cass, can you not

He first departed, she a little tried// to live without him. Liked it not and died.

I'm reading Quaint Epitaphs, a nice 1895 collection of real epitaphs gathered by Susan Darling Safford. It's weird, wonderful, and at times touching.


Here lies a man never beat by a plan,
Straight was his aim and sure of his game,
Never was a lover but invented a revolver.


I don't have a comfortable relationship with neither the fact nor the concept of death, but this... There's something in the pathos behind these epitaphs that I think I do get.
