Reminds me of a videogame end-of-level screen. Resident Evil maybe, or the later Street Fighters.

Yeah. It does have that dynamic, too, doesn't it? You have to solve puzzles (write fics) until your "clear the level", so to speak.

Hmm, maybe there could be a dynamic version of the challenge where the available character/prompt combinations depend on what other people have done (maybe via automated semantic analysis of the ficlets), so the overall board grows like a cellular automata...

Darn it, now I want an "universal fic feed" you can subscribe to and run learning bayesian filters on, so eventually we get a personalized, automated fic rec system.

*hides half-assed system diagrams*

That would, indeed, be neat.

I'm thinking (and probably replicating in a cruder form your plans)

* If people tagged their fic with an specific tag (say, autoficrec), it'd be relatively easy to set up a system where they add their journals to the collection list. The system collects the journal items filtered by this, tries to be smart about cuts, links and fake cuts, and then uses the LJ API to download the fics.

* I dimly recall that there are already open source bayesian auto-digg kind of thingies with web interfaces. Shouldn't be difficult to feed it with the fics from above.

* Then people train the system and/or subscribe to their personalized feeds.

* ???

* Profit. (just kidding)

It's strange that LJ doesn't already provide something like this.

The thing I was (not) working on was actually quite different - inspired by my being unable to later find stories I read.

Although your version sounds simpler. If only I was actually working on something, instead on not, I might look into it...

Ooooh, a fanfiction cousin of Deesiyu?

We're going to need bigger computers.

Indeed. And that's only one of the possible benefits! :)

An anthropomorphic fanfiction tulpa isn't awesome enough? What more could there be? :D

Damn. Now I want mine for the Catwoman comics. *sigh*

Wooo! congrats! you did a titanic thing last weekend, and I still have no idea how you got around it. The fics, and then the feedback... Huzzah for the sparkling banner!
