Mmmm no work today
No work, but I did a lot of stuff today nevertheless.
I slept in all the way to 7:30 this morning and DAMN did it feel good. Never thought I'd hear myself say that any time soon. I was good for a little while, then I had to go to the dentist. Ugh. I had to have three fillings done. I have such bad teeth, it's just the usual drill for me, no pun intended. I hate local anasthetic. Not only was the right half of my face numb until about 2pm, but my jaw is sore. Pity me. Angst angst angst. On the plus side, last time I had a filling done (early '04), it wasn't done quite right, so for the next few months, whenever I hit it just right with something hard like NIU's wonderful overcooked bacon, it would send shooting pains all over the place. Doesn't seem to be bothering me this time. I hate numb face. Can't eat with it. But I'm okay.
I talked to
semjay today about my fursuit head. She said I should post to
fursuit about getting it commissioned, so I posted a little diddly about "need head, no fur plz" (not quite like that, though, hahaha!). Honest to god, NINE MINUTES later,
fallimar IM'ed me about the job. I was expecting some random weirdo, but got someone I had had my eye on for a while.
Cost is reasonable, job can be finished in a month or so, just in time for my sociology project, and it should match my existing partial-partial! This is gonna be the best "school project" ever, for Seriously McTotally.
Now that I think about it, maybe getting a sewing machine for use in the dorms isn't such a hot idea. Space issues, I'm a tightwad, and I really really don't think I'd ever have the motivation to work on anything. If this fall goes anything like the previous two have, when I get done with class and homework, all I want to do is sleep or play mindless video games. I dunno. I still got time.
To pay Fallimar, I'm in the process of setting up a Paypal account. Perhaps I could use it for other things in the future... like you guys giving me money or something.
Today's accomplishment:
I started and finished my "ITG Daninintei Project". What this is is a ranking of songs by "calculated" difficulty. http://superwailingbonus.com/stuff/itgd aninintei1.html
The "Dan/Kyu" system used in IIDX is borrowed from Karate and Judo (which is also used in the game Go), where there are 7 Class rankings, from 7th to 1st, followed by 10 "Degrees" (of black belt). Traditionally, the 10th Dan is reserved for a single individual, but for practical purposes, it represents the highest attainable level.
How this works: Song name / Difficulty / Level / "Score" / Rank
Score is a relative value, and doesn't mean anything outside of for ranking purposes. Score is calculated by certain values, depending on the step:
1.4 for adjacent steps
2.0 for steps that cross the center
3.0 for single hands
1.1 for same-pair jumps (LR -> LR)
3.0 for opposite-pair jumps (LR->UD)
2.0 for same+adjacent jumps (LR->LD)
2.5 for same+cross jumps- one step crosses the center (LU->LD)
5.5 for two simultaneous arrows that occur during one hold
6.0 for two sim. arrows during two holds
6.5 for ANY slam (three simultanous arrows)
7.0 for ANY quad (all four arrows)
*All of these figures are multiplied by a "speed" factor of 1+exp(-3*t*t) where "t" is the number of seconds since the previous step(s). This is better than my previous attemps, because this adjustment factor maxes out at x2, in case there's a real quick gallop- the system will treat it as a near-jump.
Fun facts:
~"stamina" is not factored into these rankings at all. I could make ending steps weigh more than beginning steps, but I don't think that'd be very useful.
~This algorithm does not consider ANY song gimmicks such as mines, tempo changes, or mod usage (hi-speed, C-mod, mini, etc.), since in the end, it all comes down to how well you EXECUTE the pattern.
I can provide (somewhat commented) C++ code if anyone wants to see the clusterfuck that is my step-evaluating algorithm.
How the ranking works: Wherever you see a "dan" or "kyu" in the right column, that rank extends across and down. There are seven 10th Dan songs, eight 9th Dan songs, nine 8th Dan songs, ten 7th, and so on.
Comments:
~I believe I am missing three songs. I have 69 unique songs, including all of Liquid Moon. There are 72 songs in ITG1 AC, including Training, but not including Liquid Moon.
~Some songs may seem out of place if they have a "bipolar" stepchart. Some low-rated songs have a high rank due to a nasty ending (y helo thar Mythology), and some high-rated songs rank low because they are rather steady the entire time.
After noticing some of the seemingly out-of-place songs, (like Mythology, a 10) way up top, I played them on my home version, and found out what my program saw in them. Nasty death runs or steady streaming... I'm waiting for feedback from other players to refine the rankings, but I think it's pretty darn good as-is.
plaguefox, what do you think of all this nonsense?
Finally, I played some IIDX tonight. Long time no 6th Style. I haven't played in days, but I went: AA 20, November[a], AA V[7] Mirror, and then this:
AA @ R5 Another!
Here's how I did the roll:

And here's how I did the rest of the song.

And then I Easy-Cleared G2[a]. DAMN. I'm on a... ROLL!
Projects for tomorrow: put shit on http://superwailingbonus.com, since I haven't done anything to it in almost two weeks. I'm trying! Honest!

I require one of those badge-hats, Chris. I have some cool shit to put in it. Con badge is just The Beginning. What about another ahiseven hat, or "COOTER" or "ASS" (asshat!), or MIKE JONES (I still don't know what it means), "DUMP TRUCK", "I'D RATHER BE PLAYING ITG", "SCREAM SQUAD", "10/6", "MAAATLOCK", or "UCK". The UCK hat will be used to take an "almost" picture, in which I'm forming an "F" with my lips. "I AAA'ED 冥 ANOTHER14 AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS STUPID HAT". I have a shitload of notecards and black markers waiting to get raped.
