They have finally invented a device that records dreams. First test subject--Johnny Depp.

I'll say! I'm torn between wanting to kiss them and needing to spray them with something to keep them away!

They kind of found some weird world in between Mott the Hoople and Kraftwerk. Did you check out the second part? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuFAPcis33k&mode=related&search=

Well that was surreal...

I'm sad to see Depp is going down the fake British accent road so well paved by Madonna.

So much of Japanese TV is like this. You don't need to know the language because a lot of it speaks for itself.

This is a clip from a very popoular show called Pankun & James. Pankun's the chimp and James is the bulldog.

My already considerable respect for Johnny Depp has just increased.

Aside from one brief moment of hysterical, possibly terrified giggling, which he manages to suppress rather admirably, he holds it together throughout. You can tell he's a dad, because you can see him attempt to focus on the innocence of the kids, even when they do that hyperactive 'my name is...' routine, like the Billie Barry kids on crystal meth.

Other guests I'd like to see run this particular gauntlet: Alec Baldwin, Ryan Tubridy, Michael Jackson. Anyone?

Graham,

Hello there, let me first apologise that this isn't related to your post. I've been enjoying your blog for a while now (without posting any comments) and I like your thoughts on comedy as well as your work itself. I'm a writer myself and I've just been commissioned to write a sitcom for BBC2 that will be on in the early part of next year.

To cut a long story short there are not a lot of people that I know who I could ask for an opinion on my scripts before they get out into the big bad world so I thought I'd ask some people whose work I admire if they would have any interest at all in having a look at a script or two and giving me some feedback. It goes without saying that I would be eternally grateful.

I do of course understand that this is not the most exciting thing someone could ask you to do so if it's not something you'd want to or even would have time to do then no worries.

Iain.

Well, script consulting is something I do a lot, but I'm afraid I do charge a fee (eternal gratitude is nice, but baby needs shoes!). If you contact my agent Natascha Galloway at PFD, she can take you through the details.

Graham,

Thanks very much for replying. I'll contact your agent and find out if I can afford you. I'd be curious to know, if you feel like telling me, how many different opinions, if any, you like to have on a script before you finalise writing it.

Cheers.

(I promise to never again post an off topic comment.)

Iain.

The best opinion you can get is from Future You. Present You writes the script, you see, and has a lot of ego and pride tied up with it, and it makes it hard to see how good the script actually is. So the best thing Present You can do is to put the script in a drawer for--ooh, let's say....a month and a half (at least) for Future You to read.

Future You will realise quite quickly that the entire first half doesn't work and should be jettisoned immediately to save the quite good second half (or vice versa). Future You will read some sections and actually not have a clue what Present You was on about.

If you don't have the time to get Future You involved, then give it to about six friends. If more than three of them thinks it needs work, then it needs work. If everybody says "Yeah, great! Brilliant stuff!" then you've either written a perfect first draft (unlikely, to say the least), or it really, really stinks and they can't be bothered getting into all the reasons why.

Here in the States they're billing it as "brought to you by the creators of "Two and a Half Men!"

Thanks for the warning.
