[sticky post] FANFIC INDEX

fiction
It has occurred to me that many people may want to know what a story is about before choosing to read it, so I thought I would create this entry to provide summaries for them. This list is only for the stories that are posted in this journal. You can find my other stories and drabbles at Jackfic.com or at ff.net. This list will be updated as I upload more stories. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy these offerings:

Signal boost, gratitude and a plea for help

fiction
Not much has happened since my last post, to the point where I'm still without a computer. *pouts* My apologies to those who replied to that post, but OMGosh, every one of your replies helped me tremendously!!! I've decided against the iPad! :D Of course, none of this matters as I'm back to not having the funds again. *pouts some more* But I did want to apologize for not responding.

As I was saying, I am in desperate need of a computer. Why is that, you ask? Well, let me tell you. :) I will never be able to resist participating in an Alphabet Soup, so I had to sign up to write one! I mean, seriously now. How can anyone resist writing a story about Bra'tac or any other Jaffa that has graced our TV screens?? :) There are 4 more letters left as I write this, so hurry over and snatch one of them! Go on already!

Please?? Hee! I love Alphabet Soups! They're so much fun!

Aaaannnnddd... Well, I also signed up to write another story *ahem* or two for the [info]het_bigbang community. I had so much fun with it last year, that I just have to do it. And this year, we were given the option to write either a Big Bang (25,000 words) or a Little Bang (only 10,000 words) or both if we are so inclined, and I said, "What the heck. I'll write one for each!" I'm hoping that I'll get at least one done, but hey, I signed up for both, just in case.

Okay, so now we all know how ambitious I can get, especially when it's something I really want to do, so we'll see what I end up writing (if anything at all). But for now, I'm looking for plot bunnies. I have several ideas, but I've already written an AMTDI, enslaved fic and a trapped off-world scenario. I think it would be much more fun and interesting if I try something else.

With that said, do you have any ideas on what I can write for a new Sam/Jack fic? If you could help me come up with something, I'll be eternally grateful!

Now, if that's not enough on my plate, I also have a non-fiction project that I need to work on and I've set a goal for the end of this year. This one is going to take some time as I also plan to have lots of pictures to include in it, which means I probably should fire up PhotoShop again.

AND I also have an original fic that needs to be written and I'm hoping beyond hope that I can do this one during NaNo this year. This time around I plan to have the whole thing plotted out and outlined to see if that helps. Which means I'll need to find time to do all that, as well.

So yeah, I really, REALLY need to either get my computer fixed or find a new one. Either that or steal my mom's computer out from under her nose, which won't be easy because she is a Farmville and Wild West Town addict. lol It will be a fight to the death!

In the meantime, I'll be working on all the above projects in a notebook (as suggested by [info]xfirefly9x (thanks again!) and see what I can do. Because when all is said and done, I really don't like to hand write my stories and get frustrated with doing it after a while. *shrugs* I just figure I'll break it down into chunks so it won't be so bad!

Computer advice

Snoopy's Computer
Still no personal computer for me. My netbook starts up, but stops dead during start up and gives me the old, "Windows didn't start up properly" crap and keeps looping back to the message no matter what option I choose. *grumbles* I need a permanent solution! I'm working on said solution, so all is not lost. Just need to decide on what to do next.

I'm torn between what to get as a replacement. My mother has offered to buy me an iPad, in fact, she's insisting on an iPad even though I'm not so sure that's the right option. I'm ecstatic, of course, but I need to be practical here. The iPad is great for a lot of things, but I also need something that will run programs for school, work, and the most important thing of all: WRITING! (You all have no idea how much I miss putting words together to form a story.)

Anyway, I really need a work horse and I'm leaning toward buying a netbook or a laptop instead. I just don't think the iPad can do all the things I need in a computer. But then again, I'm not that familiar with iPads or Apple products at all...

So now I'm looking for advice. For those of you who have an iPad or any other tablet computer, what are your thoughts on getting things done on those devices? I need something that has programs that are compatible with Word and Excel and I know that Pages may be a good workaround. I'm not a big fan of Google Docs at all, but I could use that if I absolutely have to - with great reluctance I must add. :) I also use Notepad a lot for various reasons - is there an iPad app that's similar to that program?

