A/N: Some things you will always know.

He's fast, of course, and he's using the Cave's irregularities to maximize his cover. It'd mean nothing against the sensor grid, but he must have taken it down shortly after waking up in the med bunk. It'll take Nightwing fifteen minutes to restore it, and probably the same time for you to track him down.

In his current state, those are fifteen minutes you don't want to risk. Not all of the Cave defense systems are down, and there's a possibility that he might get hurt.

"Dick," you say.

He stops working on the Bat-computer and looks at you sharply. You nod. He takes off his domino and speaks aloud. "I know you can hear us, kid. You are frightened and confused, but you have to trust us. Trust me. We can help."

Silence. Nightwing lets a note of frustration into his voice. "Please."

The kid steps into the light from one of the possible hidden places you had considered. "What's going on?"

"You were hit by an biofrequency EMP blast. You were unconscious, so we took you here. We believe it also gave you short-term amnesia, which is why everything looks unfamiliar."

"Where is here?" He's clearly talking with Nightwing, but he's keeping his eyes focused on you. Good boy.

"You are in the Batcave. You are Robin." Dick smiles with pride.

Tim is looking at Dick, now, his eyes glued to him as if there were nothing else in the world to see.

You take the opportunity and shot him a tranq dart.

Never should've taken his eyes off of Batman. ;-)

Love it!

Too true *g*. And thanks!

Oh, TIM. Of course he'd be looking straight at Dick and thus totally miss the tranq. And I bet he was staring right at Dick's smile.

It's probably really hard not to (something Bruce was counting on, the bastard *g*).

I absolutely love this whole series you're working on... I had a ton of fun last night catching up on everything I'd missed. This one... damn, you just know that "Nightwing's charm" is one of the weapons that Bruce knows is in his arsenal, to be called upon when needed. Especially effective against starstruck Baby Birds... And it's very sad/creepy/impressive in the way that only Batman is that he knows it's something that Dick can do, and he himself can't.

Um, yeah. In a nutshell, I loved this. ;-)

*nods* I loved how, during Obsidian Age, he arranged him to lead the next JLA; he knew that Dick would be among the few heroes who could replace Superman in that role (and I'm impressed that he has such an unspoken influence/knowledge of/blackmail material on the cape community that, absent everybody else in the JLA and himself presumed dead, he can just say "the team will be such and such, the leader will be Nightwing", and everybody falls in line).

Oh, and *so* glad you are liking these ficlets! *g*

Ah, Batfamily.

And I can never fail to respond to Tim's responses to Dick. *grin*

*g* I know what you mean.

Dick smiles, Tim's brain leaks out of his ears. Good to know we can count on something! Well, us and Bruce, who absolutely and totally would depend on it. *imagines how different the whole 'Tower of Babel' thing would have gone if more protocols involved 'have N smile _____ into submission and tranq him/her'*

I think he learned that lesson, which is why he put him in charge of the JLA during the Obsidian Age (not that he doesn't have the abilities, but his near-metahuman people skills were surely a factor).

Very good point. And now I'm picturing them finding out that Dick actually had some sort of meta interpersonal power.

"Wait, lemme see if I got this straight -- your power is that you can make people like you? And each other?"
"Yes, Roy."
"That's it?"
"Yes, Roy."
"Nothing else?"
"That's it."
"Your power sucks, mano."
"It's kept you alive for how many years now? And through how many teams?"
"Huh. I take it back. Hey, want to hit the clubs?"
"I am not going to whammy some woman with my power just to get you laid."

"I am not going to whammy some woman with my power just to get you laid."

*laughs out loud* Of course Roy would ask.

This is crack of the best kind.

It could explain why Garth never drowned Roy for all the fish jokes over the years.

And Dick would totally see it coming, because, well, ROY.

Forgive my digression but it's just funny to me how Calculator said the exact same thing about Lex Luthor (of all people!) in Villains United: Infinite Crisis Special.

This series has been truly nifty. Interesting how some of the stories are in the same continuity and some are in really scary fuxx0r3d-up AUs like *prompt #9: sociopath* or *prompt #13: delusion* :)

I chalk it up to lack of foresight :D.
