Two major causes of depression which I am sharing with y'all who don't know like I didn't are a diet too rich in simple carbs like white bread and white rice (the latter, Filipinos like me...guilty guilty. We eat so much of that stuff it ain't funny), and a diet poor in folic acids and amino acids. Increasing your intake of these commonly found in multivitamins, steamed vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins like fish and raw nuts help immensely. So, here's to kicking depression's butt one day at a time! Breakfast: steamed organic mustard greens, cabbage, zucchini, basil, and garlic chives. Flax seed, and grilled fish with the skin on for extra omega-3. Peace and love!

Left: Children of Afghanistan refugees tell the horrors of war their parents survived. Right: US military veterans, listen and try to forget their time in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Eastern Europe. One veteran is so overcome with emotion, he begins to cry.

Lately my work has been more about the people in Chicago working towards community organizing efforts in the face of the social injustices they encounter and passionately feel for on a daily basis. More specifically, my work has been focusing on the mental health crisis in Chicago, which is an ongoing project. So it is no wonder last night this focus is affecting other subjects I have been photographing. This body of work encompasses strictly some of the emotions experienced during an underground rock show.

When I have shot concerts in the past, I have always focused on the bands themselves. But last night, I decided to feel the energy and movement of the crowd at this Pitchfork after party in Chicago, to try and imagine what the bands must see. After all, if the crowd isn't feeling it, then everything else is thrown off. It can affect not only how the band performs onstage, but how they interact with each other and the public after.

Ils me suivant.
