoring SHIELD, saving the status quo, and creating a pseudo state in international waters with political immunity, and a wary detente with the UN, on the proviso that they submit their arms sales of super-science to approval of the Security Council.

This would create in one swift stroke massive storyline potential, pull superheroes out of their domestic contentious morass they've been stuck in for years now, and give the Marvel U USA a good old foreign terror.

Monica Rappacinni on CSPAN and BBC tempting engineers and scientists into a Faustian bargain in the South Pacific, promising total freedom and unlimited lab resources. Bio-reactors, zero-gravity labs, the ability to publish or protect as they choose, a new generation of superscientists, villains, and heroes growing up in the new wild west of AIM Science Ships and Space Stations. The world watching, silently preparing for what they know will someday run out of control, the more idealistic hoping that it won't.

New characters, new situations, new hopes, new fears. It could run the gamut from political thrillers to jumped up street crime to hard SF in space. The old guard, Doom, Richards, Fury, Magneto, Xavier, Stark, all trying to make sense of something too complicated to fit in one box, but too dangerous and promising to ignore.

That would be a fantastic development. And hell, Marvel has Genosha, and had Cable's island state, so it's not like it'd be completely unheard of.

yeah, the problem is that it's never really stuck in Canon. Genosha gets civil wars and mass hypnosis before finally just getting nuked offscreen. Cable loses his island nation after only really getting to interact with it in a few comic books.

It needs to be something with it's own gravity, that is a presence in the MU. Something stable, like Latveria, that's assumed to exist.

I'd like that. Ultra-tech in the Marvel U seems to be used primarily for weapons and such; it'd be great to see a small state use it pervasively.
