| Bio: | Name: Reid Danton Proposed Codename: Quicken (Yes, it’s a computer program. Yes, he is highly amused by both jokes of that nature and by Highlander references.) Age: 33 Birthday: October 20th, 1972 PB: Alan Tudyk Powers: Reid has the ability to bring life to inanimate objects by projecting energy into them by touch. How “alive” the object becomes depends on its form. For example, a stuffed animal would react more under Reid’s influence than a rock that might just roll around in a circle. He must be in contact with the item to bring it to life. It also helps if he has encountered the object before, and objects that he has already dealt with will respond to him faster than others. Depending on how much energy Reid puts into the object, the effect will last from five minutes when he’s in a hurry to thirty minutes if he has time to concentrate and really put effort into the thing. The longest the effect has ever lasted has been an hour. The energy transfer takes a bit out of him every time he does it. Obviously, the more energy he projects, the more he must draw out of himself. He has only knocked himself out once after having used his mutation and learned the warning signs from that event. Personality: Strengths: Reid is a highly devoted friend that will go out of his way to do a favor if it is needed. His devotion in friendships carries over to the way he treats everything else in his life. His car is always in excellent condition, his pets are well cared for, he always pays the bills on time, etc. He cares very deeply about people in general, which is probably most of the reason he volunteers in as many places as he does and took the path in college that he did. He is very active in the community, both human and mutant, and still sometimes feels like he’s not doing enough. Reid is also far more intelligent than most people would think based on how hyper and childish he tends to be. Weaknesses: Reid frequently has a problem with getting lost in thought and wrapped up in whatever current project he’s working on. Though he is devoted to everything else in life, he tends not to take very good care of himself, sometimes wearing the same clothes for days on end and actually forgetting to eat or sleep. When he does remember to eat, he has a weakness for anything anyone puts in front of him, especially anything with any sugar in it. Reid can be more than a little scatterbrained sometimes if he gets involved with too many things at once. He is also highly reactionary, and it obviously can be worse when he’s gone a while without sleeping. History: Andrew Reid Danton was born to Nathaniel and Kari Danton in El Paso, Texas on October 20th, 1972. Nathaniel Danton was an artist and stay-at-home-Dad while Kari worked as a registered nurse in a local hospital. They were not a very close family, as Kari worked very strange hours and Nathaniel would hole up in his studio for hours at a time, only coming out for meals and to go to sleep. Although they didn’t talk very often, their situation worked well for the couple, and Reid was never concerned about the fact that he didn’t see or interact with his parents very often. Reid was a very active child and was forced to amuse himself lest he receive an earful from his father for disturbing his work. To assist the boy, his parents bought him numerous building sets, and Reid became fascinated with putting the pieces together and watching how it all came together from so many tiny little things. Having something like the kits to focus on also calmed him down, and Reid soon had more of the kits than he knew what to do with. As he grew older, Reid began to have an interest in building model cars. The interest continued, and he now has quite a large collection. A few weeks before Reid’s thirteenth birthday, Angela Michelle Danton joined the family. Nathaniel and Kari didn’t really intend to have another child, but it still happened. Reid was put in charge of his baby sister quite often while his parents worked. One night a few months later, his parents left him in charge of Angela and went out for dinner. Angela hadn’t been feeling well but had calmed down enough that Reid had assured them he could handle things. However, she began to get fussy, and Reid went through everything he could think of to calm her down with no effect. He began to get more and more aggravated both with her and with himself because he began to realize that he was going to have to call his parents at the restaurant and interrupt their evening out – an event that occurred all too infrequently. He was giving Angela’s favorite stuffed animal one more shot when he felt something strange. His hands began to tingle, and, to his shock and the baby’s delight, the stuffed cow wriggled out of his grip and began to lope around her crib. The event freaked Reid out, and he lied to his parents when they returned, assuring them that Angela had been fine all evening and had given him no trouble. This first time only lasted roughly five minutes, and he couldn’t figure out how to renew the movement, though Angela now seemed happy enough just trying to eat the cow. At the same time that it scared him, it also fascinated him, and he made it his goal to figure out how he had done it. His building kits became the objects of experimentation, and Reid spent countless hours practicing on various toys for Angela while their parents worked. He still had problems with it happening with no warning, and there were many times when he would have to shove something in a pocket to keep his parents from seeing that it had come to life. One Halloween, Reid was helping some friends set up a haunted house for a local children’s center. By this point, he had learned to control enough of his abilities to thread the right amount of energy into an object to keep it going for a certain amount of time. Reid was setting up one of the rooms and doing this, and a friend jumped out, startling him. He lost his grip on his powers and flooded the object, nearly knocking himself out and fully alerting his friends and family as to what he could do. The reactions were mixed, though most had enough common sense to realize that it didn’t make a difference in who he was. The ones that didn’t, Reid was sad about for a brief time before he realized he couldn’t change their opinions and moved on. Reid attended college and obtained degrees both in architecture and child care, a combination that has confused people through Reid’s entire life. He moved to New York to take an internship just out of college and has lived there since. Reid uses both his degrees, though his main job is at an architecture firm while he volunteers at various places that allow him to interact with children. He has seen enough anti-mutant sentiment throughout the years to realize that most of the comments he hears are due to fear and people just not understanding, leading him to pity them. He doesn’t mind when people make comments about him, but comments about anyone he cares about are sure to set off his temper in a hurry. Several years ago, Reid met a woman named Annie Overbeck at one of the organizations he volunteered for. They hit it off, and their relationship has been going strong since. Unfortunately, she lives out of state, so he doesn’t see her as often as he would like to, though they certainly make the most of their time together when she is in town. Reid's prized possession in his 1965 Mustang. He's only had it a few years, but the car is one of the most important things to him, after friends, Annie, and the kids, in no particular order. ![]() Additional Information: Has a tattoo of something rather embarrassing in a strategic location. You’ll have to get him very drunk to find out what and where it is. Knows some origami, which has always provided him with something to do when he gets bored in meetings and the like, and they seem to amuse the kids, especially when they come to life. Owns a small black and white cat named Jack, who he acquired after Annie changed apartment buildings and couldn't keep him anymore. Since they see so much of each other, they figured that was the best arrangement. Disclaimer: This is a role-play journal created for the sake of funning around. Reid Danton is a creation of | |||||
