Five stories Lois Lane hasn't tried to file yet (toonverse version)

If he didn't want to tell her his "secret ID," then so be it. She just wished he'd come up with better excuses than "I forgot my recorder in the car" or "falling from the cliff gave me amnesia." It was one thing for him to play dumb, but this was forcing her to do the same, and it was galling.

* * *

One night she opened her eyes to see Lex standing in his briefs in front of the wide windows, looking down at Metropolis with naked, almost innocent love.

She doesn't think she can get Perry to believe her, though. She's not sure she believes it herself, most days.

* * *

Once, one of the Daily Planet's subeditors asked her if she didn't want to write a story on the psychological aftereffects of Army life on the children of high-ranking officers, being herself an army brat.

"There is none," she said, and left the room.

* * *

Weirdly enough, it wouldn't have been the first story she stumbled upon by returning to her hotel an hour too soon and ignoring a "Do not disturb" message in the doorknob. But publishing the note would have embarrassed Jimmy to no end, and besides, the Ambassador's aide wasn't really well-known enough to be worth it.

She's keeping the negatives, though. He looked like a bright guy, and some day he might *be* Ambassador... and she might want a couple of exclusives.

* * *

Newspapers usually keep on file -updated regularly- pre-written obituaries of well-known people. Lois has written, rewritten, memorized and destroyed both Luthor's and Clark's *truthful* obituaries.

She has the nagging premonition that they will need them both in the same day.

The obituaries get wicked points.

I can't believe it either.

Lois is quietly scary. I think in another universe, she, Barbara, and Bruce end up ruling the world.

That just...hurts.

Lois and Barbara working together... now *that*'s a thought.

1: Man, I bet that really does stick in her craw.

2: I'm not entirely sure I'd believe it either, but I believe it's possible.

3: Does he realize how near he came to having one of her pointy shoes implanted in his forehead?

4: Anything for an exclusive!

5: Man, that gave me total chills. She absolutely would know the true versions, the lies, and just how likely it would all go at once better than anyone else, even them, because she's close enough to know the truth, and far enough away to have some perspective. Dude.

Damn, what a pretty icon!

3: Does he realize how near he came to having one of her pointy shoes implanted in his forehead? *g* I made a subeditor say that, because Perry would never be that stupid.

*nods* For all of the love she and Clark have for each other, I'm not sure she thinks she is the most important person in Clark's life. Clark does, but then, Lois doesn't always trust his judgment in this kind of things. It's ok, though. She didn't stop being who she was when they got together, either. They just share the parts of themselves they can share, the ones that aren't consumed by their obsessions.

Heh. I'd love to read a mini on the Daily Planet from the inside. It must be a crazy place to work, even as newspapers go.

Why must you people make me start liking Lois.

And also, that last one is...wow. All of them are fantastic (I don't get the first) but last one...wow.

Thanks! #5 is my fav, too.

(I don't get the first) I'm playing with the idea that Lois figured out early on that Clark was Superman, but played dumb because, oddly enough, she felt that this wasn't her story to tell.

It doesn't have any canon support at all, and you'd have to tweak or play fast and loose with a lot of events, but I like to think it might be true.

So it's the complete AU of All Star Supes. ^___^

If you've not read it, Clark comes out and does the shirt-thing/I am Superman. And she believes that it's some crazy elaborate joke between Clark and Supes.

Poor guy.

No, I can see that. Lois is really smart (if you look at things realistically) and reporters tend to notice things like that. She's reputed to be one of the best, so I can definately see her using some Bruce-like reasoning. I'd love to see her reaction when the realization hits. She could be pouring herself coffee and just...freak out. Maybe she's in a cab and he flies overhead and seeing him, how his head is reflected in a window reminds her of--*BAM*--clarification hits her.

And that's really sweet, how you see her being quiet-like about it. I bet she'd want to scream it out sometimes, when Clark is talking with Perry or when Jimmy's raving about something Superman did while Clark is *RIGHT THERE*. I bet it makes her crazy, wanting to throw something and get everyone staring so she can finally, finally break the story.

But she loves him, and though it's the hardest thing in the world, she won't.

It's likely the love that makes it hard.

(Thx so much for the good thoughts you've planted.)

Thanks for sharing them! "All Star Superman" is one of my favorite current titles. The last one, #5, was both funny and very sad.

"That's some security system they have here..."

Mmm. Love for this story arc.

And where Lex is trying to instill Clark with Superman hate, using Lois' attentions.

I can't believe Lex had so much freedom in that prison, though.

OBITUARIES.

I. Oh oh oh. OBITUARIES.

I wasn't sure if the first one was Clark or Bruce. Leaning towards Clark, but still.

Oh, *Lex*.

Ahahahahahaha. Now you're making me have to write the anviltastic military bit of the Slade-and-Lois thing for which YOU ARE TO BLAME.

*hearts* I have nothing else for number four. Only hearts.

mosellegreen recced me your Superman fics and so I am here :)

I came because I was told you write Lex really well without slashing him, which is what I was looking for, but it turns out you write a brilliant Lois Lane, which is even better.

This is awesome, and I will be looking through more of your stories in the near future - I noticed you also write Dexter, so :D :D :D
