Halo Effect - Cassandra, PG13

Fandom: DC Comics
Title: Over your shoulder
Characters: Cassandra, Tim
Rating: PG13
Prompt: #15, Halo Effect
Word Count: About a hundred.
Spoilers: None
Warnings: None
Disclaimer: Don't own.
A/N: Extrapolates the events of Batman #654 (so, vaguely spoilery for the issue, although it's not an unreasonable AU if you haven't read the issue, either).

They look at him and think he is scared, vulnerable. Prey. A kid sitting at the head of the table, his girlfriend standing behind him as a security blanket. A twice-orphan to be pitied, perhaps, while they take away everything from him.

If she were somebody else, she would laugh at their shortsightedness. Even if she didn't live in the Manor -and under it- with him, it would only take her a glance to see the casually concealed precision in his movements, the quicksilver mind betrayed by minute eye movements.

He is far from scared. He is resolved. Grim. Almost empty. He will fight and win this battle as he will fight and win every other battle, day and night, until he, too, dies. He thinks there is nothing else for him.

She thinks that was the flaw in the previous one. She will not let that flaw kill him.

"Your father would be proud," she whispers in his ear. He starts to shrug, until he realizes which father she is referring to.

He smiles at her and presses her hand once. Everybody in the Wayne Enterprises boardroom table relaxes even more, still thinking "prey".

She steps back and makes herself comfortable to watch the carnage.

.finis.

Oh, Tim will so destroy these people. The Tim in my head would be sort of a Luthor-like bussinessman, much more ruthless and involved than Bruce apparently was (I don't think Bruce is careless about WI, but the Fop gets in th way). Still benevolent, but very dangerous.

That's awesome. You give Cassie a very mature voice, she's very Shiva here. I love it :)

Thanks! I'd love to see a grown up Tim playing the business game. Heck, I'd love to see Bruce do it, too - canon gives us precious little of that side of him.

This is an AU where Harv killed Bats, Robin killed Harv and Tim took over Wayne Enterprises?

And your grown-up Cass is pure Shiva. 10/10.

I had just thought "sometime in the future, Bruce dies and Tim inherits WE", but, yeah, that works too... (and by "works, too" I mean "eek, that'd bring Cass to his side and make him accept her, and also eek again").

As others said, somewhere Lady Shiva is smiling proudly at her daughter.

And Batman is smiling proudly at his son. (If that ghost can smile.)

*g* I do think they are smiling[1]. While treking through some Central Asian wasteland. Now and then, they bet about how much it'll take their sons to figure out they faked their deaths ir order to mumblemumblemumble[3].

[1] That is code for oracticing martial arts a lot[2].
[2] That is code for doing it like bunnies.
[3] Something underhanded to save to world from a danger nobody else has yet seen coming.[4]
[4] That's as close as they get to holidays.

I want to SEE this Tim. Desperately. And the kind of Cassandra that he'd have by his side. Business!Tim, OMG.

Oh, yes, I'd love to see him do this kind of work.

Have you read Smitty's WIP Bruce/Dinah series? It has a side track about Tim and Cass working for Wayne Enterprises that isn't Tim/Cass, except how it totally *is*, and it's also not so much about scary!Tim as about dorky!adorable!businessperson!Tim. It rocks a lot.

Okay, so I just finished reading this and aargh. It's so good! And you've made me all in love with business!Tim! And I really need more than 'about a hundred' words, because your business!Tim is so, so (scarily) appealing. Anyway, given that begging for sequels is kind of rude, I was wondering if you could give me a link for the series you mentioned? Because if I can't have scarey!businessperson!Tim, then I'll happily make do with a dose of adorkable!businessperson!Tim (I do love scarey!Tim to bits, but I can't deny that I love adorkable!Tim too, albeit in a totally different way).

All the Potatoverse stories are here. You probably don't wan't to miss:

And as an off-Potatoverse bonus, because it's perhaps *the* Tim/Cass story for me, and also because it's made of adorkable squee: The Romantic Machinations of Timmy the Elf Who Didn't Want to be a Dentist, and his Faithless Sidekick, Yukon Cassandra.

Yay! I just finished The Romantic Machinations of Timmy the Elf Who Didn't Want to be a Dentist, and his Faithless Sidekick, Yukon Cassandra, and pretty much died of the adorable. (It's the first fluffy christmas fic I've come across since I started poking around the DCU fandom (which admittedly was only a couple of months ago) which is awesome, because I have a secret thing for fluffy christmas fic. I have a whole load of links to Smallville -the fandom from whence I came- christmas fic hidden away in case I need emergency fluff, so yay! I can start building a set of christmassy DC links too!)
I haven't started on the Potatoverse yet, but it looks set to give me reading material to last quite a while ^__^ Thank you for the links! <3

This is great. I like how "other" Cass is - she doesn't think like 'normal' people - even by the Bats standards.

I wonder if she is actually Tim's girlfriend?

Thanks! That's one of the things about writing her -and Shiva- I find most difficult; she has her own way of looking at things, and sometimes it's harder to get in that place that it is for, say, Bruce or Tim.

I wonder if she is actually Tim's girlfriend?

I'm not sure. They could be a couple, be a couple but not have sex, have sex but not be a couple, or neither. Or even something else *g*.

If I had to hazard a guess, when she feels he is about to crack from the stress or from his grief, she beats the heck out of him while sparring, badly enough that he gets shifted out of his grim "have to be perfect or everybody dies" place for a while. *Then* they have sex. Sometimes in front of Steph's Case.

(Yes, I find that last bit very disturbing.)

Oooooooooh. Part of me is terrified for this empty, empty Tim, and the rest of me is vastly intrigued. Cass is *so* Shiva's Daughter here.

(No, seriously, a Tim with nothing else to lose, who fights and fights and fights because he doesn't have anything else left... dude, *eeek*, and also how dead is *Dick*? The remainder of the Titans? C'mon, even Hiro?)

Roll call: Bruce is dead, Dick - Dick is a good question. He probably would go to Tim, offerto be Batman, and then, if Tim feels he is old enough to take it -and Bruce left instructions in that regard- Tim would lie about feeling well, Dick wouldn't believe it, they might or might not have Bruce's funeral day sex, and then Dick would go back to Bludhaven. Maybe.

Thing is, a Tim taking over Bruce -at this stage- might be tempted to do it in Bruce's style, sealing Gotham from metahumans and cutting himself off somewhat from his friends outside (although keeping up of course the professional connections). I would hope he didn't -scary as Tim is, he can and does make friends- but the Titans Tomorrow experience might make him afraid of doing it.
