Batman's voice was as close to hurt as she had ever heard it. "They can't be trusted. They - they took my mind away. You realized immediately, but that's not the point."
He closed the circuit panel he was working on and activated the system. A hundred holographic screens shimmered around Cassandra's field of vision. "They have to be controlled."
One by one, the screens started showing real time images of metahumans, both heroes and villains, captured by the cloaked satellites Batman had put in orbit during the last months.
As each image defined itself, Cassandras' mind began to read the body language of whoever was on its focus.
One metahuman. Five. Seven. Fifteen.
Batgirl felt a stab of pain through her temples. Too many. Too alien.
Without warning, just as she turned the hundreds of individual clues in somebody's movements into the sharp knowledge of it, the chaos of bodies in her mind became clear.
"They don't know," said Oracle, watching the world.
Batman put a hand over her shoulder. "Good."