What are your thoughts on this subject? Any thing else I should think about when purchasing a new computing device? Any great apps I should consider?

Thanks in advance!

The Goa'uld and email

happy sam
[info]latetothesj posted this sound bite of a cancelled SG-1 videogame and I just had to share. LMAO Seriously, it's great, if only to hear the voices of our Jack, Daniel, Teal'c and Sam again! Go check it out!!

Ughhh

Daniel's cell
You know, it's hard not having access to a computer at home. I seriously miss writing!

I'm able to use my computer at work for some personal things... as long as I do it during lunch or after hours. But because I'd rather be out of the office whenever I can, my productivity on personal projects is extremely limited!! So yeah, I have barely written anything over the past two months which is putting a crimp on my plans for reaching the halfway point of my [info]getyourwordsout goal this year. But you know, I think this year will be my "practice" year. Hee!! Yeah, that's what I'll call it. :D

I'm still reading your entries and keeping up as much as I can, I'll just be absent for awhile longer. Not for too long, I hope! I signed up for [info]writerverse again!! I need to be more active over there!!

So tell me, how are you all doing? Any great news in your lives? Any great events coming up I should know about? I'd love to hear all about it!

Thank you xfirefly9x!!

jack love
A quick fly by post to send out a squeeful thank you to [info]xfirefly9x for the beautiful Glass Heart that's sitting on my profile. *hugs you* You've really made my week!! :)

And with the way things are going in my life lately, your thoughtfulness was like a breath of fresh air! Thank you!!

Still here...

Snoopy's Computer
Well, I'm still here but still not at full-mode. I'm anxious to get back into writing again, especially since the deadlines of a few big bangs I signed up for are looming right over my head!

And in the spirit of finding things to write - I signed up for the [info]gate_women 12 in 12 Challenge!! I know, I know. I didn't get anywhere near finishing up with the challenge I signed up for last year. But I really enjoyed the posts that came through that community, and besides, I have all those stories and ideas I didn't use last year. :) Recycling old to-do lists is a good thing sometimes! And yes, Janet's 5 Times fic is at the top of the list. It may not be the first one, but it's still there.

Speaking of which: The 12 in 12 Challenge is a lot of fun, and you don't even have to write for it. They accept fanart and recs too!! *hint, hint* :) Go sign up for it so that we'll have lots more Stargate Women glee!!

Go now!

Anyway, I also need to start writing again for [info]writerverse, like really soon, or I'll be booted out for non-activity and I've been enjoying the writing exercises I did participate in.

And if that isn't enough, I have a few assignments that need to be written, so there's going to be quite a few words typed up hopefully soon.

All this hopefully means I'll be posting stuff here soon. *fingers crossed* I just need to get my act together!!

SG-1 FIC: Patterns of Destiny

Looking for a beta

bad day
Hi all!

I'm still around and actually wrote the Cameron Mitchell story I signed up to write. Yay!! It's for the Cam Alphabet Soup Anthology that's due today and I was wondering if there's anyone out there willing to do a quick beta for me? Pretty please?? :)

It's at 1,200 words right now, and I'm still trying to find an ending for the thing (one paragraph more at the most... I think...), but I thought I would get this out there to see if anyone is interested. Please let me know.

Thanks!!

Pinterest

terms
It's me again! I was just wondering if anyone on my flist has a pinterest account, and if so, do you like it? It seems like a great resource for just about anything, but I would love to hear what others who actually use it thinks. :)

Could you share your thoughts on this with me, please? Oh, and I'd be interested in an invite too!! :D

Thanks in advance!

Still writing

Daniel's cell
Eek! This month is flying by and I'm in the background trying to figure out which way is up. :) Lots of RL stress framing a huge to-do list, but I am hanging in there. :)

I'm still writing, which is the good news. And I've gotten back into quilting again after a long hiatus, so I'm doing good creative-wise. I am currently trying to gather up enough steam to work on my Cam Mitchell fic for the upcoming Alphabet Soup, but the story is not shaping up so much right now. In fact, the one I originally had sort of fizzled out and now I'm trying to coax the muse into maybe bringing it back to life? You know, like now?? lol I only have two weeks before it's due!!

