My Christmas present to myself this year was The Art Of Brian Bolland, an absolutely gorgeous (and HUGE) treasury of my favourite 2000ad artist's work. Bolland is one of the few comic artists from that era whose stuff I enjoy now just as much as I did when I was in my teens; his midnight-black inking and cast of grotesques give me a shiver I recognise as the same one that passed through me when I first saw Judge Death or the Cursed Earth muties. And who could forget the team-up of the nineties, when he and Alan Moore gave us that awful, heartbreaking Joker origin story 'The Killing Joke' (Bolland had a bad time on that one, but it's certainly my all-time favourite Batman story).

Really, if you remember being a big 2000AD fan, then Bolland was probably a major reason. Treat yourself to this book.
