Sexuality in the Buffy!Verse
Ok, I guess everyone knows by now that is Joss can get the funding and actors on board, he would sell out the comics in an instant. So canon? Not so much so. Then with what has gone on before in the Buffy!Verse, and the comics is there anything we can draw for the sexuality of the characters in the Buffy!Verse? Just my rambling thoughts.

The first gay character we meet in the Buffy!Verse is Larry. Very much a background character, and at first uncomfortable with his sexuality. It really hardly made any waves or effected the core Scoobies very much.

Now whither you accept that Willow was Gay, or Bi is up to you. I will not get into that. She had a crush on Xander, and a relationship with Oz. Then met her soulmate in Tara, and came out as Gay. They then introduced Kennedy. The only item is that both Tara and Kennedy knew from a young age that they were gay. But maybe Willow was confused when she was young.

Now they have Buffy and Satsu. Could be argued that Buffy is experimenting, Bi-curious or Bi. But yet another lead female character is embarking on a relationship with another woman. There were rumors they were going to make Xander gay, then decided on Willow, they play with Spangel, but that is all. Apart from the Intimate one time comment from Spike (which could mean that Angelus got drunk and started telling William the Bloody his most intimate secrets), that is all.

Then Vampires are, for me, different. They are preditors, who would use any means to entrice their prey. Human sexuality doesn't enter into it!

For me, most of the writers were male, Joss was in charge, and that is a well known male fantasy. Two women. Ok in the comics, there are not that many men. Andrew, Giles and Xander.....but they could've introduced some male characters if they wanted. Yes, we have 500 female slayers, but they have also introduced back up. Some of them could be male. But no, the back up is female too.

So not holding my breath for a Spring Autumn relationship between Faith and Giles (I think it could work, they have a dark side that could draw each other, and be interesting), because they have de-sexisied Giles for years now. Despite how sexy ASH is. Ageist I think.

Will stop rambling now!

I think it's pretty much accepted that Andrew is gay even though they've never directly said it. He appeared on a list of the best gay guys in sci-fi/fantasy

I still maintain that the only reason they had Buffy sleep with Satsu is because the writers thought it would be hot. Really, it makes no sense for the character otherwise

Yes, which takes us back to the male fantasy! Think it says more about the writers than the chracters myself!

Definitely!! Although I would have had less of a problem if Buffy had slept with Faith. They, at least, had some chemistry together.

Yes, and also for a character that is so important, she should've had someone with the same "flesh and blood" aspect as herself. Giving her a relationship with a comic character just isn't working for me!

Yeah, especially one we know so little about.

I'm trying to be so careful in how I respond to any of the Buffy/Satus topics!

With that being said...

I was having a hard time thinking the comics as canon, but as soon as 'you know what' happened the decision was made. Not canon. I'm sorry, but the TV Buffy wouldn't do with Comic Buffy did. Especially not so quickly! Yeah, they played with the Buffy/Faith thing a smidge in the show. A smidge so small you could miss it if you weren't watching close enough. IMO the shock factor is what they were going for and that's what they go - I think.

In regards to vampires and sexuality? When you're around over 200 years you're going to swing whatever way you want to swing to stop the boredom! Vampires and sex go together like peanut butter and jelly! I have no issues thinking that Spike and Angel have been intimate. Fanged Four had a lot of adventures together. Thinking that Angel and Spike haven't been together in that way is just crazy talk *g*

Yes, I still think this says more about the writers (and Joss), than the characters to be honest.

Yes, vampires would do a lot over the long time in their (un)life!

Andrew is pretty clearly gay too, though I admit it is played more for comedy than for drama. And yes, I think they've gone out of their way to desexify Giles.

Oh yes, I do think it was so unfair to Giles!

Joss and crew do seem to have the "girl on girl action is hot" while with the guys it seems to be "it's played for laughs." Joss even commented that he knows about the one time, it was funny and he's never telling. *rolls eyes*

Andrew is pretty much a joke and if not gay has to be bi (I think he's in denial.)

Giles I think was more...umm...he branched out more in his younger days. I refuse to believe that him and Ethan never did it. I mean come on, I thought they had sexual tension even before I started reading slash.

Spangel: It had to be more than one time, one decade maybe, but I think only once did they connect on a deeper level with sex. Maybe Angel(us) made Spike feel special.

Actually it's funny but I was on the fence about ATF being canon and gave up after last issue. BTVS 8 never was to me. As far as I'm concerned Buffy is dating the Immortal, shopping and hanging out with normal sized Dawn. Warren is still dead, Ethan is still alive (to cause more chaos and lust for Giles) and NONE of them trust Angel. Why? Because it was never said that she did, and I'm sick of clueless Buffy.

Yes, pretty much dismissed them as canon myself. Both of them. I think they are going out of their way to appeal to the fanboys, and forgetting the core group of girls (woman), who are here.

Yes, gay males are played for laughs, and that is a sad reflection on the writers and Joss. I am getting increasingly disheartened!

I know, Joss is forgetting his women fans and doing fanservice for the guys and himself (Fred is his favorite Angel character.)

I read a few comments from gay men wanting gay males to be written, and Andrew doesn't cut it for some of them because: a.) he's not actually out, b.) he's a joke of a character. It just feels like Joss is sending out the wrong messages with the Scoobies not caring/repeating their bad actions, the guy/guy stuff being played for jokes and don't even get me started on what the message was for what he did to Cordy. >_< You're right it does case a sad reflection on the writers and Joss.

I do not like Joss' treatment of gay males on Buffy at all. He has the whole soulmates with Willow and Tara, but no great love with male/male. I do think it is something that he is uncomfortable with, or the media is uncomfortable with. It saddens me!

God, I would love that! It'd be far more interesting than Buffy/Satsu. However, Joss won't do it because he knows how much the fanboys like Faith and their little heads would explode if she had a Thing with someone as old as their dads.

I think it would be a really interesting relationship, but, of course, the fanboys come first. Alas.

faith giles could be really good. I think everyone in the verse is bi - mostly because I want to write them with everyone *evil grin*

Oh yes, if they are Bi, then we can have a free-fork-all! *eg*
