Oh, well! That's Davina!

Last night on Big Brother, she said of a contestant "Her friends think she looks like Peter Kay, which I think is a bit mean."

If it's mean, why repeat it in front of millions of viewers?

Bah. Davina, ringmaster to the BB circus. Pandering to the voyeuristic masses. If there's anything more meaningless going on on British TV, I'd like to see it.

Apart from all the other examples you cite here, obviously.

is this to say you watched it, though?

In response to the question that could be asked, I've seen BB myself, but I left Northern Ireland in 2000 and so I've mostly avoided the horror. The US version of BB is basically non-existent, and most reality shows leave me cold, with one new exception, On The Lot, which is a movie-making version of Pop Idol and it's ilk - yet it's strangely compelling.

You watch BB. Why? It does nothing but exploit both the simpletons that appear on it in the mistaken hope that they will somehow become important, and also exploit the simpletons that support the media in thinking that they are important.

I suppose you have to keep your finger on the pulse, but this parrot died a long time ago.

You can dislike something without standing in a corner with your back to the television, fingers stuck in your ears and saying 'Nyah, nyah, nyah, I can't HEAR you!' as loudly as you can. In fact, if you watch the show (you won't be judged, at least not by me), please send in your examples of this kind of Orwellian Davina doublespeak, where she professes to be on the side of the contestant but then says something hollow, mean and underhanded. It's an important part of the Funography puzzle.

Hmmm. I'm not sure I want to be sucked in to the vortex, but any 'double standard' speak I hear of I'll report.

What I want to know is, how do you keep your finger on a parrot's pulse?

"Her friends think she looks like Peter Kay, which I think is a bit mean."
If only the contestant had turned around and said, “Davina, Charlie Brooker once said you look like manimal halfway through a crow transformation. I also think that was quite mean.”

*not sure why I remember Charlie Brooker saying this, but your post prompted it to resurface in my memory.
