ugh. and Iryu \o/ \o/

1. Annoying uni students who make mountains out of molehills: SUCK IT UP. Stop whining. Move on.
2. Annoying uni students who disrespect guest speakers/APPLAUD people for doing just that:
wow, are you for real.
I hated it when my JC classmates acted like they owned the world/knew everything about it;
this is exactly the same thing - but with older kids who should know better.

I was talking to S about this the other day -
I don't know if it has something to do with my being a year older than the rest of the cohort
(well, at least the majority of it),
or if it's just my personality (l-lol, I wouldn't be surprised),
but sometimes I feel as if uni students have a TON of growing up to do.
(Or maybe excessive alcohol intake has stunted their PFC development. D:)

Just finished ep 8,
and while I did say earlier that I found Doctors' Sagara's streetsmarts/ability to work within the system refreshing,
there's also something terrifically badass about
the traditional maverick (ikr, how ironic) with the nerves of steel
who unabashedly shakes things up wherever he goes
and essentially barrels through layers of bureaucracy to flip off the Evil Top Brass.
Iryu plays the device up to its full potential,
and while I laughed - quite literally - at some of the over-earnest attempts at epicness
(e.g. Asada operating with the blue flames around him in the warzone
[okay, so I just started giggling again - this will never get old];
shirtless Asada [appreciated, but unnecessary O.o] image-training with smoke wafting around him;
I am thoroughly enjoying the drama.
Exciting surgery scenes and helpful diagrammatic explanations (so cute, right! <3),
Ijyuuin's growth, KATO's growth,
the way the whole thing is framed by the formation of the Batista team
such that the enterprise feels less episodic than it would be otherwise.
And rock-solid scripting/acting -
I particularly like how the moments of emotion - while few - ring so true.
Far less lighthearted than Doctors, but an equally-wonderful ride.

ALSO: I adore Abe Sadao's face (those eyes ;__;). It's so interesting to look at.

EDIT: Finished Iryu and it is utter nail-biting <3, seriously.
Though they had to attribute a ridiculously-high level of skill to Asada to make things work out. :(
And the Kirishima twist was obviously there purely for the will-he-won't-he-HE-WILL drama :(
And those last few oversentimental goodbye scenes spoilt the finale.

There's the snazzy Kashii Yu one,
then the Takei Emi X Eguchi Yosuke romance,
and Nakama Yukie/Sawamura Ikki
and that Higashino Keigo series. :D
And Tabe Mikako! And Ashida Mana!
So much potential goodness.

AFTERSCHOOL's Slow Love is awfully pretty.
So is the single cover. :):)

This makes me feel so hopeful.
It's lovely to see visibility/influence being directed towards a good cause,
even if it's partially self-serving,
and I hope that more will step forward - not just in the UK but in Singapore too.
Someone needs to make the first move.

BEAST's Fiction and On Rainy Days
are officially on iTunes repeat.
<333 everything, from the lyrics to the music to the song concepts.
So. Good.
WGM got me into Kpop, the music makes me stay. xD

I sadface because any drama would be better than no drama.

just for that little segment
in which Ohno gets to collaborate with the genius illustrator
(show's words, not mine. Not Sho's either, hahahaha. Okay.).
And the end product was so cool.
This was like the see,-we're-keeping-the-boys-happy episode
because Nino got to play the guitar as well, heh.
But, seriously, they should play to the boys' interests more.
Stick more cooks in,
put a golfer on,
get more of Nino's hordes of older friends to make cameos,
ask Verbal-san to be the aniki of the week, etc etc.

Also, the Matsuda Shota drama sounds interesting!
Might watch it for Shota/plot despite the ominous fact that
Death Note guy is scriptwriting (><).

If one thing has changed since I entered fandom,
it might be how I now count computer usage in megabytes and gigabytes
instead of kilobytes. O.o

The latest JE hate meme has been a highly useful source of information!
I now know that Subbers D and N are to be avoided,
that primrosegallery has written more Arashi fic than I've read,
and that KAT-TUN is one step closer to a breakup.

Am at work now,
and heartily sick of lit review-ing.
Relaxing a bit here before getting back to what I'm supposed to be doing. O.o

Work is more tiring than I expected it to be.
It's frustrating: after reaching home,
I just have time to catch up on Arashi news (and eat dinner)
and do a little more before crashing.
I need to get used to the routine - QUICKLY.
(Should probably have taken up something
with more flexible working hours.
Oh well.)

And BLEHH I still have those dratted UW essays to complete (three more).

I want to watch Ryusei No Kizuna
and Maou
and Last Friends. ><

Got to see Sherlock Holmes and Avatar
and both were incredibly satisfying.
SH was hilarious (and exactly what I'd imagined it to be),
and although Avatar played out like a latter-day new-age Pocahontas
and the ending could be spotted a mile away,
the sets were stunning.
I have NEVER, EVER seen such cool!animals.
(Four-eyed bird-dragons + murderous rhinos + pretty horses, woot.
And those bonds that natives can create with their animals
using their hair.)

So Jie got her First Class Honours,
and, as always, it's bittersweet.
I'm happy for Jie -
yet it's one more of those standards
I can only hope to match up to.

The tragedy of my life.

I want Be Thou My Vision to be played at my funeral.
It's The Hymn for me -
the one that I can practically memorise
(Mom says she sang it to Jie and me when she was pregnant),
that brings me near/to tears every time we sing it in church.
It's just lovely -
there's no other word for it.
Such a poignant reminder of how we ought to live,
and the beauty of GOD's love.

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee, Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle shield, sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s shelter, Thou my high tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, after victory won,
May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

I think religion is a great comfort.
The thought that I don't just terminate when I die,
that GOD is the 'strength of my heart, and my portion forever',
that He is in control and I am part of his Plan,
no matter the circumstances.

That GOD is the Alpha and the Omega,
the beginning and the end
(you know, I only recently grasped
the enormity of that oft-quoted statement:
that He has been since the start of Time,
and will be there when all else has faded),
but even in all His omnipotence and power cares for each puny human being.
Isn't that a humbling thought?

I've just finished Galileo,
which brings the list of Jdramas I've watched
to a respectable 11
(which Nobuta remains at the top of).

Next on the list: Code Blue,
then possibly Ryusei no Kizuna and the rest of Liar Game
(haha, just realised that all three have Toda Erika)
and Nodame.
Then - if I'm feeling up to it, since it's apparently pretty draining -
Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi.

So much to do and so little time. xD
