... and here's the spoilerrific part of Katee's chat. Much of it is old news, but she dropped some very cool hints about what might be in store for Starbuck.



Q: tell us what you know about Starbuck's mysterious death and RETURN
Katee Sackhoff: I have no idea what Starbuck is. I know that she is not imaginary, but could be a Cylon. I was told Starbuck wasn't going to be a Cylon. but with BSG you never know. I mean, they killed me!!!!


Q: Katee...What exactly will 'Razor' entail, since it's going to count as 2 episodes against BSG's 22-ep season 4 order?
Katee Sackhoff: Razor is all about Pegasus
Katee Sackhoff: It will show what happened on the Pegasus before they met up with Galactica


Q: What about "Razor"?
Katee Sackhoff: In Razor, I'm in like maybe a quarter of it
Q: more than just a cameo?
Katee Sackhoff: There is a gay storyline
Katee Sackhoff: But they are saying that it's all up to people's speculation.
Katee Sackhoff: I think it's about time
Katee Sackhoff: You guys know too much already
Q: Katee, it's all your fault, 'cause you and Michelle Forbes had such chemistry...
Katee Sackhoff: I swear I'm not going to be making out with Michelle


Katee Sackhoff: there will be a lot more of Leoben and Starbuck
Katee Sackhoff: I don't know which [version of] Leoben it would be.


Q: You and Mary McDonnell have had a couple great moments together, but not lately. Will we see you two interact at all this year?
Katee Sackhoff: Mary and I do have interaction. I can't promise it will be all good though


Q: Do the President and Starbuck compete over who will lead the fleet?
Katee Sackhoff: I think Kara is sorta going off on her own this year.
Katee Sackhoff: Yes there is competition between Kara and Roslin.
Q: Katee, you may have Roslin on youth, but she's got that airlock thing...
Katee Sackhoff: I don't know if she knows very funny. she may even try to airlock me in this season


Q: pegasus really made me wish the cylons would nuke the hell out of the fleet
Katee Sackhoff: Wait 'til you see razor. You may think that again.


Q: whoever's the 5th cylon must be having a hard time keeping it a secret from everyone else...assuming he/she knows already...does the cast know
who the 5th cylon is?
Katee Sackhoff: Nobody knows who the 5th is. I think they learned they can't keep a secret by trying to kill me. They are not telling anyone.
Katee Sackhoff: They just killed a character and they told that person the week before. So sad.


Q: This is a total geek-tease question, but can you give us a line of recent dialogue? Just for kicks?
Katee Sackhoff: OK recent. Let me see.
Katee Sackhoff: "I'm not a Cylon, you bitch!"
Q: spoken by you?
Katee Sackhoff: Yes, by me.
Q: roslin is gonna try pulling a madame airlock on you isnt she?
Katee Sackhoff: Can't say.

Oh, yes. Can't wait to see how she plays that -- screaming or growling? Either way is gold. And I love the implications of her being a Cylon suspect and isolated from everyone else. It'll be quite interesting to see how she holds up since she seemed so *happy* at the end of 3.20.

It's nice to her hear confirm the Cain/lady friend rumours, actually, thanks for posting. I was starting to get a little concerned that they were foilers, but I don't think Katee would bluff about that.

Yup! Interesting, though, that she said it might be left to interpretation. Last month, there was quite a debate on TWOP about whether having Big Bad Evil Cain as gay would be a good or bad thing -- the whole "evil/dead lesbian cliche". I could go either way on that issue. At least we finally have cause to debate it!

See, on the one hand, I am really sick of that cliche, and retconning Cain as a lesbian is kind of a cop-out, and - well, basically, I have a whole bunch of issues with what I've heard about the storyline that boil down to "I really wish writing a gay storyline didn't make the straight boys at SF uncomfortable."

That said? I am so glad to finally at least have a gay character on the show. And Michelle Forbes had rocking chemistry with pretty much all the female leads as Cain, so. That's kind of awesome.

So I suppose this gives credence to the spec that Kara and Roslin will lead different sects in the search for Earth. I thought it may have been possible that they'd work together since they seem to share very similar beliefs, but looks like they won't. Which is WAY more fun anyway!

Kara vs. Roslin vs. Baltar. So. Awesome.

Good point about the differing factions. My one concern about "I've been to Earth" is how they could stretch it out to 20 episodes without contrivances, and that's a very plausible way to do so!

The Kara/Laura stuff really interests me. Both have the same goal - leading the fleet to earth - yet it seems that Laura is going to view Kara as a threat. If she believes she is a Cylon I can't fault her for thinking she may be a plant giving them false information. And if Laura still believe sshe is the dying leader who is suppose to show them the way then everything Kara says she is going to question. Interesting.

Yeah, Kara and Leoben is a relationship that I think should intrigue me, but really doesn't. I can see where the writers are trying to go with it, but I always have the same problem. Kara is too smart to fall for his line of BS. And it may not all be a line of BS, but still, I think the character of Kara becomes less with Leoben around.

