Robin 178

Leaving aside the fact that inter-title correlation between Bat-titles has gone to hell (with R.I.P. already ended in some titles and still ongoing on others), I quite like certain aspects of the current take on Robin. At some levels, he's what Bruce looking for in a replacement, particularly when it comes to looking the big picture of Gotham. Too bad that Batman probably misjudged the amount of chaos his absence would entail.

Anyway, in my mind looking for the "next Batman" is an strategic mistake. Recreating the persona forces people who aren't Bruce to think and operate in Bruce-shaped ways, which is suboptimal (and crazy-making). Batman was Batman because he was Bruce, and criminals might be stupid, but they'll *know* if there's somebody else behind the mask. It'd be far better for them to just keep their current personas and upgrade their scope and methods.

"...Bruce-shaped ways"

I don't know why, but that made me laugh out loud.

Probably the easiest way for me to write a novel would be if it were about the Bats :).

I'm nodding so hard my head might fall off.

Why is this so easy for fans to get, but apparently nearly impossible for the writers?

Probably it's all mandated from the top; the Batman name and looks is the "product", and they aren't going to drop that as long as it remains profitable (anyway, I'm about 95-99% sure that Bruce will be back, specially after the movies).
