Terms the article will studiously avoid using:  Pictish, Fairy.

Stone Age temple found in Orkney is 800 years older than Stonehenge - and may be more important

Note the 15 foot-thick walls, and the site located on an easily defensible strip of land with clear view of water on 3 sides.  Read:  Someone was scared of something... seriously.   These weren't the only inhabitants of the neighborhood.    Curiously absent from the article, but plain to those who understand the Why of Walls.    A curious omission, no?

Note the casual reference to "zig zag lines", in the region known as the center of its Pictish inhabitants  (who, we also note, waaaaay predate the later migrants who became known as Scots).   These indigenous inhabitants go back to the Paleolithic era.   A glaring, curious omission that this obvious artistic feature is left hanging, without association whatsoever.

Nope, no politicking in that article whatsoever.

Scotland referendum to split from the UK?

Update:   as long as this goes on, and there are reeeeally rich windsors down south throwing cash around, the next fight will continue to build.   One day (soon) its gonna go pop.

Anyone watch the "royal wedding" without a sense of nausea and disgust at the bloodshed it will someday inspire?

The Top Secret Drum Corps, from the Basel Tatoo 2007.

I've never been to the Basel Tattoo, but I was at the Edinburgh Tattoo that year, and the Swiss made a presentation. They're definitely in the elite at Tatoo in the world - amazing stuff.    Of course, none can best  the Black Watch, my absolute favorite.

Indo‐European “Kinship Terms” Revisited

"This paper is an attempt to reconstruct the original meaning of the Indo‐European words commonly treated as kinship terms. The traditional approach fails to explain such linguistic and historical phenomena as ... Consequently, the paper argues that patriarchal clan society was not the earliest form of Indo‐European social organization as has been believed and that the latter seems to have been based on age‐sex stratification."

Ah, the irish.

Me mum's off next week for some time in Dun Laoghaire, for 10 days with the cousins.

So this is appropriate, and all who know us can vouch for.

"Pie-faced, neckless, bandy-legged sots who almost never fuck. Ignorant and superstitious..."

wtf

Off with their heads.
                                regardless of their skin color,
                                      preference for tea and tweed.

Here's to the health of Harry Nicolaides, the hero whose name you haven't heard.   A braver man than me.

None have the right to inherited rule, not "king" or "c.f.o.".

...Heads on pikes.  Its a-comin.

...retreat, englanders, and leave Holyrood open as you run.

Godspeed the new freedom fighters.
Hang in there, friends -- you can do it.   Our thoughts are with you.

Flee to the safety of the south, englanders, while you can!

cuz its gonna be mayhem, soon.

Don't forget all that sweet land that royalty owns (most of the good stuff) just lying there fallow, while you go hungry.
For you Scots in Edinburgh,
Don't forget that the Queen owns Holyrood, and has enough cash to feed you all for many years (were she so inclined), while you go hungry.

Who is the next Robin Hood?

My advice:  burn that place to the ground, and string them up by their thumbs, for starters.

Except for Gordon Brown.   He's a hero in all of this, having done more damage to England, single-handedly, than anyone in the history of the country, I think.    And that's saying something.   He's right up there with Billy Wallace in the amount of cost/damage he has done to england, and the funny part is that they haven't strung him up.  ...yet.    They don't reallly comprehend the damage that he did ...yet.

What did he do?   A little while back, in a volatile flux in the commodities markets, spot gold price fell through the floor.   He quickly siezed upon that opportunity to sell off half the public treasury, at fire-sale prices.    Bam.   Done, nearly in complete secret.   This single action did more to ensure government collapse than any i could imagine one man doing.

Bravo, sir!  you've got some Scottish stones, I'll give you that.
And its a testament to how far England has fallen that they didn't flay him, and hang him from the bridge.  Pansies.