I am also working on a few original fics for [info]writerverse. The challenges are coming fast and furious, but I've learned to write for the ones I can and get over the ones I can't. And while I'm on the subject, let me just say that this comm really isn't as fearsome as I originally thought. In fact, it's turned out to be surprisingly fun! There's no pressure to write and I enjoy creating stuff I normally wouldn't ever think of trying. Come join us and see for yourself!

[info]writerverse | [info]writerverse | [info]writerverse | [info]writerverse

Anyway, with that out of the way... :D I now have a few things to add to my Original Fic filter and will do so one of these days. Maybe even this weekend. And I hope to have another one ready soon because I want to write that story that's due today. If nothing else, [info]writerverse really inspires me to write more! That's always good news!

OH! And before I forget, I signed up for the [info]timetraveler_bb and I can't wait to get to work on that story!!! It's one I started a long time ago, you see, and I'm super excited to finish it up. It's the Mummy crossover fic that I originally wanted to post for Crossover Alphabet Soup Anthology, but didn't get to because it's turning into a novel. Yay!! I love that story (what I have of it so far) and I'm really anxious to get back to work on it.

Here's a snippet of what I've already written, (and I hope this isn't breaking any of the rules):

"Look," Dr. Gladwin said. "Alex came to me soon after we started excavating the site. He wasn't sure if we would find anything, but he was hoping." He looked over at Alex, who nodded. Gladwin went on, "I admit that I was surprised and intrigued when I found the backpack, but Alex acted as if I found a hidden treasure." He looked at Jack, then said, "I don't know how you got there, or even if you will return, but you have to go to Hamunaptra."

"Why?" Sam asked. "Why is it so important?"

It was Alex who answered her question. "Because you have something we didn't. Something more powerful than the evil itself." Daniel and Sam shared a glance at that statement. Oh great, Daniel thought with a sigh. He wasn't sure he wanted to go now. But he knew they would. Saving people was their specialty.

"The City of the Dead," Jack said, seeming to come around to Daniel's way of thinking. "Sounds like fun."

Can't wait to get my muse wrapped around this story!!

But Cam has to come first.

And while I'm on the subject of writing, I see that [info]gate_women has a new poll up to decide on what type of challenge they're going to do this year. Head on over and give them your two cents!

There's a lot going on in LJ these days, and I'm still trying to keep up. But this is good for me. I need this to help ease the RL stress. Writing can sometimes be an ointment to soothe the soul and, well heck! I'm signed up for enough challenges. lol Surely I won't end up a wreck!

Writer's block sucks. I just spent an hour sitting here with my computer and wrote about 300 words of which two thirds is garbage. All it took was a start on three different projects to get past the garbage, but I'm stuck again! :/

On the plus side, I AM writing again. I'll take whatever I can get. :)

LJ Drama

smirk
Lots of LJ drama going around lately. I don't necessarily have problems with change (in fact crave it sometimes!) so this latest hulabaloo isn't affecting me all too much. With that said, I do understand how it annoys the heck out of everyone else, because I am a firm believer of the old adage, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm going to stay here though because I really like it here. Of course, I could be persuaded to change my mind if all my friends are gone... lol But yeah. I'm not going anywhere.

Let me know if you have a DW journal so I can friend you over there. I have journal over there which is supposed to be a mirror of my LJ, but I sometimes forget to update that thing when I post here. I do eventually get it up-to-date, just sometimes not right away. And unfortunately, I only check the DW reading page like maybe once a week, so for those of you who are completely leaving LJ, please forgive me if I don't respond in a timely manner.

You know, every time this kind of thing happens, I always try to sit down and gather links to all the places where I can be found on the internets, but never really get it done. Hmm... I have a whole week and a half off from work, surely I'll be able to find the time to finally get to it.

Right after I do my last minute Christmas shopping, clean the house for the guests, spend Christmas with family and friends, clean up after everyone leaves, write those last 3,000 words I am determined to get in, AND start packing up because of an eviction notice still looming over my head.

Whew! Then again, maybe I won't get to it after all!! Hee!

And I do hope to be online sporadically over the next couple of days, but in case I don't:

Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays!!!

Writing in 2012

bring it on
Well, it's that time again. It's time to analyze your past writing projects, look closely at the word counts you managed to achieve during 2011, fire up your ambition, and think about the writing projects you want to work on in 2012. Why? Well, because it's time to sign up for [info]getyourwordsout.

