Fic: A Matter of Record (PG13, Simon Spector, Prompt #25: Placebo Effect)

Title: A Matter of Record
Fandom: Simon Spector
Prompt: #25, Placebo Effect
Rating: PG13
Summary: Some things are non-negotiable in his line of work.
Word Count: A hundred.

Everything leaves electronic traces. Hack into systems and remove them.

The paper trail is time-consuming, but easy. Break in; replace with forgeries. Repeat as needed.

Memories are still left in witnesses' minds. There's surgery for that, and hypnosis, and if they are criminals anyway, the terminal erasing device is death itself.

History is based on semantic patterns on computers, papers, neurons. It can be tampered with. It can be changed.

"Don't worry. Everybody makes mistakes, son," a kind man who loved him had once told Simon.

"They must all believe I don't," answered to the mirror the sixteen year old boy.
