Political Wishlist
Term Limits On All Elected Positions
Federal, State, and Local. Admittedly, this would likely set up a natural transition from Mayor, to State Representative, to State Senator, to U.S. Representative, to U.S. Senator... But surely that kind of transition would include closer scrutiny each time.
End Retirement Pensions For All Elected Positions
Goes with the first.
A Clear Means Of Impeaching Supreme Court Justices
Impeachment would only be for high crimes and misdomeaners (same as Presidential impeachment) and one more: Judicial Malpractice which would include usurping congressional power (making law from the bench) and Constitutional Malfeasence. The second basically is allowing to stand a law that is clearly unconstitutional, or striking down a law that is not covered by the Constitution claiming it is unconstitutional. Such impeachment must be brought by the President, and approved by a supermajority of the House, the Senate, and three fifths of the state legislatures, much like passing an amendment. I grow tired of the erosion of the Constition (allowing a city to use imminent domain to increase your tax base??) by these justices.
National Purchases Tax Or A Flat Rate Tax
This would have to be written into the Constitution. I grow tired of using the tax code to buy votes. When you have someone claiming to give a tax break to 95% of Americans when only 60% pay any tax at all... Oh, and it's a tax on purchases, not sales. A purchases tax is paid by the purchaser. A sales tax is a tax on the seller. The seller is only the tax collector.
Page Limit On All Legislation
This should go a long way from preventing a three page proposal from turning into a 450 page pork barrel.

Makin' a belly!
Dear all,
First off, I want to thank EVERY FUR here who has helped in the past on my walrus suit!!! It totally rocks and will always be a work in progress, I hope, but for the time being, I love it lots and am very happy! :-D
Now I have a BELLY question to ask. :) As you well know, I'm going the ultra-cheap route in my suit, going to thrift stores for clothes, and eBay for accessories. :) It's worked aptly well so far, but I fear I may need to buy or build something complex for the belly...
Ideally, I'd like to find something new in time for FurFright (next Thursday, Oct. 16th), but I won't cry if not...
I have a strap-on belly (to look pregnant or have a low pot-belly/paunch) that is very light and foam-filled (not very firm). The belly both straps around my waist and around my neck to "hang" as well, so two straps come down in front of my chest.
What I do then is that I put a semi-large pillow (nothing too broad) underneath these straps, across my chest (this is all against bare skin), bulging it out in the middle to add more "frontal fat". I then stretch an undershirt over all this, then put on my dress shirt, trousers, and tie, and voila! Instant fat walrus. :) Also, since the pillow is somewhat "moldable," it works really well when the curve of my belly seems a bit off. :)
The only problem with this is that by the time I'm done suiting up, the pillow is aptly sweaty, as I'm wearing it against my bare skin (it and my undershirt take up the brunt of heat/sweat in my body). So it feels like I have to use a new pillow every time I suit up...and I want to suit up about six times at the convention (twice a day)!!!!
The alternative to this is to "air out" the pillows I use somehow, so the dampness is gone, and then Febreze the smell out of them, assuming it can be smelled from under my shirts when in suit. I thought I could put them next to the window or something overnight, but I'm not sure if that's the best idea. If I continue with the pillow idea, I feel that I should bring three pillows and alternate between them, so each one gets used twice...What do you think?
Do you have an alternative idea that I could do to make myself look fat? (and DON'T say "Gain weight," ya nosey dawgs! :-D) Obviously I don't have much time until next Thursday, and I'd hate to buy even more things...but it would be nice to have something with better definition, enough firmness, and reusability that wouldn't succumb to sweat.

celebrity status in two contexts
number one: during the homecoming game on saturday, i was at one point going to the stands to get a drink, when someone out of nowhere called to me by name, i think asking, "are you mendel?" i turned to him and didn't recognize him at all, but confirmed that yes, that's who i was. He said, "my roommate is greg clayman."
greg clayman is a guy who i met through facebook playing a lot of boggle. i'm fairly certain he's a track runner. Apparently he was looking around for me during homecoming, and apparently his roommate knew me well enough to recognize my face.
crazy. but awesome. hopefully i get to meet this guy at some point.

number two: on saturday night after the homecoming game, mark and his parents (who were visiting), amanda, and i went out to dinner to celebrate amanda's birthday.
in the middle of us eating, someone who was coming in to be seated approached our table and said, "you two work with the band, right?"
we confirmed this, and he shook our hands, saying a couple of basic complimentary things like, "i think you guys sound great," and whatnot before letting us go back to our meal.
i've never been in a position where i get recognized and complimented by random strangers for being a marching band person from anyone who isn't some sort of internal peer, either internal in the context of "the dean of the music department" or in the context of "also worked with marching bands." to have a random joe come up to us and say that he dug what we were doing was strange, but nice - not nice for me personally, exactly, but nice that the marching band is making that sort of impact. i wish that some of the kids had been there to witness it.

SNL - The Forbidden Skit
It's unfortunate, but not surprising, that this skit was pulled from You Tube - but see link below to Pat Dollard's blog for the video.
NBC is furiously erasing its tracks. Any attempts to upload the forbidden SNL bailout skit skewering George Soros and his left-wing subprime schemer friends Herbert and Marion Sandler will likely be squashed. So, I transcribed the whole comedy sketch for you and provided screenshots for the 7-minute video that has disappeared from NBC and Hulu. (You can see it as of 1:08am Eastern here on YouTube, though I doubt it will last long. Pat Dollard’s blog has posted the full clip on its server. Thanks to Ms. Underestimated for the .wmv file.)
The hits on the Sandlers ( “People who should be shot”) and Soros ( “Owner, Democratic Party”) occur near the end of the skit.

SIGH ok I am weird. Last week TC e-mailed me a link http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DESTGO?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=mysimon-ce00-20&linkCode=asn Its for a Knight Rider themed GPS. It has Anthony Daniels voice ( he was the voice of K.I.T.T. in the original series) and the flashing lights the move in sync to the voice. .I laughed at it and yea I did like Knight Rider but I don’t know $270 for a “ toy” was a bit much. I went looking around for video of it and found some on you tube. Search for Knight Rider GPS there. After seeing some of the video, and yes Mio went to Comic Con to show the thing off and get reaction. After watching a lot fo the video and smiling and laughfing at some of it , I now will say officially……. I WANT ONE! giggle yea what can I say, I am geek :)