GetYourWordsOut: Back for a 4th Year!
Pledges & Requirements | GYWO.net

You only have until the end of December to make your pledge; and once that's done, you just go about business as usual while keeping track of the words you write and check in on a monthly basis. Simple as that.

I've signed up for 150,000 words again and I am hoping to at least make it to the 60% mark by next December, with the ultimate goal of going all the way! *bounces* I'm 3,000 words from hitting the 50% mark this year (of which I will write, come hell or high water) so next year's goal is to beat that.

With the Angst, Hurt/Comfort and Het Big Bangs coming up, I think I might be able to do it. Right? Um... yeah. lol We'll see!! :D

And I also want to announce more glee!! I got a Snowman Cookie!! Thank you [info]xfirefly9x for the thought!! *squishes you* I love it!

It's here!!

boom
The pot of Cam Alphabet Soup is officially on the burner and it's time to choose a letter for the fic you're going to write - if you are dying to do so, of course. Sign-ups are on a first come, first serve basis so you may want to go over there now to avoid missing out.

If you haven't written for the soups yet, go give it a try! It's a lot of fun and your story will be part of an anthology that is read by all of fandom... Well okay, maybe that's a HUGE stretch, but still. lol If you are a Cam!fan, go sign up already!!

Challenges to inspire

paradise
Wow, I signed up for [info]writerverse thinking that it may give me some incentive to write, but Oh. My. God! The writing challenges are presented to us at a fast and furious pace, which is intimidating in of itself. They're not hard challenges (so far), but still. *sigh* I'm determined to do my best, so we'll see if I can keep up.

As it stands right now, I'll be writing whatever comes to mind for those challenges, whether it be fanfic or original stories. ... ... IF I can keep up with everything, that is. :)

Also, [info]sg_fignewton is sponsoring another SG-1 Gen Fic Day AND another Alphabet Soup Anthology that will be filled with lots of yummy stories!!!! I'd add more explanation points, but I think you can see how excited I am. :D Anyway, this time it's Cameron Mitchell's turn and we need some prompts to help inspire those who want to participate. So go over to this post and leave some prompts because seriously, Gen Fic Day and the Alphabet Soups are really a lot of fun.

[info]getyourwordsout is gearing up for another yearly challenge and will be opening up for sign-ups on December 15th. I really enjoy this one, even if I don't actually reach my goal - although I am almost to the halfway point of this year's goal, and I WILL be celebrating when that time comes. Glee!! OMGosh, this is the best year yet for me! :)

They have five pledge levels (150K, 200K, 250K, 300K, or 350K), and you can sign up for whichever one you think works for you. I'll be signing up again, that's for sure!

And on a different note: I've been playing Words With Friends (an online version of Scrabble) on Facebook. It's great fun even though my daughter trounces me every time. But I do sometimes wonder about the game's dictionary. I had the perfect opportunity to use a great word, but the game wouldn't let me use it. Seriously? "Glowy" isn't a word? Hee! I think Jack O'Neill would definitely have something to say about that!! :)

Walter saves the day over at One_Prompt

team
I've been waiting to do this from the moment I first read it and it's finally time to unveil the Walter the chevron guy saves the day stories over at [info]one_prompt. Actually, we only one story so far, but it is an absolute gem! And to repeat what I posted at the comm, go read it now! I promise you will be glad you did and will come away with a smile. So what are you waiting for. Go. Now!!

And don't forget to leave lots of love for [info]nymaeria while you're at it. :)

Writing interrupted

Why me?
Well, so much for finishing that article last night. Eeep! I worked on it through lunch today and got a LOT done, but it still needs work. I'm crossing my fingers I get it finished tonight. I'm even planning to stay after work in order to get some more done on it.

What kept me from it, you ask? ... Okay, so you didn't ask, but I'm going to tell you anyway. :)

I spent most of the evening looking for a medical facility for the youngest grandkid. You know, there is definitely an advantage for being a young grandma. Every person I saw last night thought I was her mother. *beams!!* I love it when that happens. lol

Anyway, my youngest has been feeling crappy for over a week now and I was getting concerned when her fever wouldn't go away. She doesn't have insurance (I won't go into my extremely long winded, angry rant about the lack of universal health care, don't worry), and her mother and I are both broke. So we treated the fever as best we could. Alas, 'twas to no avail.

