Original Fic: The Happiness Gambit

They had promised not to kill him, but they could still give him riches, true love, a meaningful life. Whatever it took to distract him from writing the novel he didn't knew yet he was going to write.

Hey, if I don't write the novel currently trying to eat my brains, can I have all that riches and meaningful life and so forth?

Emphasis on the riches. I can buy a reasonable facsimile of the rest.

I have no idea of how The Powers That Be choose the novels they'll be afraid of, but if I can, I'll try to get you in.

And then spend lots of time goofing around in your mansion, trying to convince you to write the novel anyway.

I have a plot! And fleshed-out characters! And a title! And a *quote to reference*!

This doesn't *happen* to me!

(I am also plotting a feminist-friendly comic book zine. WHY AM I BEING PRODUCTIVE, WHY.)

*multiple yays*

I want to stomp on my villain's face and then reeducate him. I want to take my protagonist out for dinner and tell each other ghost stories.

That's awesome; makes me want to know more about them, of course *g*.

*rubs hands together, cackling*

My villain is that type who believes in that quiet, pervasive sort of sexism, and racism, and heterosexism, and generally a bunch of nasty poisonous principles wrapped up in a genuinely friendly, thoughtless person which makes me spit NAILS. He'd never call someone a feminazi. It would demean the Holocaust. But he'd tell a little joke about her sex life, how she'd be so much calmer if she could just find herself a nice man to give her an orgasm, and then be surprised and indignant when she was ticked, and call her nasty names to his friends later. He accidentally killed his son.

My protagonist is a practical, hardheaded black woman in her mid-twenties who likes jazz and Thai food and scholarly ghost stories. She plays basketball with her local YWCA and wanted to major in biochemistry and tells bawdy jokes. She also likes indie comics. Her favorite is Maus.

(Plots are mean, mean things. I try to avoid them as much as possible :P)

(We rather noticed, portraitfic master.)

Dear protagonist, please to tell me your name.
Sep. 18th, 2007 06:11 am (UTC)
Too bad Stephenson already used Hiro Protagonist (well, the first name would have to be changed).

Now that's *my* kind of conspiracy.

*starts writing novel in the hope of "they" coming after me*

*nods* Sounds like a good plan. A second-order gambit?
Sep. 25th, 2007 05:31 am (UTC)
Hee, I can't help but wonder if maybe their attempts to distract him are what what get him thinking about the novel in the first place.

Like a self-fulfilling prophecy, in a way - they know the novel's gonna be bad for them, so they try to stop him which is the only reason he gets the idea of the novel in the first place.

I am fond of this theory. *nods*