Talk about your unpopular opinions...

I do find them interesting, but I also think it'll be hard to top the intrigue of their "relationship" in the occupation eps. That was just deliciously messed up.

If they change fanatical Leoben into imitation Leoben as Kara's spirit guide, that would be something new and different. CKR's portrayal of him in Maelstrom makes me want to see more of him.

Yeah, I'm just not sure where they could go with the interaction between Leoben-Leoben and Kara. I mean, he spent four months fucking with her head and terrorising her, and she survived it. Barely, but she did. What more can he do to try and break her will? It feels like that storyline wrapped itself up in a fairly organic fashion in 3.04 with the kiss and the stabbing. Unless they brought that particular Leoben back in order to have him actually explain what made him so fixated on Kara, I'm not sure where the show could go with that fixation without it being a retread.

I actually really like the way CKR and KS play off each other, but I agree that ambiguous spirit guide Leoben has more potential at this point if they want to bring back the actor. For one thing, they can explore the fucked-up chemistry between the two characters without having the audience screaming about Stockholm Syndrome, because he's not real.

I really like the Starbuck vs. Roslin thing. Many similarities between them, but also SO many differences. That should make for some great conflict!

Thank you so much for transcribing this! So exciting - I predicted that Starbuck and Roslin would be on the same side b/c they're both religious, but it looks like I was wrong. Starbuck vs. Roslin though! *shivers* Although, Leah Cairns (Racetrack) gave an interview recently and said she had a scene with Helo and Kara early in season four, so maybe "I'm not a Cylon, bitch!" was to Racetrack? They've always been a bit antagonistic.
Jamie's statement that Lee goes against his father and becomes his own man (again!) in the first few episodes, makes me wonder if it'll be Adama/Roslin vs. Lee/Kara.

Oh, I know, I don't like it either. Hopefully it's not!Leoben though.

Lovely to see you around here, Allison! I'm a hardcore TWOP lurker, but I've always adored your posts there. (And I've been meaning to reply to your comment on the [info]sasa_hq post about Jamie's interview, but I keep getting distracted. Typical.)

I hadn't thought of that. I'd initially assumed that the context meant that Katee's chatroom comments referred to Roslin, but now that I reread it, she's somewhat vague. Even so, I'm thrilled she spilled that line. It's a pretty damn big spoiler!

Jamie's statement that Lee goes against his father and becomes his own man (again!) in the first few episodes, makes me wonder if it'll be Adama/Roslin vs. Lee/Kara.

I LOVE THIS. Not just for the 'ship aspects, but also for the generational conflict and their shifting positions within the Fleet. I've been wondering how to interpret Jamie's comments about Lee going in a completely new direction. I'd assumed it would be related to the government, maybe even as VP if he reconciles with Roslin. But your interpretation has me thinking he might take a completely independent stand -- though I have no idea what form that would take. Kara's apparent estrangement from everyone else would also fit with that, especially since Lee was brought so low at the end of S3 that I can see him now being utterly devoted to her as both a (potential) lover and the one on whom he depends for so many things. Hell, even just him being the only one to believe in her return would set up some great tests of loyalty and friction with the others.

Katee also said something else interesting/worrisome:

I'm hoping "on her own" means estrangement rather than physical separation. As I've said before, my one quibble with "I've been to Earth" is that if she has the coordinates, how will the writers keep the RTFF from going there until 4.20 without tons of contrivances? My silly fanfic-ish wish is for her and Lee to head off to Earth on their own, but again, that would mean RDM showing the planet much earlier than he says. But "on her own" implies that she's no longer Viper Pilot Starbuck, and I can't figure out what kind of arc she'd have without that day-to-day tie to the military part of the show. The series IS centered around the Galactica, after all, and unless she's stuck in the brig, keeping her out of the cockpit could risk marginalizing her storyline. That's the LAST thing I want to happen!

Heh, I had a similar Lee/Kara split off and head for earth spec back when we were talking about the Jamie interview over on SASA, based on [info]dianora02's idea that she thinks his character arc is setting Lee up to be a leader of a civilian fleet. The finale really looked like the beginning of a Roslin/Adama rift again, but it it would be interesting to have generational conflict.

I would have pegged Roslin to be on Kara's side too, what with the mystical connection, and the prophecies. But hey, maybe they have contact with different divine forces...! The oracle on NC and other things have suggested connections between the Cylon god and the Lords of Kobol, but it does make me wonder.

Someone dies early in the season? I'm guessing it's not an above the title character or Sam or Helo or Tyrol. I'm wondering if it might be Tory and Lee assumes her position as advisor to the president. Though Katee's comments do offer up some other possabilities for Lee, there could be some interesting drama if he remains a personal ally, yet sides with the president in terms of reaching earth. We need more spoilers!