I really started to worry when the kid broke out in a rash all over her body and complained of headaches and a few other symptoms that scared the crap out of me. My daughter is battling a health issue unrelated to what her daughter has so I volunteered to take the kid to see a doctor, despite the lack of money. Emergency rooms cannot turn any one away.

The first one we went to was near a major city and was packed to the ceiling. I'm not kidding. There were no parking spaces at all and all I could see through the windows were people. Standing.

Everywhere.

*nods warily* Yeah.

So then we decided to take her to an urgent care center near her home. Guess what? It's closed for renovations.

Did I mention that it rained constantly and was freezing cold?

Anyway, we went to an urgent care in the next town over, which was empty, thank God. BUT. They wanted $90 bucks up front, which is not happening thank you very much.

So I drove all the way to an emergency room near where my mom lives and yes! They not only didn't ask for money, but they took her right in!

She had a 103 degree temp and they immediately dosed her up with ibuprofen and benadryl (for the hives), did a urine test, strep swab AND took her down to for an X-ray before I could actually get settled in! I can tell they were pretty bored. :) Either that or I had one sick little one on my hands.

We were in and out of there within an hour. That has to be a record!!

Oh, and did I mention every last person in there thought I was her mother? *preens in the mirror* :D

It turns out that I really did have a very sick little one on my hands. And I had to smile when the doctor came in and said, "I have good news for you... well not really good, but we finally know what's wrong with her." Hee! Is it bad that I agreed with her that it was good news?

Anyway, that kid I was fussing over for a week has pneumonia. She's going to be okay, but she is holding the fact that she can stay home from school for a few more days over her brother's head like an award. She knows how he hates to go to school. Oh is he upset about that!

Kids. What are you going to do right?

So yeah, that was what happened in a nut shell. Well, maybe more than a nut shell. The kid's going to be all right. I'm on the mend, and my daughter? Well I'm praying she gets past all that crappy stuff too so that we can stop worrying about stocking up on ibuprofen and what have you.

AND I'm going to get that article finished tonight. No matter what. Either that or I'm doomed. I guess that's good enough incentive for me!!

Hopefully. *frets a little* Eeeep!

Hope all my American friends had a great Thanksgiving! I ended up going out on Thanksgiving after all. I may have sort of invited myself and the kids to my niece's house on Thursday, but we all had a fantastic time so it was all good! :D

I was unable to write anything at all over the long weekend. Most of it was because I really didn't want to. (I know, shocker, right??) Anyway, I am now frantically writing that long feature I was supposed to have written for [info]fandom_grammar, while fighting off the scenes of next year's [info]het_bigbang story that keeps running through my head.

The muse if a freaking tease, you know?? lol

I also signed up to participate in a new community called [info]writerverse. I have absolutely no idea what a land comm is, so this will be interesting to say the least. But guys, they assigned me to Team Poetry!!! Seriously? I have no desire whatsoever to write poetry. None. I've tried it throughout my life time, but eh. No fun in it, you know? Anyway, I am told that I don't have to worry. I can still stay with the love of my life (fiction) and be okay. Whew, I say. Fiction I can do at a half-way decent level.

OH! And to garner my very first point, I give you a signal boost!!

[info]writerverse | [info]writerverse | [info]writerverse | [info]writerverse

Yay!!! *throws confetti and stuff to make it more interesting!* :)

In other news. I still have the shingles. And I was wrong about the 9 months worth of pain meds I mentioned in my last post. *blush!!* I only had 90 pills in the bottle, which covers only one month of meds. *ducks head and turns an even brighter shade of scarlet* I all set for 3 more months, not 9. lol Still, I'm dealing with the condition as best I can.

And since I can be just as big a tease as my muse...

[info]nymaeria posted a Walter saves the day fic over at [info]one_prompt!!!!! OMG! You'll have to wait until Thursday to read it, but trust me, it's worth the wait! I admit, I may have squeeeed very loudly when I read that story! :D I hope there's more from other authors - hint, hint. But yeah, bring it on!
