What does it take to inspire the Fanfic Muse?
Been thinking about this since yesterday. My muse loved BtVS, AtS and BtVS/AtS crossovers. The Buffy!Verse just had my muse jumping at the bit to write. She wanted to explore the Fanged Four, Spangel (post soul, pre soul, post Shanshu everything), vampire and human relationships, both shippy and non shippy, family relationships (genetic, vampire, close friends). There was so much that she could get her teeth into and explore. No other fandom has done that since.

Supernatural is basically about two brothers. Even when they brought in another regular, it was another guy. Bobby is the only recurring character who we have a bit of depth to. The others just showed up a few times. There is no fleshing out of the female characters. Yes there are some, but not a lot of canon to work with, and mostly have been killed off. It is too male oriented really, and, because I don't see Wincest, the shippy relationships are difficult. While I do like some Sam/Jess or Sam/Sarah, there is not a lot of it about. I'm hoping the rare pairing big bang will give me some.

Doctor Who/Torchwood. With the exception of Jack, who cannot die anyway, everyone either dies or with the companions, leaves far to quickly. There is no time for character development before Bang they are dead. It makes you wonder if there is any point in becoming invested in the characters if the creater isn't invested in giving them background, ambition, a future.

Now, with Leverage I see real possiblities. Five regular characters, who are given character development (not on the scale of the Buffy!Verse, but we are only just airing season three just now), recurring characters who don't die, and we are given enough information on to write something for them. I may even have a little plot bunny for Eliot/Amiee pre series (no don't die of shock that I'm considering het). Eliot has enough people interested in him, he could have his own community. It is not Sci-Fi or fantasy, but that has never stopped fanfic writers from introducing them. And of course Eliot/Lindsey could bring in those elements (but not really been sold on that sort of fic myself, makes me a touch uncomfortable).

Yes, I can see possiblities with Leverage.

Note There is an opening if anyone wanted to creat an eliot_spencer community. Just saying....I would join. Lots of Eliot fic, art and discussions. It would be great. Just saying!

Oh that is great. I don't think I will get many comments, but good to know that there is some interest.

Hi,

I am thinking of making a post about it, stemming from the fact that my recent fic stemmed from the events at the end of Cold Blood in the most recent Dr. Who series. There was only a few eps to establish that 'ship in my head, but it is there; as firmly as Willow & Tara were after two and a bit seasons.

I had meant to comment, but RL has been so ruddy stressed out, ya know? So, sorry for not commenting before.

Anyway, if you can see something, it doesn't need the creators to spend as eason to establish them. After all, there were Willow & Tara fics being written within days of Hush being broadcast in the States.

Maybe, if we ever get the time, you can show me a few clips of Leverage. Still, worringly unsure whether I'll be able to face up to Pride on Saturday, but with all this writing I'm being able to do, there's more hope than there was when Edinburgh pride came around.

Oh, and mucho gracias on the helpful thoughts on my Tara/Buffy/Faith plotbunny.

Still under Willow & Tara's spell,
Ray.

David will be over tomorrow, so just need to sort some stuff out with him for Saturday. So far it is looking good, just let me know if you are going, and where we could meet. Georgie Square sounds about best at present.

Only to glad to help.
